  1. Not sensing much of a break-out tbh. I was off on Kongzilla, but this kind of feels like a $90-105m dom grosser rn
  2. They shoot further away from release. I think F4 only starts shooting 11 months prior to release, for example
  3. April ‘24 might not be amazing for the box office, but it looks really great from a quality pov imo. Hopefully we got a breakout or two as well, but considering how dry the year has been so far outside of Dune - it’s pretty cool to finally have projects to look forward to
  4. This feels like an omen for a $90m opening for Mortal Kombat II….
  5. This could be good or terrible, but it sounds so conceptually interesting and audacious that I have no choice but to be extremely excited. I think it’s so fascinating to see that urban city planning & architecture is the lens that FFC is using to tell a story about the future of America, but I’m sure it’ll also be some metaphor for film-making as well haha (“what if the architect… represents… the film-maker 🤯)
  6. I was gonna make a joke about how Twisters appealing to middle america was ironic given its director, but then I remembered how Minari felt like one of the quintessential “American” movies of the last few years - and makes the fact that it got a Golden Globe nomination for best foreign picture even more, uh… strange haha
  7. Yeah, I was initially not very bullish on DP3 given the Shawn Levy of it all, but it’s pretty clear the buzz is there in a way where it just isn’t for a bulk of recent mcu stuff. $400m dom feels likely?
  8. Holland’s Romeo vs. Chalamet’s Prince Hal - Dawn of Twink Death
  9. Agreed, and sometimes the doom-posting feels so performative on here haha. Like there's some prize for who can be the biggest cynic
  10. Sounds really cool. Love the Hathaway resurgence we're having; thought she was insanely fun in Eileen just last year
  11. Idk, Godzilla ‘14 definitely felt like it was trying to build tension, but the whole enterprise just felt so inert. There was a sense of scale, but it was never coupled with a sense of dramatic urgency like Cloverfield or Minus One had. It felt like a lot of nicely composed images that never signified much, but I also find Edwards to be one of the most dramatically inert directors in Hollywood right now so maybe i’m biased lol
  12. He kind of just got lucky with a lot of these lol. That said, the stuff that Abdy & De Luca have been green-lighting recently has been nothing short of insanely exciting; really cool to see a major Hollywood studio green-light so many big, non-IP auteur vehicles lately. The sad undercurrent running through the whole thing is that I feel like a lot of this is just to get WB in good shape before the inevitable sale; the next WB CEO could just turn it into a re-run of the Tsujihara years where it's all shitty prequels no-one asked for haha
  13. If this hits 76% fresh, it will be the fourth Monsterverse movie with that exact score. Most consistent franchise in Hollywood?
  14. The acronyms had me going crazy for a second, haha
  15. Holy fuck, finding out Saawariya is based on a Dostoevsky changes everything hahaha
  16. Adored crime & punishment when I read it during my angst-ridden senior year of high school; interested to check it out again now that I no longer feel contempt for my fellow man. Need to read his other stuff eventually; saw a copy of “The Idiot” at a bookstore cafe the other day and it took all my willpower to not splurge lol
  17. I don’t re-read books often, but my second round with Moby Dick made it sky-rocket from merely something I appreciated a lot into one of the best things I’ve ever read. I think it helps that I’ve grown a lot in the years between each reading, but some of the passages are just seared into my brain. I think every recent graduate who starts working can relate to Ishmael’s eternal quest for purpose haha Also @lorddemaxus i’m about to start War & Peace next, so it feels incredibly serendipitous to see your post here lol
  18. The Sony deal doesn't include future Monsterverse or Dune movies; those will still be at WB
  19. Felt good about this one for a while. Thought Bullet Train was supremely lame, but the Gosling/Blunt duo here looked so much more fun than anything in the last 3 Leitch movies. Not as bullish as i was before w/ $70m, but I can see it hitting $55-60m OW pretty easily. May is pretty much empty until Furiosa, so I could see it getting some good legs too
