  1. Must you massacre objectivity so violently?

I didn't mean to come across that way. I know that the Minions are VERY popular, and this will do very well and it deserves to providing it has a good story. I just feel like Inside Out may have a bit more novelty to bring to the table.

Then again, the Minions are part of a franchise and IO is new, so Minions has that going for it. We'll see though.

  2. The trailer looks pretty good, this is gonna be huge probably the highest grossing animated film of the year.

I think/hope Inside Out will beat it. I never got the appeal of the Minions and IO has a unique concept and Pixar brand on its side.

I don't think IO will be the next Frozen like some articles are saying (that's an INCREDIBLY tall order, after all), but I do think IO deserves top spot this year.

  3. Happy b'day! :D

I think the movie in question is the Rumpelstiltskin adaptation though, especially as it was strongly rumored to be set in Spain.

Though I wouldn't be surprised if another switch took place on the WDAS release schedule, ala Giants and Moana, freeing Bove and Lee for Frozen 2.

They're doing a Rumpelstiltskin adaptation?:o... I'm sure it'll be at least decent, but I'll likely just be thinking of Once Upon a Time's version.:P

  4. This movie was incredible! Better than Frozen.. maybe even better than Tangled.. perhaps the best animated film I've seen since... The Lion King!!

Out of curiosity, why did you like it so much?  From what I've heard (friend saw it but not me), the only characters to get any development were Hiro and Baymax, and the main reason Baymax was caring was because of his programming, rather than developing his own personality beyond his intended purpose like WALL-E.

  5. Wall-E was a romantic comedy and that turned out fine.

Yeah, but that was a single movie.  A great movie, true, but the entire history we knew of these characters was centered around that.

Toy Story 4 is including established characters from three prior movies, throwing out some of the primary relationship building established, going through a tone change, and being a tacked-on afterthought to a perfectly-ended trilogy.

  6. What? Why does a romantic relationship between toys sound unappealing, but a platonic relationship perfectly appealing?

Agreed. Admittedly I shipped Woody/Jessie after Toy Story 2, but after Toy Story 3 I became a Jessie/Buzz shipper. Even though that was only in one of the movies, it didn't feel forced or out of place, so it worked.

But it's one thing to have sprinklings of romance here and there and another to have it be the focus.

Plus, Toy Story 3 ended on a perfect note.

  7. ...and how unpopular the WDAS musical The Princess and the Frog was, however, which was coincidentally made by the directors working on Moana right now.  At this point I'm not writing anything off, but I think that some folks have been making too much of this.  Having any similarities with Frozen does not, in itself, imply any success whatsoever, in my view.  Not every musical is going to be a big hit and/or well regarded, and the same goes for any movie involving princesses or ice--it depends on how everything is put together and whether the elements, of any type, have appeal.  There are also things like zeitgeist to consider, and obviously this is highly unpredictable, being so subject to change.

Honestly, I have an opinion on why TPatF wasn't well received.

Not necessarily because it was 2D.  Not because of the African American princess.  But because of the setting.

Disney is well-known for having a more fantasy element to their stories.  The New Orleans ragtime setting was something that didn't really fit with the "princess turning into a frog" aspect kind of thing, and it clashed.  At least in my opinion, the New Orleans setting was dull and boring.  I honestly feel like it could have done better if it weren't for that.

  8. Morris also mentioned that the film will be a romantic comedy. And that’s not all, the relationship the toys have with children and people will not be explored. Now this is interesting, because we would have to infer that Bonnie’s role won’t be expanded further, since that’s the only child Woody and the gang interact with. And if this is true, it’s pretty disappointing. We knew from the press release that Rashida Jones and Will McCormack (Celeste and Jesse Forever) were on hand for the script and that a love story would be the focus of the fourth film. We also know that Jones’ involvement is the strong female voice John Lasseter wanted in the writing.

    ....

I am mentally facepalming SO HARD at this right now. THIS is the idea John Lasseter said was "too good to pass up"?! It'snot going to be a continuation, and it's going to be a romantic comedy love story?!

They should have just left it alone. Really. I had no idea what to expect, but... THIS?!

  9. So B.O.O is canceled completely? I would have tought it would be possible for them to save it.

They would have needed that Best Animated picture Oscar to have something positive happen to them. Kung Fu Panda 3 coming this year would have also helped.

B.O.O. was the one of their original projects that I actually was looking forward to... in fact, that and Me and My Shadow were their ONLY original films I was looking forward to. :(

At this point, I feel like once HTTYD3 and KFP3 are released, Dreamworks doesn't have much left for it, unless they either uncancel the two above or actually come up with an original idea that's GOOD.

  10. Look at the attention Idina and Travolta got. WDAS still riding that Elsa goodwill wave yo. :P

Having said that, out of the 3 big studio animation frontrunners this year (Lego, HTTYD2, BH6), BH6 was the one that I liked the most. So yay.

Wait, are you talking about the Oscars last year, or did something come up with them this year? (I didn't watch the Oscars.)

EDIT: Just, checked, it was this year. Revenge of Idina! XD

  11. They are just drawings of icons of the show: the first one is a hook, the second one is Rumple's dagger and a rose, and I guess today we'll get the third teaser.

At the bottom of the poster, there's the ABC logo on the right and the Marvel logo on the left.

The tweets say "A magical tale will reveal itself Friday."

    Edit:

Nevermind, they JUST tweeted the third poster. It's the huntsman's box in which he was supposed to put Snow White's heart. The Marvel logo is still on the bottom-left corner.

    Edit 2:

OHHH I think it's a line of comics based on the show, published by Marvel: https://twitter.com/goodwinsdormer/status/557948633656860672/photo/1

So they are not teasers of the new episodes, after all.

*feels incredibly relieved Marvel won't be brought into this*

I can't believe that it's actually a few weeks away now... the hiatus is going faster than I thought it would!

... I'm still gonna miss the Arendelle gang though.:(
