  1. Abigail, counted today for today, had 351 sold tickets. Up nice 41.5% since yesterday. Comps (all films counted on Thursday for Thursday): The Invitation (775k) had 218 sold tickets = 1.25M. M3gan (2.75M) had 782 = 1.25M. Prey for the Devil (660k) had 164 = 1.4M. Frankenstein (700k) had 276 = 900k. Candyman (1.9M) had 555 = 1.2M. The First Omen (725k) had 184 = 1.35M. The Pope's Exorcist (850k) had 257 = 1.15M. And Firestarter (375k) had 171 sold tickets = 750k. Average: 1.15M. Also exactly the same number as yesterday ;). PS: It had a quite good jump till today so I could imagine that the true Friday number went a little bit up (it were 3.15M in my theaters yesterday).
  2. The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, counted today for today, had 237 sold tickets (in 7 theaters). Up modest 17% since yesterday. Comps (all 3 films counted on Thursday of the release week for Thursday): Midway (925k from previews) had 300 sold tickets = 730k. 1917 (3.25M) had 879 sold tickets in 5 theaters (it had no shows in my AMCs in Texas and NY). Ungentlemanly Warfare has in the same 5 theaters 144 sold tickets = 550k. And Amsterdam (550k) had 289 sold tickets = 450k. Average: 575k (without EA shows). On the one hand that's a bit better than on Monday, OTOH the jump till today was really pretty small. So my guess would still be that it reaches high single digits.
  3. Not that bad IMO. I mean, I was also excited when I saw the trailer for Old and then the film was IMO only quite decent, but I'm a little more curious now.
  4. Once again numbers from yesterday: Abigail, counted yesterday for Friday, had 223 sold tickets. Up ok 32% since Tuesday. Comps (all films counted on Wednesday of the release week for Thursday): The Invitation (1.8M true Friday) had 167 sold tickets = 2.4M. Prey for the Devil (2.14M) had 207 = 2.3M. M3gan (8.95M) had 506 = 3.9M. Demeter (1.85M), numbers in the same 6 theaters = 1.3M. Malignant (2M first day) had 167 = 2.7M. Candyman (7.2M) had 447 = 3.6M. Old (5.4M) had 262 = 4.6M. Exorcist 2 (8.9M) had 1.115 = 1.8M. Barbarian (3.05M) had 140 = 4.85M. Firestarter (1.2M) had 115 = 2.35M. The First Omen (2.475M) had 152 = 3.65M. And The Pope's Exorcist (2.65M) had 142 = 4.15M. Average: 3.15M true Friday. Funny, on Tuesday I had only 4 comps and now I have 12 but the average stayed exactly the same ;).
  5. Don't worry too much. You're way too young to know what real big movie stars were 😉. Even I sadly missed that era, even the 80ies. IMO the trailer is ok, quite nice, but nothing special at all. Pretty niche, no family drama, no big love story, no American history, not heartbreaking, not controverse...as it was mentioned here, WHY exactly should this movie greatly overperform or be an indicator? Not ment as an offense, not at all. I think it will do fine, maybe even surprise, I hope so... If Horizon, Garfield, M: I and Gladiator 2 all flop despite being good movies, then we should worry...
  6. Abigail, counted today for tomorrow, had 248 sold tickets. Up modest (for that genre) 21.5% since yesterday. Comps (all movies counted on Wednesday of the release week for Thursday): The Invitation (775k from previews) had 176 sold tickets = 1.1M. Prey for the Devil (660k) had 140 = 1.15M. Demeter (750k) -> 6 theaters compared to the same 6 theaters = 650k. M3gan (2.75M) had 450 = 1.5M. Lisa Frankenstein (700k) had 209 = 1.2M. Barbarian (850k) had 222 = 950k. The First Omen (725k) had 120 = 1.5M. And The Pope's Exorcist (850k) had 176 = 1.2M. Average: 1.15M. Exactly the number of yesterday.
  7. Ungentlemanly Warfare, counted today for Friday, had 223 sold tickets (also in 7 theaters). So not frontloaded in my theaters. For that day it has the by far best sales in the AMC Metreon in San Francisco (84) and so far there's room for improvement in the AMC Sunset Place in Miami (29 sold tickets). Comps (all counted on Wednesday of the release week for Friday): Operation Fortune (780k true Friday) had 98 sold tickets = 1.8M. The Gentleman (2.375M) had 335 = 1.6M. Amsterdam (2.05M) had 197 sold tickets = 2.3M. And BT (8M) had 1.000 sold tickets = 1.8M. Average: 1.9M true Friday. Seems a bit too low. I doubt that it will have worse walk-ups than e.g. Operation Fortune 🤔.
  8. The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, counted today for tomorrow, had 203 sold tickets. Very even sales: in all 4 bigger theaters it has ca. 50 sold tickets; almost no sales in the 3 theaters between the coasts). Comps (all counted on Wednesday for Thursday): Operation Fortune (220k from previews) had 96 sold tickets = 450k. Amsterdam (550k) had 222 = 500k. Argylle (1.7M) had 847 = 400k. And BT (4.6M) had 1.238 = 750k. Average: 525k (Thursday only).
  9. And a little addendum from yesterday - not too important because I didn't have many comps and again The Last Voyage of the Demeter was a big outlier. New numbers (Thursday and Friday) in a few hours. Abigail had, counted yesterday for Friday, 169 sold tickets. Also a quite solid number. Comps (all 4 films counted on Tuesday for Friday): Candyman (7.2M true Friday, the movie had big jumps till Wednesday and Thursday back then) had 276 sold tickets = 4.55M. M3gan (8.95M) had 356 = 4.2M. Demeter (1.85M) had 177 sold tickets (Abigail has in the same 6 theaters 115) = 1.2M. And Malignant (2M first day (no previews?)) had 125 sold tickets = 2.7M. Average: 3.15M true Friday for Abigail.
  10. Abigail, counted today for Thursday, had 204 sold tickets. Up so-so 19% since yesterday. Comps (both counted on Tuesday of the release week for Thursday, I have way more comps tomorrow again): The Last Voyage of the Demeter (750k from previews) had still in only 6 theaters 153 sold tickets. Abigail has today in the same 6 theaters 126 sold tickets = 600k. And M3gan (2.75M) had 341 = 1.65M. With only 2 comps today of course I have to take both into account. Average: 1.1M. For some adjustment: Prey for the Devil (660k) had on Wednesday, so 1 day later, 140 sold tickets and The Pope's Exorcist (850k) had also on Wednesday 176 sold tickets = 1M plus 1 day left for Abigail to increase the margin. So I'm very confident that it will stay on average above 1M tomorrow and probably also on Thursday.
  11. First the Monday numbers of Abigail from yesterday. Tuesday numbers soon. Abigail had, counted yesterday for Thursday, 171 sold tickets. Solid. Doing best in the AMC Metreon in San Francisco (the sales in San Francisco, LA and NY are pretty much on par). Poor sales so far in the AMC Sunset Place in Miami. Comps (all films counted on Monday of the release week for Thursday): The Invitation (775k from previews) had 96 sold tickets = 1.4M. Prey for the Devil (660k) had 115 = 1M. M3gan (2.75M) had 274 = 1.7M. The First Omen (725k) had 82 = 1.5M. [The Last Voyage of the Demeter (750k) had 151 sold tickets in 6 theaters (so far no shows in the AMC in NY) = 600k, a pretty big divergence.] Average (without Demeter): 1.4M. Average (with Demeter): 1.25M.
  12. Ungentlemanly Warfare, counted today for Thursday had 129 sold tickets (in 6 theaters, the small AMC in Texas is missing). Comps: Operation Fortune (220k from previews) had on Wednesday for Thursday = 2 days left for TMoUW to increase the margin) 96 sold tickets. 1917 (3.25M) finally (= on Thursday for Thursday, 3 days left for TMoUW to come closer) had 879 sold tickets. Midway (925k) also finally had 300 sold tickets for Thursday. I doubt that TMoUW will reach that number but it should have over 200 sold tickets which would mean ca. ~ 600-700k from previews. And Amsterdam (550k) had on Monday of the release week for Thursday 184 sold tickets = 400k. Very rough average: 500k+ (as always without EA).
  13. The Monday update from insidekino.de - all films increased: #1 Chantal 232.5k/1.75M #2 GxK 95k/337.5k #3 Back to Black 85k #4 Dune 2 70k/2.89M #5 Kung Fu Panda 4 65k/1.412.5M ... The First Omen 42.5k White Bird 10k
  14. The final trend from insidekino.de - some increases: #1 Chantal 220k #2 GxK 90k #3 Back to Black 77.5k #4 Dune 2 62.5k #5 Kung Fu Panda 4 55k #6 The First Omen 40k #7 Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire 25k ... White Bird 10k
  15. Abigail, counted yesterday for Friday, had 77 sold tickets. 7 days left. Comps (all four films counted on Monday of the release week for Friday = 3 days left for Abigail to come closer or overtake): The Invitation (6.8M OW) had 87 sold tickets, Prey of the Devil (7.2M) had 149, M3gan (30.5M) had 247 and Old (16.9M) had 150 sold tickets. The First Omen (8.4M) had on Tuesday of the release week for Friday 116 sold tickets. And The Last Voyage of the Demeter (6.5M) had with 8 days left (= on Thursday before the release week for Friday) 56 sold tickets. Ok sales so far, not great, not bad. Tarot showed some small signs of life in my theaters and had yesterday for Thursday, May 2, 28 sold tickets (14 in the AMC Metreon in San Francisco and also 14 in the Universal Cinema in LA).
  16. The gruesome second trend from insidekino.de: #1 Chantal 225k #2 Back to Black 75k #3 GxK 75k (so actually #2) #4 Dune 2 60k #5 Kung Fu Panda 4 45k #6 The First Omen 40k ... White Bird 10k Clearly the weather is to blame. The weekdays should become greyer and colder again but at the moment it's very nice here. Probably some people will even (temporarily) start the BBQ season...
  17. The first trend from insidekino.de - all three new releases stay a little bit below the expectations: #1 Chantal 240k/1.755M total admissions #2 Back to Black 100k (with previews) #3 GxK 85k/325k #4 Dune 75k/2.897.5M #5 Kung Fu Panda 4 65k/1.412.5M ... The First Omen 47.5k White Bird 10k
  18. Civil War, counted today for today, had 1.357 sold tickets (in 7 theaters). Doing best (by far) in the AMC Metreon in San Francisco (605 sold tickets), followed by LA (319) and NY (203). Up solid 20% since yesterday. Comps (all films counted on Thursday of the release week for Thursday): The Creator (1.6M from previews) had 1.120 sold tickets = 1.95M. Monkey Man (1.4M) had 1.111 sold tickets = 1.7M. Argylle (1.7M) had 997 sold tickets = 2.3M. Amsterdam (550k) had 289 sold tickets = 2.6M. BT (4.6M) had 1.508 sold tickets = 4.15M. And Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (5.8M) had 2.573 sold tickets = 3.05M. Average: 2.6M. The three comps that I had also yesterday (BT, MM and Argylle) stayed almost exactly the same . The jump till today wasn't too big and I still don't think that this is a film which will have giant walk-ups but it should clearly beat the OW of Monkey Man.
  19. Civil War, also counted yesterday for Friday, had 1.360 sold tickets (in 7 theaters). Up decent 34.5% since Monday. Comps (all counted on Wednesday of the release week for Friday): BT (8M true Friday) had 1.000 sold tickets = 10.9M true Friday for CW. Nope (13.1M) had 2.408 sold tickets = 7.4M. And Monkey Man (2.8M) had 807 = 4.7M. Average: 7.65M true Friday. Still the big problem is the unevenness. But at least CW is now comfortable in front of Monkey Man.
  20. New Thursday numbers later today. Just for completeness: Civil War, counted yesterday for Thursday, had 1.130 sold tickets (in 7 theaters). Up quite good 37% since Monday. Comps (all counted on Wednesday of the release week for Thursday; I did not count The Creator on Wednesday, but today I have comparison numbers again): BT (4.6M from previews) had 1.238 sold tickets = 4.2M. Nope (6.4M) had 2.839 sold tickets = 2.55M. Argylle (1.7M) had 847 sold tickets = 2.25M. And Monkey Man (1.4M) had 933 sold tickets = 1.7M. Average: 2.7M. On Monday it were 2.5M so it went a bit up.
  21. A momentary glimpse at how Abigail is doing in my theaters: It had today for next Thursday ( = 8 days left) 109 sold tickets with showtimes in all of the 7 theaters. Comps (all counted on Monday of the release for Thursday = 5 days left for Abigail): The Invitation (775k from previews) had 96 sold tickets, Prey for the Devil (660k) had 115, M3gan (2.75M) had 274 and The First Omen (725k) had 82 sold tickets. Not bad. Until then Abigail should manage it to have at least 1.5x the sales of today which would mean ca. 1-1.5M from previews.
  22. Civil War, counted yesterday for Friday, had nice 1.011 sold tickets (again with showtimes in 6 theaters). So it doesn't look frontloaded in my theaters and has a good Thursday:Friday ratio. Comps (tomorrow more comps; all three films counted on Monday of the release week for Friday): BT (8M true Friday) had 655 sold tickets = 12.4M , KotFM (6.8M) had 1.224 sold tickets = 5.65M. and Nope (13.1M) had 1.616 sold tickets = 8.2M. Average: 8.75M true Friday for CW. You see, the same problem, very uneven from the comps. Still, over 1k sold tickets already on Monday of the release week is surprisingly good.
  23. Civil War, counted yesterday for Thursday, had 826 sold tickets (with showtimes in 6 theaters). Comps (I'll add some comps tomorrow; all three films counted also on Monday of the release week for Thursday): Monkey Man (1.4M from previews) had 709 sold tickets = 1.6M, The Creator (1.6M) had 809 sold tickets = 1.65M and BT (4.6M) had 879 sold tickets = 4.3M (sorry, I had the wrong number). Average: 2.5M (that number makes more sense). That's the problem this week. The presales of CW are really fine in my theaters but the comparison numbers are very uneven, depending on whether a film had good or bad walk-ups. I said that I will stay rather conservative this week and how the tickets are proportioned is similar to the split which Monkey Man and The Creator had: all three films have/had around 100 sold tickets in the AMCs in NY and Miami, between the coasts almost nothing is sold and in San Francisco and LA the sales look very good with combined 500-600 tickets. 🤔
  24. I see that almost nobody cares today so I'll post the rest tomorrow 😉. Ungentlemanly Warfare had today 56 sold tickets today for Friday = 11 days to go. So an improvement but still a pretty poor number and I will wait a few days till the next count. Comps (not easy to find good comps IMO; both films counted for Friday): Amsterdam (550k from previews/2.05 true Friday/6.5M OW) had on Monday of its release week 121 sold tickets. Operation Fortune (220k/780k true Friday/3.1M OW) had 98 sold tickets on Wednesday of its release week. Seems meager for Warfare but that also could change quickly.
  25. Because the "weak" April got so much talking I looked at the presales of Civil War and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare on Friday = 3 days ago. I decided to count the Friday because the Thursday presales could be less informative due to the EA shows. And I was surprised how different they look: Warfare had for Friday, April 19 = with 14 days left combined only 30 sold tickets in 6 theaters (no showtimes in the AMC Lakeline in Texas). Ok, it's still early. Whereas Civil War had also for Friday, April 12 = with 7 days left in the same 6 theaters 825 sold tickets combined. Comp: That's on par with e.g. Monkey Man on its Wednesday for Friday = 5 days left for Civil War to increase the margin. So a very good number for Civil War, especially for Friday. But after the disappointment which Monkey Man was to me I will stay way more careful and conservative this week. Civil War could overperform (I saw that other reports here look quite promising too) but it could also be the next presales hit with sparse walk-ups. Still, quite interesting. Will post new numbers later today.
