I can see this pulling Iron Man numbers if WoM is good enough.
I mean even the Avengers had a 50% drop with great WoM and Guardians is looking like it'll be the biggest crowd pleaser of the summer.
I thought that back when I was predicting a 75m OW for Guardians (I think I gave it 3 weeks on top).I could see 98m49m (50% drop) and wins the weekend30.4m (38% drop, on par with Iron Man 3) wins22.4m (27% drop, little comp and possible win)20.5m (Labor day weekend, can win with that number)14.3m (Only green inferno is released, depending on its opening could win with that)Given the right circumstances it could win 6 weekends.
I wouldn't say DOFP opening in the 90s was a disappointment, that's a big increase over Wolverine and First Class and reinvigorated the franchise with life. Some people were just over predicting it.
1.Cap wasn't summer2.Maleficent over performed and DOFP performed very well but that doesn't change the fact they capped at 230m. Hardly a saturated market
Yeah, as much as I would have liked to see some sailor mouthed characters in Quill and Rocket (I can see why Gamora, Groot, and Draxx wouldn't), I realize why they can't. They put in some minor swearing and that worked (especially Pratt's uncensored flip off) and that was fine with me. I don't want them to make an R rated Guardians movie because I want Guardians to pull in that family cash.
I'll admit I didn't know what to expect from guardian's box office at first, I always predicted around 180-240m range total, and predicted a 75m opening hoping for mid 80s, so it's definitely surpassing box office expectations. But I will say as each blockbuster this summer underperformed I was thinking (but not certain) that GOTG could be the breakout Pirates/transformers and win the summer. We still need to see how it performs next week before we know if it can win the summer or not but it's definitely possible if it can hold well.
I went in with high expectations personally and it surpassed them. It may not for everyone, but as a sci-fi geek it was everything I wanted from this movie.I left the theater wanting to buy tickets to the next showing, in my opinion that's what it takes to be an A+ blockbuster, the only other movie this year that did that for me was the LEGO Movie.I gave Snowpiercer and Boyhood both A+s as well but for different reasons.
No Wired is correct, it's hilarious the whole way through and a gem blockbuster that actually entertains you.Reminds me of watching Star Trek 09, or The Avengers, or Pirates 1, or even Star Wars. Fantastic movie, it's the reason you go to the theaters.
Besides, I'd rather it be one of the highest grossing 90m openers than one of the lowest grossing 100m openers (although getting above Trans4mers wouldn't be to hard on that).

This is probably my new favorite Marvel movie, and it's the first movie this year I intend to see twice in the theater (the only other Marvel movie I saw more than once was The Avengers), everything in it worked and the team was better than The Avengers. I had no issues with it (and when I do find flaws they will be rendered unimportant because it's that enjoyable of a movie) A+
Outside of Nolan's Batman, and the first two superman and batman movies, DC has no good movies whereas MCU alone is fantasticly consistent in quality (add the outsourced movies and not as much but still good).Overall, Marvel really does make the better movies, especially now that Nolan is done with Batman.
