  1. In no particular order:

    1. Frozen (love it FOREVER)

    2. You've Got Mail (first time, pretty good)

    3. Legally Blonde (finally saw it all the way through after just having seen the ending several times, pretty dang good, a lot better than expected)

    4. Freaky Friday (the 2003 version—Jamie Lee Curtis is hilarious, I love that movie)

I'd have more to add if we were talking TV series as well, but whatever.:P

  2. It's like Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, with Robin Williams playing Kevin Costner, Dustin Hoffman playing Alan Rickman, and Dante Basco as Christian Slater.

I knew Robin Williams was in it, but Dante Basco too?!:o *loves him as Zuko in Avatar the Last Airbender* And the other guy acts like Alan Rickman who played Snape in the HP films? Okay, I've got to see it!:)

  3. Wait, isn't Stockholm syndrome when a hostage, supposedly as the result of a psychological survival mechanism, sympathizes with and even adopts the criminal/deranged perspectives of their captor(s)? I don't recall Belle being so afraid that she "snapped" and irrationally started to take Beast's side. It seems more like she wanted to go home the whole time, stubbornly refused to comply with his demands, and chastised him for his poor behavior, while it was Beast who eventually changed his own perspective. If anybody had Stockholm syndrome in this movie, it would seem to be Beast. No, not really, but he comes closer in some ways. ;)

Haha, I've never heard anyone say before that Beast/Adam comes closer in some ways to Stockholm Syndrome. XD

  4. I think the problem was that a lot of Big Hero 6's potential opening weekend press went to opinion pieces on Interstellar's "disappointing" opening, with a side note that said "oh yeah, and a Disney cartoon opened too". That just kind of sucked the air out of the room, and prevented BH6 from really establishing itself with the press. Penguins flopping a couple of weeks later didn't help either, as it kept attention off of BH6 doing well and back on to DreamWorks' continued financial woes.

EDIT: Dingdong123 beat me to it:

True, I see your point there. I actually forgot that Interstelkar and BH6 opened the same day. (I've seen IS but not BH6)

  5. Big Hero 6 will close its run near 220M$. Considering the gross of Tangled and Wreck-It Ralph in past years and seen the great echo created by Frozen on Disney Animation, this doesn't seem like a great performance. The same can be said about the results overseas : at the moment BH6 hasn't been so strong in all major markets in which it came out except Japan, while getting some good performances in smaller markets. At this point must hope for a great result in China to overcome at least the WW gross of Tangled.

The biggest problem? I think Disney has never really believed in this movie (Perhaps they was too busy to milk their new ice cow). The marketing before and during the opening was even worse than that of Frozen, that was saved first by a monstrous word of mouth and then by the success of the soundtrack and by the repeated views, while for BH6 almost nothing of this is happened.

I honestly think that it's starting to seem like other animated films (or maybe even films in general) are just put in the category of being "not-Frozen."

  6. Dreamworks isn't going to target its films at adults, so let's just nip that idea in the bud right now. Funny kids movies are what sell big these days, it's just a matter of giving them a unique hook which they've failed to do with any consistency.

Plus, there was that animated show "Father of the Pride" they did around the time Shrek came out, that was for an adult audience, and it didnt do so well.

Entertainment that kids are able to watch used to be their forte. But now they've languished from their former greatness, with some exceptions.

  7. I know about Development Hell, I've read Tales from Development Hell too. I meant films getting canned DURING production. (Just remembered it happened to Me and My Shadow also, right? That was IN production when it was shelved, right?)

I think films like that still are said to be in "Development Hell", at least as TV Tropes defines it—their one-sentence summary is, "Where unreleased, pending works go to die." There seem to be a few examples on that page of films that were in production only to be shelved, and Me and My Shadow is also mentioned.

  8. Stephen Schwartz and A.R. Rahman wrote a bunch of songs for the Mumbai musical - I guess all that work will go to waste?

I do wonder if B.O.O. will ever see the light of day. How many films, animated or otherwise, have been canned in mid-production and never finished/released?

Sad to have to wait still another year for HTTYD3, but at least it's still happening.

Shame about B.O.O, that and Me And My Shadow seemed like interesting films I'd like to see.:(

As for your question about films, allow TV Tropes to enlighten you about Development Hell:

  9. It's probably in post-production already or close. They just moved it back a few months to get it out from under the buzz saw of Star Wars and have a chance of making money.

Plus, it's also likely the close to the trilogy like HTTYD 3.

I heard at one point they were thinking of making 6 KFP movies, but at this point they'll probably just go with three. It would be better for the brand (and at this rate I'm beginning to doubt that DWA could properly last up to then.)

  10. The second half of the season looks promising. I like the idea of the "Queens of Darkness", although Merrin Dungey's costume of Ursula was ridiculous.

But damn, I'm going to miss the Frozen cast. They were really perfect.

I literally shouted when I realized the next episodes wouldn't be til March 1st!:o. Now we'll just have to watch reruns every Sunday night.:P

And I agree, the Frozen cast was absolute PERFECTION.:D. I really hope they come back someday!

    I agree :)

By the way, Rumple outside of Storybrook, does that mean he can't use his powers?

I think so. But knowing him, he'll find a way to get back, he always seems to have a plan for everything.

  11. As for Pixar's Dia de los Muertos project, given the recent release of The Book of Life and that there is another upcoming movie based on the same holiday, Pixar may want to consider retooling their own project anyway (if they feel it's necessary).

Yeah, when The Book of Life came out, I was like "Aw man!  I was looking forward to that Pixar movie and now they might have to change it!":(

I couldn't help thinking Emily Hahn sounds a lot like Madeline Peters now

Haha, I didn't notice that, but now I'm probably going to be thinking that, lol.
