  1. The game is simple. Movies only. No foreign language. Predictions due at 5pm PST. Posts after 5pm will not be counted and edits after 5pm will lead to full disqualification. Rank each category and the one with the lowest total score wins. EXAMPLE. Director 1. Mad Max 2. Spotlight 3. Revenant 4. Carol 5. Martian Since Revenant won, you would get 3 points for that category. The goal is to get the least amount possible. The fun aspect of this game is to get inside of the minds of those who vote for the Golden Globes!!! There is no prize for winning. It is a small game (and last minute). I am willing to tally up all the scores and post the results but I wont be able to post on the computer until Monday. I will post my predictions and you can copy and paste and adjust to the ones you like. Best Picture - Drama 1. Moonlight 2. Manchester by the Sea 3. Lion 4. Hacksaw Ridge 5. 2. With Rogue One crumbling the way it has been, I fear next week Sing might take #1. If not, then surface at #1 for a few days.
  3. could weplease expand the category 'most disappointing box office run' from 5 to 10 nominees?? There is so much going on this year for this category and this is a box office forum after all!
  4. Just saw Lion today and I definitely think it will be in contention for a best picture award.
  5. Michelle Williams was really good but she was not even in Manchester by the Sea that much. Nicole Kidman was not in Lion that much and she was good, but I am not sure she will get in... I think it would be fair to put Viola Davis in the supporting actress category. I have seen all 3 of these movies so far. Not sure yet what to make of Hidden Figures. It seems the movie revolves around Octavia Spencer's character so i don't know why she would be here for supporting actress.. 7. i wonder if it is a California thing.... Passengers is always packed for 3d and 2d reserved seating. Everytime i sneak a peek, they are nearly sold out.
  8. THEATER ONLY: Shut In - 6,891,009 Incarnate - 4,799,774 Swiss Army Man - 4,210,454 Morgan - 3,915,251 The Disappointments Room - 2,433,251 Shin Godzilla - 1,918,403 Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk - 1,738,477 The Neon Demon - 1,333,124
  9. Down to 61. The Tuesday night preview crowd must have really loved it! I did not mind it, 8/10
  10. I just want to point out if Lion increases more than 5% today, it will have its highest single day yet since it expanded to 500 theaters XMAS day. Currently it is playing in 525 theaters and it was one of the few movies to increase on Thursday and still manage to have an over 40% increase Friday. I am watching The Man Who Knew Infinity and Dav Patel is in it. He is doing a good job and it has me thinking maybe he will get nominated for Lion to celebrate his body of work this year. (i have not seen Lion)
  11. Based on RTH's numbers... Rogue One - 18.2 (-14.3%) 15.6 (+16.7%) 18.2 = 52 Sing - 17 (-23.5%) 13 (+15.4%) 15 = 45 Passengers - 5.8 (-13.8%) 5.0 (+10%) 5.5 = 16.3 Moana - 4.3 (-23.3%) 3.3 (+3.0%) 3.4 = 10.0 Fences - 3.8 + 3.8 + 3.8 = 11.4 La La Land - 3.1 + 3.2 + 3.3 = 9.6 Assassin's - 3.0 (-20%) 2.4 (+25%) 3.0 = 8.4 Why Him? - 3.2 (-28.1%) 2.3 (+39.1%) - 3.2 = 8.7 Office XMAS??? COLLATERAL???
  12. 15.3 was XMAS EVE. that would be -16.0% from 18.2.. Then it would just have to jump up 19% to match 18.2 again on Sunday. = 51.7 = 52 weekend. We can only hope for a higher Friday number and good holds and increases.
  13. TFA fell 18% NYE Thursday, Rebounded 50% NYD Friday. 18% Rogue One drop, and a Sunday to match Friday should be fair. 18.2 14.9 18.2 = 51.3
  14. I have had my best year with going to the theater almost 100 times and watching less than 10 movies (for free). It has been along time since the ratio was greater than 10 to 1. I noticed in the Thursday numbers thread earlier today how members were remarking about how Cinema is dead and how legit movies are platform releases. Well, the Golden Globes are next week and I would love to be caught up with all of the movies to make the awards show funner. So how the hell am I going to get to all these movies without using piracy? And what is sad is that these are the movies that count on box office revenue more than franchise pictures that are just pretty much an investment with a 200M budget.
  15. Saw La La Land tonight for the first time. I liked it alot and i tried to dislike it as much as possible. I just do not want it to sweep all the awards!!! Emma Stone vs Natalie Portman for the oscar will be fun to watch though. As for the ending...I thought it was one of the best parts. This is my take on the ending....
  16. Underworld 5 bad reviews look promising for Rogue One #1 4 weekends in a row. Week #5 - Bye Bye Man, Monster Trucks, Sleepless Week #6 - Split, XXX 3
  17. MY GUESSES: Rogue One - 21 / 339 Sing - 17 / 92.5 Passengers - 5.5 / 35.5 Moana - 4.5 / 190 Fences - 4.5 / 16.3 Why Him - 4.0 / 19.5 Assassin's - 4.0 / 26.3 La La - 3.2 / 20.3 Collateral - 1.9 / 19.3 Office - 1.6 / 45.7 F Beasts - 1.5 / 217.4 Manchester - 1.2 / 22 Jackie - 0.6 / 4.8 Lion - 0.6 / 3.0 Arrival - 0.4 / 90.2 Dr. S - 0.30 / 229 Trolls - 0.25 / 149.15
