  1. Glad to see frozen getting sing along in many different countries! Sadly in south korea there has hardly been any advertising of the sing along version and many people don't even know about it or what it is. Atm, there's a good chance it won't boost tickets sales by any significant margin... :(

  2. SK frozen total admission #: 10.04m

    Total gross: $75.36m

Congratulations to frozen for officially reaching 10m attendance in Korea. The 10m admission is widely recognized as a landmark number in SK box office for “mega-blockbuster” films and to date, only 11 films have achieved this feat. Also, in a market where Korean films traditionally perform much better, Frozen is only the second ever foreign movie, after Avatar, to have reached 10m attendance.

Frozen is also the first ever animated film to reach 10m, blowing the previous #1 animated film kung-fu panda 2’s record (5.06m attendance) out of orbit. In a country where animated films are extremely unpopular even kung-fu panda’s record was considered to be a huge hit with most popular animations only managing around 3m at best.

Disney’s previous global hits Tangled and WiR were labeled as a “kids movie” and only managed 1m and 0.9m attendance respectively which makes frozen epic box office run all the more surprising. For the foreseeable future I don’t think any animated movie will come close to matching frozen’s box office numbers (unless Disney makes frozen 2!!!)

Frozen sing along version is coming out on march 6th so expect frozen’s legs in SK to carry on for a while longer :) especially if Disney does a clean sweep at Oscars!!

    -Daily admission: 46,290

    -Tot admission: 9.86m

-down by -30% compared to last friday

    -total gross: $73.97m

As long as frozen does at least 70k each on sat and sun, 10m amission should be done and dusted by this weekend :D 10m admissions in sk and 1bil worldwide by this weekend would be perfect!

  4. Japan usually does about the same as SK, correct? I recall someone saying that. That gives me high hopes for Japan.

Depends on the movie but Japan usually outgrosses Sk most of the time, especially for animated films. Just for frozen sk outperformed like crazy(11th in all time attendance and 7th all time gross) so idk if japan will go over it. I certainly hope so!
  5. Do you think it will have the same kind of impact that it did in the U.S.?

Well, Let it go created a near syndrome over here with countless cover versions and parodies being produced. And it held first position in our top music charts for a period, which is unprecedented for a foreign song(let alone an OST for an animation film). it's still top 5 in most music charts too. The other songs such as "Do you want to build a snowman" and "for the first time in forever are all really popular too SO...frozen sing along has a great chance of doing well in my opinion especially with an oscar wins!

Seriously though, I can't imagine what frozen's final gross will be if it breaks out in Japan and they get a sing along too!

  6. Source: from the website of one of the biggest movie distributing chains in korea.

    http://www.megabox.co.kr/Movie/movieDefaultPlan.aspx

Sorry it's in Korean but next to the Frozen poster it says "winter kingdom singalong(SK title of frozen)"

Also by challenging avatar I meant challenging the Korean admission numbers of avatar (it's #1 all time in SK box office) No way of knowing at this moment how long it will be shown or how widely it will be distributed but with oscar bump it has a good chance of performing very well! :)

  7. ooh sing-along version opening in Korea on Mar 6th!

Awesome! depending on how widely it is released and the duration of its run, frozen could even challenge avatar! I've only found info that it will be released on march 6th, do you have any more info?

  8. Disney’s Frozen Available to Watch on iTunes for The First Time Ever(from gottabemobile.com)Frozen is now available to download and stream via Apple’s iTunes service. The hit animated film was scheduled for a Tuesday release, but those on the West Coast were able to watch Frozen a few hours early since Apple and Disney released it at midnight EST. Released in late 2013, Frozen has grossed nearly $1 billion at the box office so far.Frozen is available to purchase for $19.99 in HD format from iTunes now. The more affordable standard definition isn’t available until March 18. Apple isn’t currently listing when the movie will be available to rent. What kind of impact will this have on Japan??

  9. I don't think LEGO will have much of an impact in Japan if South Korea is any indication at all. LEGO opened really weak and is already out of the top 10 there in its 2nd week.

Lego failed in South Korea because it was in conflict with 2 of the 3 main film distributors and so it didn't get many screens. Added to the low interest in lego itself and a very strong competitor in frozen made it do very poorly, worse than TNJ in fact.

  10. Sk box office numbers (mon)

    daily admission: 50,192

    tot: admission: 9.66m

    All time admission ranking:11th

    all time gross ranking: 7th

This weeks projection: 50k for weekdays and 14k for the weekend and SK will hit 10m admissions. greatest obstacles are new releases non stop, 12 years a slave & monuments men.

  11. Let it go missing out on best song would be a scandal in my opinion. Happy etc may be hot on billboard but they simply haven't had the same global impact that let it go has had. In my country many people see the let it go sequence first and come to love it and go to watch frozen as a result! Can that be said of any of the other songs?
