New kids CGI Miraculous had an OK start under these conditions and that's it. Next weekend: Since summer is here to stay, don't expect any miracles … of course, Mission Impossible 7.1 should win the weekend but it will be a deflated start once more - like with Indy, I'd be surprised if it can hit a 500k OW (Thu-Sun).
  2. and let's not forget Mission Impossible 7, opening today in Austria and of course #1 but I have to say, this doesn't look very blockbustery either - nowhere even close to a sellout situation.
  3. with the good opening of Lady Bug/Catnoir and fine weather that was to be expected I think; might be bounce back with rainier weather again. Obviously still awful for a Pixar movie but that has been the trend for a few years now ...
  4. first weekend estimates from insidekino.de: #1: Miraculous - LadybugCatNoir: 250k total (I guess 200k for the weekend) #2: Indiana Jones 5 - 180k #3: Insidious -Red Door - 120k
  5. yep, let's see ... and Saturday as OD is strange indeed, why not go all the way but halfway trough the WE?!

Elemental had a fine increase and is now at a total it should have had past OW … sigh. The same goes for No Hard Feelings. The Flash managed a 37% drop on such a weekend, incredibly bad. In Austria, a similar OW for Indy, but Elemental was much stronger than in Germany and was in fact #1 for the weekend (by admissions)! Next weekend: I don't know about Germany but Mission Impossible 7 is opening on Saturday in Austria and should win the weekend (don't know if those numbers will be counted for that weekend or the one after which was the original OW …). Other releases: Miraculous: Ladybug & Cat Noir for the kids (previews went well, will put quite a dent in other family releases), Love Again and Insidious: The Red Door (should do ok, no other horror in theaters atm). opening in Germany: Griechenland, an Austrian blockbuster from earlier this year which might see some success in southern Germany. With all those new releases, Indy is in for a steep drop I fear …
  7. btw, Austria might see some better numbers, weather is definitely rainy this weekend in wide parts of our country - parts of Germany might also be less outdoorsy this weekend! Let's hope for an uptick in estimates ...
  8. First estimates for Germany's weekend from insidekino.de: #1: Indiana Jones 5 - 375k (no flop but far from a hit) #2: Elemental - 150k (-11%, at least a good hold) #3: No Hard Feelings - 75k (-1%?! wtf ...)

Austria didn't fare much better, everything a little higher as usual but not by much - nearly identical numbers for the Top5. Next weekend:One big opener, the 5th Indiana Jones movie. #1 will be no problem going by presales but I'd be surprised if it cracked a 500k OW. At least, there will be an uptick in general business …
  10. as an aside, among today's evening shows at my cinemy, the bestselling one is ... GotG3. really poor performance for all other ones if an 8 week old release is outselling them
  11. First estimates for Germany's weekend from insidekino.de and there's indeed a 6-digit-OW: #1: Elemental - 145k incl. previews #2: No Hard Feelings - 95k #3: Spider-Verse 62k overall one more poor weekend

Horrible weekend, only 10 releases >10k admissions and none in the 6-digits range. Wes Anderson getting the highest PTA with Asteroid City is not a sign of Germany's good taste in movies but of empty seats everywhere else. Austria is not faring much better atm. The Flash is maybe not an outright flop but severely underperforming … Next weekend: Elemental and No Hard Feelings are the big openers but the times when any new Pixar movie was an instant hit are long over, and I don't see the romcom doing much better … against summer weather, expect another disaster weekend but hopefully at least one of the openers can do a 6-digits OW.
  13. back from 3 weeks of holiday traveling and it seems I haven't missed any outstanding BO events ... 🙁
  14. wow, Mermaid missing #1 despite the steep drop for F&F, that's a negative surprise ...

GotG3 had an astonishing hold, as did the Mario Bros. movie - and domestic arthouse release Lehrerzimmer went up again - is it developing into a sleeper hit? In Austria, business was better once again; F&F10 with about 100k total until Sunday is a lock for 200k total and 250k are possible. GotG3 and Mario were on Germany's level but Asterix opened stronger too (5-digit OW, would correspond to about 100k in Germany). Since the markets are so similar, there's the question if Germany marketing hasn't failed a bit for the french franchise. And for some unknown reason, Book Club 2 is doing much much better in Austria than in Germany (still moderate numbers but in Germany it's an outright flop), Next weekend: One big opener and that's Disney's Arielle - presales aren' exactly overwhelming but with family releases, that's often the case, #1 should be easily possible, let's hope for a total >2mil!
  17. First estimates from insidekino.de for Germany's weekend: #1: F&F10 - 600k 5-day (a bit lower than I expected) #2: GotG3 - 250k (-24%, that would be an excellent hold against F&F) #3: Mario - 140k (-8%) #4: Asterix - 90k 5-day (a bit better than I expected) Keep in mind that Thursday was a holiday in Austria and Germany, so probably really strong mid-week-numbers; however Sat+Sun might fall off with weather turning friendlier in many regions.

Overall a boring and bad weekend … In Austria, business was better; Guardians >40k for the 3-day WE, and Book Club 2 with a nearly 10k OW which means about tripling Germany's numbers! The Super Mario Bros. Movie had a strong weekend too and is now >600k admissions, the Platinum Ticket. Congratulations! Next weekend: Two big openers - Fast & Furious 10 should win the weekend - presales look ok, something like a 600-700k OW would be fine. And the latest Asterix movie (Astérix et Obélix : L'Empire du milieu) should attract some business though I'm not sure it can make the Top3. (In France, it did ok, but in German-speaking markets, the franchise showed a pretty steep decline - a six-digit-OW seems impossible by now - presales are looking poor).
  19. 8/10, A- enjoyable movie, maybe a bit long, but overall very nice and entertaining, even if some plot elements and gags seemed already routine. I didn't like the music as much as in the earler GotG movies, but it was still one of the strengths. And I thought the Evolutionary got shortchanged (same as the Skrulls a few years earlier) - waste of a great villain.

The movie hit hardest among leftovers was D&D (as was to be expected). In Austria, similar numbers but averall a bit higher, GotG3 was at about 65k after Sunday, Mario came in stronger too with >30k and already about 575k total by now. Next weekend: No big releases, so the Top2 should be safe. I don't know about Germany but in Austria, the latest Asterix movie gets a pre-opening on Sat+Sun; presales look poor though so probably no big impact on other releases.
  21. final estimates from insidekino.de: GotG3 - 525k Mario - 250k Evil - 60k Wick - 35k So, GotG3 a little better but overall worse
  22. estimates for the top4 from insidekino.de #1: GotG3: 500k (that's within expectations but really a big step down from GotG2, let's hope for better legs #2: Mario Bros. - 300k (-31%, ok hold) #3: EvilDeadRise - 70k (-46%, ugh) #4: JW4 - 50k (-34%) Depending on the weather, we might get only 3 releases >50k, so overall a dull weekend ... GotG3 is opening about as high as the first one, but since sequels tend to have shorter legs, it might end up with the worst total of the three.

Evil Dead Rise opened within expectations, but seemed a little frontloaded. And Mario Bros. continued its dominance, will probably miss 6mil total but 5,5 are looking good. In Austria, similar numbers for the Top3 (Mario Bros. and Evil Dead even stronger); but The Whale opened much higher (>6k for the 3day weekend compared to Germany's 30k for the 4dayWE). Mario Bros. crossed 500k total on Sat and is on its way to well beyond 600k total, 700k are still possible. Next weekend: The big opener will be Guardians of the Galaxy 3, it should become #1 but the question is if it can reach GotG2 (750k OW but a crappy multiplier) - presales don't give that impression. While for the longest time, Marvel sequels always managed to increase, this trend was already broken and will be broken again, I fear - I'd say a 500k OW would be ok for the Guardians. No other big openers, so family films should see ok drops (weather conditions so-so).
