  1. At my last THG screening, judging from the audience reactions, it was mostly people who are unfamiliar with the story--i.e., not fans or THG's "typical audience". I suspect that many were people who went because THG is the event movie. In that respect, TA becoming the new event movie of 2012 could hurt.
  2. Wait, this means that THG might take 2nd place for Monday-Thursday...
  3. Too bad it didn't break 11M. But I'll take third place as a consolation prize.
  4. It's not a very funny prank. In any case, LGF is usually last to report actuals, so I knew that the number was probably a fake.

  6. Dude, haven't we established by now that THG's performance OS is very unlike its performance in North America?
  7. I expected that it wouldn't be like Potter/Twilight before it opened, and during opening, the strong non-midnight Friday and Saturday rising above non-midnight Friday further reinforced those expectations. And then... the second weekend hit, which wiped out my expectations. I've been in the process of rebuilding them ever since.
  8. LOL. So what would you do if Naya gets the role of Johanna in CF? She's publicly remarked that she wants the role...
  9. Next week, potentially, if THG has better holds than Pirates, 5YE, and TLO. The week after that seems unlikely, though. Even with better holds than TLAM, the gap is just too big to expect THG weekend to overtake it, so fourth will be more likely, behind TA/DS and TLAM. It will could remain in the top 5, though, which will probably help with its theatre retention.
  10. I think that's normal and expected for a kids' movie. E.g., Stooges vs. Cabin; Stooges consistently wins over Cabin by healthy margins each weekend even though their Fridays have been pretty close to each other.
  11. Oh, and less than $250K separates #2 from #5. Has there ever been this tight of a race before?
  12. LOL @ 4th week American Reunion losing to 7th week 21 Jump Street.
  13. So the official estimates have THG ahead of 5YE! Though, given its perfect track record of THG being more overestimated (or less underestimated) relative to its peers, THG will probably fall behind 5YE in the actuals...
  14. It managed sub-30 last weekend without an IMAX boost, and the drops have been softening each weekend. So what would it have been without the IMAX re-release? 26%? 27%? 28%?
  15. Doesn't look like IMAX is going to have a significant effect on THG. Went today at 4:45PM. 423-occupancy room. Only 20-30 people. (But it's also playing on two other regular screens at that theatre--3 screens in the 6th week.)
  16. I was in high school when the books first came out in the late 90's. Nobody in high school read it; it was something that middle schoolers or elementary schoolers read. So at the very least, they left the impression that they are for children, esp. given the ages of the characters in the first book.In any case, whether or not I am so crass as to judge a book that way is irrelevant; what is relevant is whether this is prevalent among older audiences.
  17. Well, it makes sense, I guess. I avoided Twilight because it appeared to be vapid. I avoided Potter because it's too young--lest we forget, it's a series of children's books. E.g., HP1-6 were all PG. But I got into THG because it has more adult appeal than HP and more depth and male appeal than Twilight.
  18. ...and it beat DH2 in the weekdays for three days straight. Leave it in the dust, not lookin' back!
