  1. Despite the attempt to have the first three weeks of June have Hollywood cannibalize each other, arguably each fared well...
  2. I see, but that's an age old thing. Studios try to outdo each other all the time and hope the other guys fall.
  3. Hollywood does not decide it, China Film does, often by design, to pack them and cannibalize each other.
  4. Olive where does one see this info on Wanda audience affinity? Thanks.
  5. Vicious cycle, the approvers only getting loud, exploding special effects movie and the rest of Hollywood's genres left untouched. If they found a way to do limited releases (meaning a radical change in distribution patterns and strategies as well as the annual quota), more movies will find audiences in China.
  6. My mind is conjuring buttoned up Chinese censor bureaucrats scratching their heads after a 22 Jump Street screening...what do they mean by "sun's out, gun's out?"
  7. Does anyone else think that the World Cup is affecting the OW for Godzilla? People do need their sleep at some stage?
  8. If it didn't have Godzilla and Maleficent on its heels we could be looking at high 300's into 400's like Robo and NFS repectively, but looks increasingly like a 250-300 tops proposition or below? Let's also not forget that NFS had a weakened Robo before it and nothing nearly as intensive competition-wise in March. And Robo didn't have much competition too for 2 weekends at least til NFS hit.
  9. Any news on EOT midnights compared to the last few Hollywood releases?
  10. I doubt it, unless it is REALLY good but Godzilla will half its showtimes this time next week, then Maleficent will take another chunk in 2 weeks...by TF4 it is good as gone.
  11. Spidey biting X-Men dust now... Does anyone have an idea of Edge of Tomorrow buzz, not talked a lot about so far...
  12. somewhere around US$ 115 Million thereabouts, 717 mil RMB off memory?
  13. This is what makes this business/game fun, no one could have predicted at the start of the year that Cap in China would be bigger than Spidey and X...the real letdown is Spidey, arguably the most iconic one of the three and coming in 3rd.
  14. Hmm, definitely advantage = TF4 in terms of being the last release out of the gates, as if it needed more help! Maybe Maleficent will survive a bit too as a result, a family/female driven alternative for those looking for Hollywood fares, at this point, crumbs are better than a wipeout for Angelina Jolie! Oh and I mentioned this, Maleficent is probably the only world cup proof title in June, no?
  15. How soon til the next hollywood release? Early August? Don't tell me late August? And where oh where is HTTYD2?
  16. Best yet to come for DOFP, they have a holiday weekend this week...remains to be seen if Overheard 3 is going to be a threat, but it being non-3D should help.
  17. Makes perfect sense, end of the day FBB is very polarizing but no one can doubt she attracts media and coverage, for better or for worse, in DOFP's case, results prove for better.
  18. I'm skeptical of Bingbing being a huge factor, I'm sure it did not hurt, but I don't think if the factor was significant. IMHO.
  19. I doubt if the Film Bureau censorship committee are anywhere nearly as good as the folks in this forum when it comes to judging movies, LOL!
  20. Folks at Marvel Studios must be laughing and pleased at speculations as yours, as early as the start of the year, nobody would have thought Cap would be where it is versus Spidey and X, the ones Marvel couldn't rein back in. Credit to Cap. Like you though, might pleased that Spidey's crushed. Go Avengers, Go X-Men!
  21. So going by this, no 3D entries til Bride in end of July, this is good for TF4. One thing to consider, when TF3 happened the one month in cinemas rule hasn't been implemented, I think, so it must have ran for up to 6 to 8 weeks, whilst the market has grown a lot, one also have to factor in the fact that it will be forcibly pulled some 30 days after it debuts. Yes I think 240-250 is now possible, depending if the movie underwhelms or overwhelms, it will be monster big at opening.
  22. I second that...Spidey would have never thought it would lag behind Cap and X in China...where the former's previous installment was a non-starter and the latter's wasn't even released (First Class).
