HOBBIT being railroaded by the glut of movies opening after it. This abnormal way of releasing flicks (I mean, opening Mockingjay 1 on a Sunday? Somewhere Only We Know opening on a Tuesday?) is hurting movies.
How much longer can Penguins retain screens when it isn't doing much over weekdays and newer films enter the fray.
Bad weekend for Fury, wasted pick for foreign films by virtue of competition, there used to be a time war movies like this are gold mine.
Interstellar faces a couple of 2D competition coming this weekend with the Wong Fei Hung movie (actually, is that 3D?) and Fury, both are marketed rather weakly so probably won't hold a candle. What's interesting to me is DW's gamble to open Penguins 2 weeks in advance...not sure if it has paid off.
If memory serves me right...it has now beaten The Avengers in China? Just goes to show the growth this market is experiencing, 2 years ago it was still a major deal to go past 500M.
Surprised TASM2 was this low going into its OW, this must sound alarm bells within Sony. If it gets beat by GOTG in China, tsk tsk tsk...no one could have predicted GOTG to come close to TASM2 a year ago, or that it would lag behind Cap 2 and XM:DOFP.
Then Maze Runner and TMNT happens next week, I think Herc definitely drew the short end of the stick here but Olive what's your sense of where GOTG will end up using this trajectory? 540, US$90 Mil thereabouts?
Depends how well it weathers the challenges from the 4 new 3D films hitting the marketplace over 10 days...starting with today's Hercules, reportedly did a little less than RMB 600K midnight shows, but that's to be expected, it was a Monday night after all.
The glut as designed by the authorities go into effect this week. Ice Age 2 re-release is good as gone, I think...curious to see what Herc will command come Tuesday, I think Lucy might just still prevail over it.

Good point...the drop norms may not apply as this is a full weekend if you may while last week was a half one. Here's hoping for a pretty nice hold as a result.
