Wow, so you are a noob then.
Make sure to watch them from now on, they are infinitely better than most Pixar, so you'll gain a needed perspective.
Funny thing is, I feel like for a while there was a bit of a sesaw between the two in terms of quality.
WDAS had the Renaissance when Pixar was starting out
Afterwards WDAS had a slump period (though in that slump period was The Emperor's New Groove which is one of my all-time favorite Disney movies), while Pixar put out hit after hit.
Then Pixar's quality dipped while WDAS bounced back.
And now both seem to be putting out good-to-great movies.
Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.

Nah, what was done with the princesses in Ralph Breaks the Internet was pretty entertaining and high-profile, yet it didn't seem to help much at the box office. The movie did OK, but less than what Disney would expect from an original WDAS movie, let alone a sequel. Fans might have been geeking out over this, but the general public are not exactly dying to experience a Disney princess overload, much less a feature-length one with a necessarily highly contrived premise (or even one with a solid story, if that would be possible). I don't mean to be such a killjoy, but not everything can or indeed should imitate the MCU.
I think the reason why the Princess crossover didn't seem to do much for WiR2 at the box office is because, well, it's a WiR movie, not a Disney Princess crossover movie. At most the Princesses would only be in the movie for a couple scenes, but Ralph and Vanellope are the central characters.
I don't think it would be plausible to have a mega Disney Princess crossover like that because the majority of them live in different time periods and places, unless dimension-hopping/time travel was involved (Tangled/Frozen potentially being the exception if the fan theory of them being related is ever made canon). If there was a feasible reason to have them interact a crossover could work, at least between a few of them.

Hmmm, let me see:
1. I hate Toy Story 1.
2. I hate Toy Story 2.
3. I hate Toy Story 3.
4. I hate Toy Story as a whole.
5. I hate sequels - and especially long delayed ones.
6. I hate the critics and never trust them.
7. I especially hate the critics who lie through their teeth to make every Pixar movie look Fresh.
8. I also hate Pixar.
9. Most of all, I hate Pixar sequels!
What are the chances I like this one, you say?
I am still going to see it - but only once. And half of the time I am going to be mad at how ugly and boring it is. While quality and original animated movies like most Dreamworks, WDAS and Illumination I watch at least three times or even FIVE+ times each! (Some I have seen TEN times - always in cinemas, never on TV.)
PS: Also, you haven't seen me, how can you say I am "a sad, strange little man"?
I agree with you in some respects on critics. Critics didn't think too highly of the new Aladdin or Alita (according to Rotten Tomatoes at least) but I adored both movies.
I'm curious though, what exactly do you hate about the Toy Story franchise?
P.S. Really I was just joking around since that's a quote from the first movie and this is a TS4 thread.

The Shay only reads the Rotten reviews of the movies he hates (makes me feel good), so as far as I'm concerned, this movie's embargo is still on, and there are no reviews to read.
Predictable.
To quote Buzz: "You are a sad, strange little man, and you have my pity."
Also the movie isn't even out yet, how can you say you hate it?

My list of those 2008-2018 WDAS movies I've seen all the way through (haven't watched WiR2 yet and haven't finished BH6)
1. Frozen
2. Zootopia
3. Tangled
4. Wreck-It Ralph
5. Bolt
6. Meet the Robinsons
7. Moana
8. The Princess and the Frog (I would have probably liked it better if it had a different setting, 1930's bores me)
9. Winnie the Pooh
Edited to add Pooh and Meet the Robinsons since I forgot those.

Is Ripley a Disney princess now ?
No, and Neytiri isn't either. From what I've heard, there are several requirements to be considered an official Disney Princess:
1. Must be a lead female in an animated Disney movie
2. Must be human
3. Must be born royal, marry a royal, or perform a significant act of heroism (hence Mulan)
3. Must have the movie be a success at the box office
So Ripley wouldn't be one because of Rule 1, but you might be able to count Anastasia in a technicality (Probably won't happen, though). However, I could see Disney making a live-action remake of Anastasia.
i think that if Hercules had made more money Meg would be considered one. She saved Hercules's life.

I have never been a huge Toy Story fan and this movie seemed like too much for me, don't get me wrong I think Toy Story 1,2&3 are pretty excellent but I have always preferred The Incredibles, Finding Nemo or Ratatouille. Now after these reviews and after loving Incredibles 2 I am really excited to watch this.
Now please Pixar after Toy Story 4 bring me a lot of original movies + Incredibles 3 until at least 2025
The Pixar team apparently said that after TS4 they're only doing original movies for the foreseeable future, so yay!

Well TS3 was released when presales were lower than they are right now. It's definitely getting great buzz but, imo, not at the level of I2. Still, you could be right. I'm a bit less optimistic about the prospects than most on here, I'm currently thinking Dory numbers for the OW.
Probably because I2 was a sequel that people had been clamoring for since the first Incredibles came out. Whereas with Toy Story people thought TS3 was a perfect ending and 4's existence is just a cash-grab.
By the sound of the reviews it's paying off though and actually good.
I heard a few years back when TS4 was first announced, the main plot was going to revolve around them finding Bo Peep, but closer to release they changed 75% of the script. While finding Bo does play a factor here, I'm relieved that judging by the trailer the plot more revolves around Forky and the existentialism of what makes a toy alive in the TS universe rather than something that seemed more "TV special plot" level than theatrical.

It's the kind of film that would fail in the antagonist department.
Not if they got some sort of super-billain who potentially resurrected magically-enhanced clones of the villains like Queen Grimhilde, Mother Gothel, Lady Tremaine... maybe even featuring Chernabog.

Right. While I think the directors made the best possible choice in finally doing a road trip adventure, as Frozen was originally intended to be, rather than repeating what they did in any way, I think they made perhaps the worst possible choice in trying to explain the source of Elsa's powers. I realize that a lot of people have wondered about this, but it's the kind of thing that is usually best left unexplained, especially given how her powers metaphorically represent traits that we are all born with. Explaining why she has powers may dilute and/or complicate this metaphor unnecessarily, especially if they give her powers some kind of definite, predetermined purpose that she has to discover (I said "if"). I don't want Elsa to lose her near-universal relatability. If it were up to me, I'd leave this stuff to fanfic writers to run wild with rather than give it a canonical answer. "She was born with them" is good enough for any character unless the story requires more, and this one does not.
Fun fact, a few years ago before they planned to make Frozen 2 Jennifer Lee did reveal why Elsa was given powers—she was born during a planetary alignment on the winter solstice. I'm not sure if they'll retcon it in the sequel, but that was the explanation. That's also one reason why I think Anna is going to get powers in the sequel (well, that and the fact that Anna has leaves swirling around her in a sticker sheet that was released), because she was born on the summer solstice.
6 hours ago, Melvin Frohike said:I haven't changed my position one bit--I don't like WDAS making sequels, and I really don't like when they're forced to.
In this case, they weren't forced to. Jennifer Lee said initially they weren't going to make a sequel, but her and Chris Buck were discussing Frozen one day, realized "Wait a minute, that's the avenue we haven't explored yet" and then got the idea for the sequel. I hate forced sequels as well, but by the sound of it this sequel came out through them just realizing there was more they wanted to tell with these characters, rather than Disney forcefully mandating it as was probably the case for Cars 2 and such.
7 hours ago, Melvin Frohike said:No, that song drove many people crazy for some reason (don't ask me why, as I think it's a great song) and created a huge backlash and a lot of ill-will toward the original movie. I'm not sure whether it going "viral" like that helped or hurt more at the box office overall, but Frozen had many other characteristics that I think would have ensured that it became a huge hit regardless. The sequel doesn't need such a song any more than the original did, or other movies need any original songs at all. What it needs is solid songs that support the story (not that "Let It Go" didn't--it did) without driving millions of people--many of whom have never even seen the movie--up the wall.
The reason LiG drove so many people crazy is because it was overplayed to many people. It was on the radio, there were covers, people were singing it everywhere, heck, Good Morning America even had a live Let It Go sing-along. People for some baffling reason tend to hate on things just because they're popular (I guess they think it makes them "cool" or something). They didn't have a problem with "Let It Go" as a song, just that it was overplayed, similar to My Heart Will Go On reportedly was with Titanic.
Into the Unknown or some other song in the movie (presumably whichever one they release on Youtube before the film releases like with LiG if it's a good enough song) will probably get backlash the same way if/when it gets overplayed as well.

Pictures from the table read might actually include information that we previously didn't know about - although I am just clutching at straws.
Take a look at Sigourney's placeholder card - I think her character title is 'Eywa'. Also our first look at the scripts and what looks to be a new or previously unseen (?) LS logo:
Huh, if that's the case then I'm guessing Eywa is going to speak through a projection of Grace or something. Cool!

Watching GMA, seems like by the lineup shown at the start they'll be showing the Frozen 2 trailer closer to the end, but I'm keeping it on just in case so I don't miss it.

Disney princess with superpower....
Disney typical princess X Superhero ?
In the first movie, it didn't concentrate much on power of Elsa (origin, source,...)
Frozen 2 seems to concentrate on that.
Does it appeal to people?
Considering how popular the Marvel films are, absolutely yes.

I personally don't want there to be any romance for Elsa period. I'd rather just focus on the adventure.

I'm not scared of gay people.
However, I know people/relatives who think media is normalizing homosexuality as brainwashing to confuse people and if they insert that in Frozen I'd never hear the end of it.

Let the ga(y)mes begin.
Why do people want to shoehorn characters being gay into everything again?
You want a character to be gay, fine. But have it be an original character who's not already established from a previous movie and not shoehorn an orientation in to push a "representation" agenda when gay people are only 4% of the population when people want to push it and act like its 20%.
Like a character for their actual character, don't just say "I just like this character because they're gay for no reason".

Yeah, that's when this forum was created. Lots of members were on the box office mojo forum. I dont think it was an "official" merge from Mojo to boxoffice.com, but this is essentially the same thing. So regular members from Mojo days joined this place when it was made in 2011.
I've no idea which threads are archived, if any, but you can browse it here which is saved from March 2011:

By the looks of it it seems the last archive for the Box Office Derby section was in 2008. Shame, I'm sure the Avatar thread was insane.

Oh yeah, I know, that's the entire reason I joined here in the first place. XD Frozen's box office run was called "Frozetar" in the thread at points because they had similar "okay start then WOM explosion to a cultural phenomenon" runs by the looks of it.
