  1. Not that I'm complaining about the idea of GotG coming out on top this weekend... but where is this prediction coming from?  IIS had higher Friday numbers... do they really think it's that front loaded and will drop so much or is there something else I'm missing?

Also... just wow.  I expected SC2 to tank, but those numbers are just sad.

YA movies tend to be more frontloaded than Marvel's ones that tend to increase a lot on saturday.

  4. Friday Update #2: Sources tell BoxOffice that If I Stay is pacing for an opening day around $5 million. If that holds, an opening weekend in the $13-14 million range is likely.

Meanwhile, When the Game Stands Tall is performing on par with expectations around a $3.5 million Friday. That would likely get the film over $10 million for the weekend.

The news isn't improving for Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. After alarmingly low Thursday night numbers, sources report that the sequel may net around $4 million today. If that holds, a sub-$10 million weekend remains very likely (possibly closer to $9 million).

  5. currently - 234

    15M weekend = 249

    6M weekdays = 255

    18M 4-day weekend = 273

Now maybe that 18M Labor Day weekend is a little too high, but I think the 15 and the 6 guesses are pretty reasonable.

300 is certainly still on the table though.

    I agree.

Bourne Ultimatum made $25M after Labor Day.

So if GOTG which had a bigger OW and bigger weeks can keep up with those projections above, it will have a shot at $300M

  6. Where does Guardians need to be DOM after September 1st, Labor Day, to still have an outside shot at $300M DOM?

    I think around $270 - $275M.

Bourne Legacy increases around $25M after that.

  7. It might even end as highest crossing of the year.... till some other movies gets released (Interstellar, Mockingjay, and Hobbit come in mind, some say Exodus too)

I think only Mockingjay will outgross it while Hobbit may finish under $250M as Interstellar passes $250M but finishhes around CATWS .

  8. This year was perfect for marvel/disney

They released 2 movies that 'should have been the weakest of marvel" but they made 2 hits of it.

I know they expected an increase for TWS but not that much.

With GOTG, most of the predictions were 180M DOM and It will do atleast 100M more

Last year they had IM3, Monsters University, TTDW and Frozen.  This year, they have CATWS, Maleficent and GOTG.

That's 7 movies released within 15 month, reaching each $600+M
