I noticed sk and Japan are opposites when it comes to hollywood animated films. Disney&pixar do really poorly in korea while dreamworks does really really well. I think the opposite is true in Japan.

Are those type of movies called arthouse films? They call it 다양성 영화 and I didn't know how to translate it exactly. http://m.news.naver.com/read.nhn?mode=LSD&mid=sec&sid1=106&oid=416&aid=0000074103From this article I guessed those 2 were the highest scores but it seems like there's more that did better and yeah it's a great film so I'm happy it's doing well

Grand budapest hotel doing extremely well for a low budget "diversity film". 2 days after it's release it set the record for the fastest film to reach 20,000 admissions in korea surpassing previous record holder [like father, like son]'s record by 4days and inside lewyn davis' record by one day. It has been the #1 presale movie for two weeks with a high of an unprecedented 95.8% share. It looks to be only a matter of time before it passes [like father, like son] for highest admission diversity film title

I think it depends on how well Noah holds next week. If WoM tanks then people will choose CA over noah. Otherwise I see them sharing the spoils with neither dominating
It's true CA1 did only $3.8m in korea but Chris Evans & the film itself was unknown back then. With subsequent appearances in the avengers and a popular local film "snowpiercer" he and the CA character is now much more popular. probably not iron man popular but it will do much better than CA1. Pre-release rating is much higher atm too and expectation rating is 1219+/15-
Probably need to watch presales closely but atm I think $20m is a realistic goal.

D-4 CA:TWS up to 4th in presales with 7.2% share.
It'll be interesting to see how it plays out against Noah

When Beauty and the Beast(2014 french movie) will open in South Korea?
No release date. I don't think it's getting a release unfortunately
-
Only been out for two days so it's a bit too early to gauge what the reaction from Christian community. I doubt it'll be much though. Seen some reviews saying it's more of a human drama than biblical tale.
CA2 presales:4450, 7th total

HTTYD2 being a summer release I expect it to do better. Could be wrong.

That's after DOM breaking out.
It would be interesting to know what people predicted before DOM OW. I mean, Tangled did massive 400m OS, so I recall most people did not expect Frozen to outgross Tangled OS. So $10m (Tangled numbers) was a reasonable, if not bold, prediction for Frozen in SK (and every other market) before it released in NA.
That's a fair point.
So probably something like Sk:10 china:10 Japan:40
-
That was the prediction for Korea? I thought all animated movies flop in Korea?
Yeah judging from some of the posts earlier in this thread. Since tangled did $9m in korea quite a few people had $20m as the ceiling.
People were pessimistic for China too with some saying $10m even.
-
More impressive OS performance than DOM for Frozen IMO.
IF Japan does higher than expected, then East Asia will be the most impressive region for frozen.
Before release predictions were:
China: $20m
Korea: $20m
Japan: $60-70m
Actual:
China: $48m
South Korea: $77M
Japan: ??

Wtf? bigger friday than OW saturday?

INCEPTION made $38M n Korea. If the number remains consistent, NOAH will have a strong run there. Europe is a sweep.
I don't see this doing inception numbers in korea. Noah has little to no competition now but next week Captain america is being released. It's possible that CA2 will be poorly received like the first avenger was but I really doubt that. Chris Evans is a much more recognized and popular actor now than he was then, and the avengers did really well too so it has great potential.
Also Inception was released in July, Noah isn't going to have those kind of legs during march, one of the weakest movie going months of the year. The rating too is way below inception (6.75 to 9.19), not conclusive evidence I know but it shows the general audience isn't fully accepting it.
Only way for this to do inception numbers is if the christian community embrace it like they did with passion of Christ. don't see it happening unfortunately.

Is this reasonable omni or optimistic omni speaking?Skyfall is not enough. Transformers 3 must go down!

2014.05.01When is Rio2 coming out here?
-
Fantastic opening for Noah. It broke March OD record by a large margin.
(previous record - G.I. Joe: Retaliation 119,732)
Also impressive for The Grand Budapest Hotel considering few showtimes.
Elegant Lies -16% from last Thursday
300: Rise of an Empire -64%
Non-Stop -50%
Monster -82%
Excellent start for Noah, but it's got big competition next week in captain america. Already 9th in presales. Both of them could end up doing not as much as they can.

Frozen sets new VOD records in South Korea. Even though the theatrical run is almost at an end Frozen has managed to amass approximately $4.6M and 410,000 downloads in the two weeks since it's release.
This far outstrips the original record holders for download(man on the edge-160,000) and gross(miracle in cell no.7 with $1.3M) respectively.
The heaviest consumers of this product are, not surprisingly, parents with young children who use Frozen for English educational purposes.
Hoping this is a step in the right direction in reducing the number of illegal downloads in Korea.
