  1. TASM is a fair comparison as it is a reboot, however it's a reboot for a massive WW franchise unlike MOS, which is a reboot of a maligned SR. TA and Iron man are different beasts and I don't think a comparison is fair. SR is the last superman film seen before MOS hence the comparison is fair and for me personally, doubling SR's OS take would be nothing short of spectacular.
  2. Great to hear! People here in NZ seem to be taking to the film, which makes me happy.
  3. True but I don't think that 20 mill cume in Oz is out of the question.
  4. Have to say those are very solid numbers for a reboot. MOS more than doubled SR's OW in Australia (20mill + cume is possible), it made way more in it's OW in Sweden than SR did in it's entire run and here in New Zealand the film is enjoying a big run, the film's OW is almost equal to SR's entire run and WOM is very positive (not to mention that all the 3 showing's that I went to were packed and was turned away one time!). I didn't think it was possible before but this film has a chance of doubling SR's OS number (i.e. 380 mill)
  5. Oh yeah ASM did great OS numbers (490 mill) which is not surprising even given the fact that its a reboot because spiderman is a very popular franchise overseas and ASM was reaping the good will of the 3 previous films (even if SM3 was a critical dud). Honestly I would be happy with 300 mill or over, which is very good for a reboot and hopefully if the sequel corrects the shortcomings of MOS, superman can start breaking records.
  6. I'm with Tower here, the most we can hope for is 20 million, which is double what SR did. I suspect about 15 mill final gross and that's not bad at all in my book. Kal I was one of the people who predicted a max of 520 mill WW for MOS and I am very happy that the film is on course to do more than that (maybe 600 mill), but as much as people like BKB and Firedeep underestimated this film you're doing the exact opposite and going way overboard with your predictions; honestly anything over 600 mill is a big victory for a reboot following a stagnant franchise.
  7. To be honest SR did 1.7mill total, so this opening is not bad at all considering that superman (understandably as an american icon) isn't that popular in Russia, and to be honest, superhero films aren't as big in Russia as they are else where.
  8. Who are the "folks" kal? As for trek 2, well it was a fantastic film and deserves all the success it receives (should've receive alot more than it did WW)
  9. So Olive you think it's likely that MOS will finish below 50 mill in china?
  10. Internationally it was thriving and more than made up for the domestic deficit.
  11. I don't agree with that, because based on that logic CA would've done as well as IM domestically but it barely made half of it. Both spiderman 1 and 3 had sweeping american flag shots and did just fine. MOS has done fantastic biz so far for a reboot of a stagnant franchise (unlike ASM which was a reboot of a thriving franchise, atleast commercially). If this film matches your guys' predictions of 350 mill + OS then that would be great.
  12. Like I said before several times I was expecting a 270-300 OS for MOS, but this film's opening weekend really surprised me (in a very good way!). I think doubling SR's take (191 mill) overseas would be an incredible victory and a 600 WW would also be an incredible victory (I thought 500-520 mill WW would be the max). Excel you really still think that MOS can do 300 domestic, the competition is only gonna get tougher in the coming weeks with WHD and the Heat next week and DM2 and lone ranger the week after. I am now hoping for a 2,3 multiplier for MOS with a final tally of about 280, which would be quite awesome!
  13. Guys what do you think is the ABSOLUTE FLOOR for OS number? 270 mill? 300 mill?
  14. Hope you're right bud. btw good luck for exams (you said those were coming soon).
  15. Sam do think MOS will cross 300 million OS overall? I would love for this film to make 600 mill+
  16. Guys what do these Italy and Germany numbers mean?
  17. so guys how much do you think MOS will finish it's SK with?
  18. DKR is a sequel to one of the best films of all time while MOS is a reboot of a maligned movie called superman returns, alittle perspective is needed here guys.
  19. Kal while I like your eternal optimism I think you need to start exercising abit of pragmatism, like Sam said 22mill in SK sounds very reasonable and I don't want to bring your hopes crashing down but 1 billion is out of the question (always has been), you have to remember that this is a reboot and while I have to say that MOS so far has exceeded all my expectations and then some we can't get TOO MUCH ahead of ourselves, just remember that doubling SR's OS take would be a HUGE victory for the franchise. Reboots (even the universally acclaimed ones) usually start off abit slow out of the gate, yet this reboot (despite it's mixed reception) has gone off ground running (or leaping or flying or what ever term you'd wanna use).
  20. Regarding Cavill I can totally understand where you're coming from Sam but the more I thought about it the more I realized that Henry was BRILLIANT. People tend to say that he didn't have much to say and that he was humorless and they'd be right but people tend to forget that the character it self was portrayed as an outsider who didn't want to stand out or say too much, a man who carried the burden of his father's death on his shoulders. But if you think of Cavill's key scenes, he showed a range of great emotions e.g. The restraint against that drunk truck driver, the sadness and anguish over Johnathan's death, the sheer joy of flying, the furiousity during the fight scenes and finally the shock during the final zod scene. Cavill reminded me that sometimes you need emotion as much as dialogue to shine (or maybe I'm seeing things that aren't there but I hope not).
  21. The sad face is because I don't approve of piracy but it's just impossible to go anywhere on the net without catching a ricochet of spoilers and we still have about 2 weeks before it comes out here in NZ. As for the film Sam well I approve of the 7-7.5/10 grade that many of the critics gave the film, it's a film that has all the great ingredients (great performances from EVERYONE, great ideas, great action and special effects) but the final assembly is clumsy. The good thing is that I finished it and thought to myself "I can't wait for the sequel" because the foundations have been laid for a follow up that can match TDK and I for one would like to see Goyer come back (he's a great ideas man but needs help with the execution of scenes and overall pacing). What about you Sam, what did you think of the film? infact have you seen the film yet?
