It hasn't been reported what STX has in it. Europacorp bought it for $8m before STX partnered up. Earlier reports said the production company had success selling OS rights. Anything over $16m would be a success for STX IMO.

They probably kept it if those reactions are legit.
Nope. They reshot it. Eggers and Ponsoldt came up with the alternative ending.
-
Hopefully by the time Valerian comes out STX will learn how to promote a film properly. I'm still salty about the Edge of Seventeen. STX fumbled that one.
The book ending for the Circle was perfect. They should have kept it.

This is the best movie of the year so far. It set the bar early and nothing has come close to it.

Reviews will come out after the Tribeca premiere tomorrow.
LA Times prediction
http://www.latimes.com/business/hollywood/la-fi-ct-movie-projector-circle-20170424-htmlstory.html
"EuropaCorp and STX Entertainment’s “The Circle,” based on the 2013 Dave Eggers novel about a powerful Internet company, is expected to collect a moderate $10 million to $12 million Friday through Sunday in the U.S. and Canada, according to people who have reviewed pre-release audience surveys....
EuropaCorp paid $8 million for the rights to the movie, which cost $18 million to make."

There's a lot more to screenwriting than just dialogue. No matter how much is improvised, DP2 will be heavily effected.
She wrote a movie for WB, a studio bound by WGA contracts, so she is indeed a WGA member now.
She's probably part of the British writing guild. Has she had anything filmed in the US? I don't know if it is different for actors but the HP kids didn't get their SAG membership till they filmed something in the US. I remember one of them talking about finally getting their sag card.

The RT audience score is at 67% (it was 68% yesterday morning).
And critics gave it a 87%. Sometimes the divide between critics and audience is glaring.

Weekends had good normal holds for BatB. I'm not sure why it's drops are now considered way lower?
-
It depends on how long they keep it out there. It's crossing the 1 billion mark today or tomorrow.

Interesting tidbits about Colossal o/w. I knew about the couple of Q&A's she did but not the other part.

It did good numbers but nothing outstanding. I'm not confident this has any legs.
-
It needed a higher opening weekend to get a $100 million second and it almost did that anyways. BatB is clearly a fam movie and it can't be compared to TDK since the opening months aren't comparable. For a live action musical it has performed spectacularly.
-
International stars had a very good spring. Kaluuya in GO, Jackman in Logan, Hiddleston with KK, most of the BatB cast. They are finding success domestically and over seas.
-
I think it'll just get past $500m. Having an international cast is really helping it over seas. Hitting $1 billion Foreign Accent Smurfette will be easier than $500m.

another advantage for TDK was, it simply it's a better film than RO and BATB, word of mouth was great!

BATB is a perfect example though of how Christmas / Summer Weekdays goose film grosses and how Springtime can be great for weekends but kills the dailies.
It's holding well during weekdays. It doesn't need much more to break 500m. It had a better drop than BB.

6.8 + 10.7 + 7.4 = 24.9m
Decent enough for Beast. But $500m is dead.
It was expected to make around $25.

Beast can't shake off damn Baby it seems. Baby had slightly bigger Friday and now a 1M bigger Saturday. Unless Baby drops harder on Sunday than Beast, looks like Baby will stay #1.
It's BatB fourth weekend! It's still hanging in there.

So is BatB going to hit 500M or fall short?
Wow, only 14 pages. smurf new movie weekend.
It'll hit 500m.
I'm curious to see how Colossal does. Ok numbers so far but not spectacular.

"EuropaCorp acquired the movie for an estimated $8M after it was financed by Image Nation Abu Dhabi for $18M. STX is handling P&A and receives a distribution fee on the pic."
So based on this both EuropaCorp and STX will make out fine.
