  1. From Disney's Hyperion page: http://www.disneyanimation.com/technology/innovations/hyperion The slider showing the differences between a 2 bounce and 9 bounce render for Baymax is astounding.
  2. The Transformers Cinematic Universe should only happen if GI Joe and Jem are in the same continuity. And, um... Doctor Who.
  3. So there was that discussion earlier about not believing that Ferguson could do those takedown moves. Did someone say that because the men she was fighting were bigger and stronger, it shouldn't have been possible? What she's doing isn't about strength or size, it's about physics. Real world example: When I first saw it, I wasn't quite sure how it worked. Like, the woman is just in mid-air without anything to leverage the throw, right? Except she does, her whole body and movement is the leverage. The man can't stop the movement even if he's bigger and stronger unless he wants to snap his neck.

  6. I think I've seen it twice. Once on IMAX, which was awesome, and once when it showed up on Netflix or something last year. If I rewatch anything, it'll probably be the Dubai sequence, but even then... it's just not the same without IMAX. *coughMMFRcough* I'd never have pegged you to really go hardcore for Hanna like that.

  8. Read the book recently and enjoyed it quite a bit. It seems pretty well suited for a movie, as the plot is not complex and it's a lot of external action, despite the delivery format. They could adapt it straight. Who knows if that's the case here, though. From the trailer it seems so. My two favorite bits are probably: and
  9. Domestically, at least, Denzel is super consistent. Pretty much every film he does is sold on his name. As far as Bullock, though, what's super impressive is that her Proposal/Blind Side year in 2009 happened after she was basically absent from the screen for two years. It was like she retired and then came back, bigger than ever. And then she disappeared and did it all over again in 2013, in almost exactly the same way.
  10. This one is great: Eric Heisserer @HIGHzurrer I really really don't like how some use the idea of pursuing art as an excuse to be sociopaths to everyone else. 11:06 AM - 28 Jul 2015 Related to that, I remember in a discussion on another forum many years ago which brought up the problems with the idea of the auteur. That there is something intrinsic about the person that should be lauded rather than the creative output. It seems especially pervasive in movies, where directors can get away with a LOT, but it's okay because the films they do are so great. There's a big difference between driving hard to get a strong performance or whatnot and just being a terrible person. I wonder if those sorts watch Whiplash and think "Yes! That is how you have to be to get a good performance."
  11. Yes, I know. Which points to more in favor of Avatar's legs, really. Its daily attendance was just absurd at that point.
  12. Even the massive 3D boost can't account for the discrepancy.
  13. YES! Continue my inability to make up any ground. I think I've been between 28th and 32nd place the entire game.
  14. If The Martian does even half of what Gravity did, it'll have to be considered a success.
