final weekend estimates from insidekino.de:
#1: A2 - 305k (-22%)
#2: ??? - 220k (-13%)
#3: PiB2 - 120k (-6%)
Plane and Otto on #4 and 5
- 3
-
With weather more rainy than snowy (and windy, too), it's really a movie weekend, especially afternoons ... ??? and PiB2 are having a very strong day. Concerned about Otto, though, at my cinema it's selling less seats than Banshees - obiously I was wrong about there being a demand ...

I hope (and guess) 2M will happen seeing that only 300k are leftleft (I just saw that it opened to 120k so it'll have a bigger 7th WE than its OW and a x14+ multipler!
In Austria even better, it should be close to 250k total after this weekend, and with school holidays starting today there's even a chance at 300k (especially since ??? isn't as popular here as it is in Germany)
-
early weekend estimates from insidekino.de:
#1: A2 - 300k (-24%, usually actuals are higher than estimates)
#2: ??? - 200k (-21%, fine)
#3: PiB2 - 125k (-2%, seriously?)
Plane and Otto on #4 and #5, while I didn't expect much from Plane, Otts's number are really disappointing.

According to imdb it's supposed to get a release in March.
ah, good to know - comes with my warmest recommendations, I even wrote a review on imdb
https://www.imdb.com/review/rw8845108
might be a bit difficult to understand in some places when you're not used to the dialect, but most of the movie should be easy to grasp for Germans.
-
btw, just saw "Der Fuchs", very strong movie imho (better than, say, last years awards contender "Corsage") and no wonder it's holding up so well; theater was pretty full for a weekday early evening. Don't know if it gets a release in Germany, though.

any idea where Avatar 2 is headed in Austria?
well, it's already >1mil and is having pretty the same drops as Germany, so 1,15-1,2mil would seem like the goal

super run (even better than in Germany) and yet, it won't reach Titanic's admissions (nearly 1,4mil) ... the most successful release in recent times was (back in 2001) Schuh des Manitu with nearly 2,1mil admissions. But it will top the Lord of the Rings movies; Fellowship was the most successful one, that had 1,07mil admissions in the end.

Nice overall weekend - Avatar 2 once more with a good hold, and a surprisingly big OW for Die drei ???, while other family releases stood their ground. Die Schule der magischen Tiere 2 even had an increase, that movie seems unsinkable! The only really bad number came from domestic comedy Caveman which didn't even meet the already low expectations.
In Austria, Die drei ??? came in lower (#3 behind Puss in Boots) and domestic biopic Der Fuchs had once more >10k admissions on #4, surprisingly good hold once more given the story; Caveman flopped even worse than in Germany. Avatar 2 won the weekend with numbers close to Germany and is now at >1mil admissions total, the first release to reach the "Diamond Ticket" since - drumroll - the first Avatar!
Next weekend: No really big releases once more but A Man Called Otto might see some success, thanks not only to Tom Hanks but also the target demo which seems a bit neglected, looking at this week's chart - such is clearly not the case for actioner Plane, this seems like an instant flop.

if estimates hold, that's excellent for the ???-Adaption ... I was hoping for something like a 150-200k max opening; with the numbers we're seeing now 1mil total (and a sequel) is easily possible. And also excellent numbers from Puss-in-Boots, beautiful hold once more against a strong opener.

Im afraid of All Quiet on the Western Front winning anything. People outside Germany could come to the bafflingly wrong conclusion that we germans can actually make good movies. While All Quiet is indeed a very good movie, it is in no way a true representation of german film culture. Understand please, that we SUCK at making movies despite All Quiet.
come on, it's not that bad there were quite a few German movies I enjoyed through the last years!

An ok weekend, but only two releases >100k … Avatar 2 continuing ist run to >10mil, Banshees of Inisherin with a fine PTA once more and the two bigger openers a bit behind expectations. Puss in Boots 2 is showing a lot of staying power! And, off the chart, domestic Biopic Rheingold has finally crossed 1mil.
In Austria, similar results (a bit better once more for most releases) with an additional domestic releases on #3, Der Fuchs had an excellent hold from OW (nearly flat), nice! So, three releases >10k. Avatar 2 is already >900k admissions here.
Next weekend: Two medium-sized domestic openers: one more children's book adaption, Die drei ??? - Erbe des Drachens and comedy Caveman. In the US, the series is called The Three Investigators, it's been published in German since 1968 - so running for 55 years now, which means real popular I guess, but it's unsure how this will translate to BO success - anything above 750k total would be fine and warrant a sequel I'd say. Caveman - adapted once more from a popular play - should have the bigger OW but will probably fade faster.

-
no big changes in latest estimates from indidekino.de, only Shotgun Wedding is getting a bit stronger with each day.
- 2
-
Babylon and Shotgun Wedding both opening around 60k ... as mentioned, presales didn't look good but i was hoping for something much closer to 6 digits for both of them.
Puss in Boots 2 is really showing a lot of power after the lukewarm OW!
And Avatar 2 now in "normal" mode ... I was surprised by the good holds until now since it seemed to me it had much less rewatch potential than the first one. None of the people I know has plans to see it a 2nd time in theaters (and my wife watched the first one 8x ...), the general consensus seems to be that it's quite spectacular but the story not as involving and gripping as the first one's.

Wow, really nice weekend once more with fine drops, now that holidays are over. Avatar 2 crossed 7mil admissions (and 100mil €) with ease and I'd say 10mil are pretty safe and 11mil total totally possible. Also beautiful drop for Puss in Boots 2, and excellent opening for M3gan (given that evening screens are rare); dito Operation Fortune is doing fine, weekend 2 about as big as The Gentlemen's OW. Further down the chart, Black Panther 2 has finally crossed 1,5mil total, ok result but not as high as hoped for.
In Austria, similar results (the Top 3 even a lot better) with a domestic #4; arthouse biopic Der Fuchs managed about 15k admissions - that's a pretty astonishing number.
Next weekend: Two interesting releases, Shotgun Wedding and Babylon - at least one of them could make the Top3 though presales don't look too promising for both (Babylon a bit better atm but the other one has more walk-in potential I guess).

yep, atm I'd say 1,3mil total are the ambitious goal for Avatar2 in Austria, and 11mil in Germany (10mil would mean much worse holds than we've seen ... in fact, every weekend, it did a little or a lot better than estimates!

740k for the weekend according to Mark_G; that's the 3rd best 5th weekend ever - and PiB2 and M3gan good, too!

Good holds, especially for family releases, but weak openers (with the possible exception of Korean thriller Heojil Kyolshim which had the best PTA among openers). Avatar 2 continues its run to 10mil total. But the story this weekend were family movies: With school holidays now approaching (or already in power), Die Schule der magischen Tiere 2 might leg it to 3mil, unbelievable! Die drei ??? is also already a big success, a total somewhere around 1,5mil seems doable and if WOM catches on, maybe more. And Puss in Boots 2 is already a lock for 2mil total but should end with a total well over that number!
In Austria, Avatar 2 was in front with similar numbers; Puss #2 with nearly 20k - the "Golden Ticket" for 300k total is locked; Die drei ??? on #3 also with a healthy increase but not on Germany's level. Both "big" openers did better in Austria, we had 5 releases >10k admissions! And #6, domestic hit Der Fuchs, not far behind that number - Austria continues to outperform Germany.
Next weekend: Well, finally a really interesting weekend with a lot of potential 6-digit-weekends:
- there's the re-release of Titanic
- there's the 3rd Magic Mike movie
- there's Knock at the Cabin
- and an additional family CGI movie, Tha Amazing Maurice
Which means screens are at a premium this week, but generally, business should see a nice uptick. I guess Avatar2 will stay on top, and probably Die drei ??? on #2, but behind that, we'll see a lot of change in next week's chart!
