  1. Since Top Gun was filmed in IMAX it automatically takes priority over anything else. This exact situation happened with Valerian and Dunkirk in July 2017. Valerian lost the screens as soon as Nolan announced that date. Besson even complained about that on the press circuit
  2. But then WW84 would only get a week before Top Gun will have to take over...again, Top Gun was also actually filmed in IMAX.
  3. Top Gun moving to Christmas just blocked this from moving to December because this was 'filmed in IMAX', and so was Bond which is 4 weeks before.
  4. Which, according to the guy running Hans Zimmer's website and is a reliable source for any info on him or other RCP composers, he did.
  5. It's all a question of how much do they need the cashflow from NTTD and how soon, given the film's already been through 3 release date changes now.
  6. They wield a lot of power (particularly over marketing)...but basically the money is MGM's - according to Variety they financed the film entirely, as opposed to previous Craig films where Sony co-financed in exchange for global distribution. So final say is really with them. Plus EON might not mind so much to finally have the film out there instead of delaying it a whole year...
  7. Given MGM has basically nothing else apart from Bond, they may have no choice but to VOD if theatres don't reopen in November. Even Universal, given how they're leading the charge on PVOD at the moment, might be okay with this. Only people who might not be are EON/the producers.
  8. Some countries like Australia won't be doing PVOD and pushing it to the fall...so piracy even more of a factor there. But maybe it came down to it being a family title, they'll be more cautious about returning to theatres after the virus
  9. Yup. It's way more about Dom/Europe but also trying to find a comfortable space in the calendar. You don't just move to the first available date either, you choose a comfortable one. Hence - November for Bond or April for this, as far away as it is. And of course, actual space in the calendar.
  10. Or someone has to be brave enough to drop a major title onto VOD. Of course the risk here is pissing off major chains...
  11. How likely is that to happen though if they've already delivered the final 2D and Dolby Vision masters and are working through the home video release? If this decision to delay came even two or three weeks earlier then sure. But now between it having happened so close - days away - from final delivery and Cary's and others' other projects they're no doubt booked into following Bond, and not to mention additional $$$ to do any major production changes beyond the 50m they'll already write off P&A wise, I would honestly be shocked if there's any more tinkering done between now and November. Such a late move of a film is really quite unprecedented...
  12. Fukunaga just confirmed on his Instagram that the film is now done. Only things left to go are home media masters and the 3D version.
  13. Posted this on Twitter, some speculation to throw out there - could we see an autumn festival run happen? First off, the film - for once, for a major blockbuster - should actually be fully done to make that happen. Unlike previous Bonds with very very tight post production schedules. Secondly, the success of A Star is Born & Joker on the circuit - particularly the latter - surely has opened doors to other studio blockbusters to use that as a launchpad. While those were admittedly more awards-positioned in a way Bond may not be, we did have Knives Out... And with Bond being a more 'prestige' blockbuster franchise, festival ambitions - doesn't have to be competition - would fit right in. Can also take place of a more conventional press/premiere tour partly, is doing festivals more or less expensive than bespoke premieres? From a fan POV, of course the possibility of seeing the film as early as late August/early September is exciting after the gut punch of a delay. Bond isn't nearly on the Marvel/Star Wars level of spoiler paranoia and bad actor leak risks, not nearly as much a concern. Like, no one leaked out whodunnit in Knives Out after TIFF, right? Or at least hasn't spammed the film's hashtags with it. In any case such a move, while unprecedented (as this whole situation is) could be a smart way to build *fresh* word of mouth back up, I would argue. After months upon months of delays, word of mouth from people actually seeing the film leading into it finally coming out, would be quite a thing. But, will these autumn festivals even go ahead with the virus situation? And more importantly, this would require a ton of confidence in the film being positively received. Months of mixed or negative reviews leading to release would be hard to overcome image wise, though Joker has showed to a certain extent that it doesn't matter as much? Possible timeline: - Venice world premiere: Sept 2-12 - TIFF North America/IMAX premiere: Sept 10-20 - LFF - Surprise Film slot as to not cannibalise Royal Albert Hall premiere? Oct 7-18 And close off with the usual RAH premiere in early November.
  14. Someone on the Bond forums is saying according to a note their friend working at a chain received part of the reason to move was the storyline being potentially insensitive, which makes sense...
  15. Here's an interesting possibility...bringing it forward to next weekend as opposed to pushing back https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-8071965/James-Bond-film-No-Time-Die-released-three-weeks-EARLY-coronavirus.html
  16. Basically official confirmation - the final cut will feature 30 mins of IMAX footage. https://imaxmelbourne.com.au/movie/no-time-to-die This is on par with The Dark Knight..
  17. Regal is also doing the marathons https://www.regmovies.com/movies/no-time-to-die-marathon/ho00010568#/
