So now we are in "The CRITICS ARE ALL EVIL" mode.
I say thank Heaven for the Critics. At least they are standing up for intelligence and good taste in movies...two things the typical fanboy does not care about.
I take it you're a critic?

I know the Texas screening was a fundraiser for planned parenthood. They can invite who they want. Considering maternal death rate doubled since Texas decided to defund PP these screenings carry a symbolic and spiritual meaning. It's a chance to strengthen and support each other and enjoy a fun night out. If three screenings out of thousands threaten your existence then I don't want to know you.

Good grief. They hired a kid who is playing a high schooler in Spider-Man.

True film criticism is hard to come by.

She had a lot of male critics like Trainwreck. A lot of female critics hated Snatched as well.
In terms of professional critics, I don't know if gender is relevant to reception of her movies.
I think the highest grade Snatched got was from a male critic. A 4/4 review where the subtitle read "Loved it" like nine times.
I was being general but yes there are secure male critics that will give an honest review. I'm sure there are women who don't like her. I'm talking majority. I'm not considering Trainwreck since she has become more controversial since that film. Critics are just like everyone else. I just don't think some of today's film critics bother to overcome their opinions about movies/actors.

With most critics being male I wonder if she'll ever have a fresh RT movie again. Being a paid critic doesn't mean he or she will be objective.

In regards to the Schumer hate, I think her feminist banter probably pissed off a lot of people. It seems she does it with superiority and just attacks with vulgarity. I think it is funny though. It sort of reminds me of Sheldon Cooper in the Big Bang Theory and how he insults anything that does not consider a career in physics first and foremost (or think like he does).
She comes off as confident. If people are offended by her being a feminist then they shouldn't watch her. Simple as that.

From the trailers it doesn't seem like a whole lot of acting is required from either leads so hopefully as far as acting goes both with suffice.

Sorry That's sums up the vibe I've gotten.

Zendaya can't act. Gal can't act and now Cara can't act. Thank a God we have men folk to carry these films.

I'm not watching it.

This movie has a massive nostalgia factor going for it. The first one was a pretty good adaption of a King novel. It'll be hard to top Curry's performance. It should break all records for September.

JK Rowling is cramming in rewrites. I imagine they all are.

@ddddeeee, Danny Elfman's score for this is EASILY the best part of it. It's so good.
I love him. I think it's out on iTunes tomorrow.

The actors aren't being overly criticized, this one is landing on Eggers and Ponsoldt. Can't win them all. It doesn't sound like it is horrible. Maybe Hanks needed to be more of a villain than an actual real bad guy. Bad guys aren't always obvious. it'll tank on rotten tomatoes.

It's a little ironic that some critics were so offended by the movie they couldn't wait to get on social media to skewer it ?

No, you didn't get my quote right. I think that THR and Variety "reviews" are terrible because they just describe movie's plot and don't express an actual opinion about movie. In many cases, to understand if their review is positive or not, you have to wait for their RT/Metacritic score.
-
There are a few more negative or mixed coming out. Mostly issues with the plot but that goes with the book reception.

I'm seeing this for Elba. He's one of my favorites and he doesn't seem to get much quality work.

We don't know if they are positive yet. Let's wait for their RT/metacritic scores.
They're positive, clearly not negative. Don't worry there will be plenty of negative and mixed reviews. It probably won't be fresh on RT. I like Ponsoldt's work but he isn't for everyone.
-
At least variety and the Hollywood reporter get it's a Ponsoldt movie.

That's true. It does depend when they air them. You're probably right.
-
That's estimated and I can't see how they spent that much. They just started pushing any type of promotion the last two weeks so the 4.27 last week makes sense. Literally no one knows about this movie. If they are spending money on commercials they are cutting major costs elsewhere.
-
If europacorp has $8m invested in it that's all they need back to cover cost. STX is just covering promotion and they haven't invested a lot. The production company paid off budget by selling off rights. Either way the US distributors have a good chance making a profit off it quickly. It's just good business for them to partner.
