  1. 660 or 670 is quite fine, infact it's quite excellent for some1 like me who was expecting 500mill WW but I understand it's disappointing for some who wanted the film to hit the 700 landmark or people like robinov who expected the movie to do a billion + (quite idiotic to be honest). Ultimately the film has done good money, sure it could've done more (one can say that about any movie) but the final tally is impressive non the less.
  2. The lizard as a character isn't lame just the way they handled hiim in the film left much to be desired. To be honest I always thought spidy's rogues gallery is quite lame in general (I know I know, Im alone on this) with the exception of doc oc and venom ofcourse. Hope they do a good electro (and thank god they didn't go with his original costume!)
  3. Amazing spidy was unfairly treated due to the whole "way too soon" factor, but personally I think ASM was superior to both MOS and BB as an origin film. The only prob I have with the film is the lizard otherwise it could've been one of the best superhero movies ever (it certainly is the best spidy movie thus far IMO). As for competition, I have to give to MOS with MU performing to its high expected standards and WWZ way over performing, that is not to say that ASM did have tons of competition..
  4. ASM will be the highest grossing reboot for a very long time and spidy has proven once again that he's Amazing but MOS has done just fine, being the 2nd highest grossing reboot WW and the highest grossing reboot domestically
  5. I think it has to do with the quasi spider-man japanese show that aired many decades ago. As for superman, well he's fairly popular in Japan, SR did a decent 11 million in 2006 and I think MOS can do about that much or abit more (15 million max). The prob is the very late release date so it's very hard to predict the japanese market.
  6. 820 and no one will ever forget that, that film really took superhero films to the next stage.
  7. Even the greatest marketing campaigns wouldn't result in a june opening record if superman isn't popular like you're suggesting MOS outperformed BB by a mile, as it did IM2 (I won't mention IM1 because at the time IM wasn't big and the film it self was a breakout success for a then unknown character). Hey my prediction for this film was 500-520 WW (based on SR's performance and the general performances of reboots). And don't get confused, WB are using superman to bring batman to life not the other way around, you think any one is gonna give a shit about a batman reboot this soon after nolan's films, dream on! WF stands to benefit both characters considerably and it makes sense if WB wants to compete with starwars, avengers, finding nemo2, bond and pirates in a very busy 2015. Beautifully said Clavius! Couldn't have said it better if I tried.
  8. I disagree superman is plenty popular but the key here is how the character is portrayed, remember that the batman franchise was in decline after batman and robin and until the dark knight came out most people believed that batman's best days were behind him (since the very well received BB only did modest box office so people assumed that batman's box office appeal was gone) but the dark knight changed everything for the character and brought him back into prominence. Man of steel opened big in many markets telling us that the character still has wide appeal, as for the big drops well that tells us that it is the movie rather than the character that is divisive, I think if superman/batman is well made it will only mean big things for the character.
  9. I It doesn't matter if there were 1 or 10 or 20 superhero reboots, you compare with what you got, MOS performed very well when compared to other reboots, you can argue about that all you want but the figures are there and you guys keep saying about 3d and market expansions, but just because STID had 3d and expanded markets it didn't mean that the film performed significantly better than the previous film. Do you actually have figures to support the fact that admissions stayed the same? I could careless if the film was divisive in the foreign markets, the final tally of 350 million plus is excellent IMO considering this film is following SR. You're right there isn't anything magical about reboots, the reason why reboots don't break records is purely logical, the average joe doesn't look at film the way fanboys do, they hear remake and they think "again?!! why can't hollywood come up with something new" and are thus less inclined to be open minded, thats why Nolan's batman had a slow start and had to establish faith with the audiences. When it comes to numbers MOS is the 2nd most successful reboot and easily the most successful reboot domestically even if you want to bring in the adjusted numbers. In the end guys it's clear that we're going to disagree, we have different definitions of what it means for a movie to excellently, well, bad or being a flop, I think that MOS has been excellent and I am glad that my favorite character is back in the spot light and is making money, you guys can say this film is a disappointment or average and that's your opinion, you're certainly entitled to it. Also I can't wait for world's finest in 2015 and while I would've liked for another solo superman film, a superman/batman film can only raise the profile of the next solo superman film and allow the audiences to accept another batman reboot.
  10. i personally think that being the 2nd most successful reboot is something to be proud of, huge openings yet huge drops made this film's performance uneven but 650 million WW is excellent IMO (I thought it would do 500-520 mill). You can't be serious with those comparisons, TDK? TA? the original spiderman (not a reboot but the first big budget film about the iconic superhero). The more appropriate comparisons is with rebooted films like ASM, BB, incredible hulk, rise of planet of the apes, casino royale and ST09. Could the film have mad more? sure (thinking ASM at the very most) but if anyone was expecting this to make a billion, then they're delusional at the very least.
  11. MOS opened HUGE in mexico but the drop offs were also huge, still 21 million ain't too shabby! Brazil makes sense considering the late release date and more importantly the cancellation of the promotional tour due to the political troubles in the country, still the film is doing alright there (already over 11 million and might actually double SR's numbers of 17mill, which would be awesome!) Totally agree with you about Russia and Germany; the Russia numbers make sense since superman is such an american icon but I really don't understand why Germany hates the character so much, does he remind them on hilter's idea of the ubermitch?
  12. I said 500-520 million even if the film is spectacular! And the reason I said that because reboots just don't tend to break records.Consider this out of all the following reboots; casino royal, star trek 09, BB, ASM, incredible hulk, rise of planet of the apes only spiderman broke the 700 mill mark and thats due to the brand's popularity internationally. Man of steel 630 mill and counting was quite a surprise to me since the film was good not great while casino royal was brilliant IMO yet it just missed the 600 mill mark while BB and star trek were universally acclaimed and neither were able to crack the 400 mark. Could MOS have done better? absolutely! if it was better received it would've likely broke the 700 mill mark but it's final tally of 650-660 mill is a true victory for a reboot coming on the heels of SR. This film is the highest grossing reboot domestically and the second highest grossing reboot WW.
  13. That was a foolish statement by robinov (who is out btw!), no one was expecting a reboot to do a billion and if they did then they have no buisiness predicting box office numbers He didn't beat superman, it wasn't even a fight considering the fact that superman wasn't intent on hurting the old fart, I remember that panel where superman gently taps batman and breaks 2 of his ribs despite of the heavy armor, and superman pleaded with bruce to stop. If superman wanted to fight properly he would've destroyed the washed up batman in seconds and thats despite the fact that he was weakened from the nuke and the kryptonite arrow by GA. It always amazes me how fan boys bitch about superman being too powerful yet those same fanboys argue that batman can beat superman, its non sense. Batman should stick to fighting clowns like joker and penguin or bronze tiger (who made batman his bitch when they met).
  14. Guys I've been meaning to ask, does any one have a clue on how much superman II made in international box office, I've never seen any international figures around.
  15. To be honest Sam, I think the neck snapping/city destroying superman in MOS might change that perception of him being an old school/traditional hero, hence why alot of people are iffy about this film IMO. Personally I don't think there will be a break out in Japan or Brazil (although MOS should do good biz overall) but then again with my "Spot on" predictions of 85-90 mill opening, 230-40 mill dom total and 500 mill WW, maybe I should just shut up and sit back and enjoy the show because this film has exceeded my expectations at every corner and proven that superman still has alot of fight left him.
  16. Sam, I think superman is fairly popular in Japan (Superman II is still top 10 superhero films of all time there!) so anything could happen but I think 15 mill is quite realistic, LOL true that! It's good luck for MOS that WHD and TLR turned out to be duds, MOS may get to 300 mill DOM after all!
  17. Its going head to head with the lone ranger in Brazil, which is bound to hurt the boxoffice there, I think doubling SR's take in Brazil (about 17 mill) is great IMO. As for Japan, yeah I am hoping for about 15 mill (SR did 11 mill there). All in all it looks like MOS could do more than 350 mill OS, which is pretty good.
  18. I'd say 55-56 mill total for MOS is likely and I would've been very happy with 50!....Go Superman!
  19. Still what up with Germany and superman? why the hate? I mean superman is quite popular in places like the UK, Spain and France so why not Germany? To be honest when I looked at SR's abysmal take (3.6mil) I knew MOS won't be a hit there but I expected Antje Trau's presence (even though she's not a household name in Germany) to increase MOS's box office power there considerably but it didn't; still MOS should be able to make 7 mill or so, thus doubling SR's take and I'm happy with that.
  20. No exasperation here my friend just a genuine thumbs up! I really like your numbers and if MOS manages 300 dom and 380 OS (double SR's OS take) then it would be a dream come true for me, but as you may have noticed by now I tend to lean towards the conservative side of things so I say 280 dom and 340 OS for an impressive 620 mill WW (impressive sum for any film reboot or not). As for the remaining markets (Jap and Brazil) well superman is actually quite popular in Japan where SR did 11 mill back in 2006, so I think Japan's numbers will mirror SK's with a solid opening but a strong drop maybe a 15-18 mill final. Brazil is hard to predict, the country is currently facing quite abit of political crisis (although it should be eased off with Brazil winning the confederations cup today, man what a game that was!!) not to mention that MOS is being released at same time as the lone ranger, which is bound to affect the box office considerably; still I say double SR's figures are doable (i.e. 17mill). Olive what's your prediction for MOS's final tally in china?
  21. Agreed, MOS really underperformed in important markets like Russia, Germany and Italy (although did considerably better than SR in all of them) and this needs to be looked into and remedied, I suppose I understand the Russia part since superman is such an american character but I really don't get the hate in Germany, I would love for our German posters to pitch in and give us their 2 cents. As for the use of Nolan's name well I have to respectfully disagree, studios have being using the "from the creators of..." tag line since the dawn of cinema, no indication was made that MOS is connected to Nolan's batman in anyway (aside from that Wayne enterprises blip on the setalite and that was more of an homage rather than a direct connection) while say Iron man III was advertised and perceived as a follow up to TA. Also you have to remember that Nolan wasn't just producer by name only, he was heavily involved in the story aspect of the film so I didn't feel that his name was abused at all.
  22. Sam you are such a ray of sunshine! Honestly! So what do you think MOS's WW tally will be when all said and done?
  23. 800 mill is ALOT of money! Only 4 superhero films managed that number (TA was a project years in the making and IM3 was it's perceived sequel while the dark knight was a landmark film and true rarity in cinema history) Fame and popularity don't always go hand in hand, while superman was is and will always be a very popular superhero, in the last 2 decades his fame has far surpassed his popularity simply because the various media interpretations (SR, smallville, L&C) just weren't up to scratch so while they kept him in the public eye, they didn't add anything to his appeal, But MOS is different, I saw first hand how this movie is transforming the general public's perceptions about the character especially when a friend of mine who loathes superman normally calls me and asks me if there any good superman shows of films I can recommend just because he's "kinda into" the character at the moment. So for all its criticism the film seems to appeal to a new generation of fans and that's a fact that we (older generation/purists) have to live with.
  24. Which would be excellent, seriously I was expecting a max of 520 mill WW; numbers like 650 and 700 million were a pipe dream. MOS has proven that superman's still got some gas in the tank and if they get a big star for lex and correct some of the glaring issues in MOS, I could see the sequel doing 800 mill +
  25. So guys judging from these numbers does MOS have a chance of a 55 mill total?
