  1. ...and the glut as designed by the powers that be will be in full effect soon.
  2. Do we know what film has highest October opening in China? I'm guessing Break-Up Buddies and the Detective Dee films count as Sept openers since they almost always opened on the eve of the holidays?
  3. Apparently The Grandmaster re-issue has moved off to January 8, 2015, according to news reports. In terms of GOTG competition for 3D screens it is only the re-issue of Ice Age: The Meltdown (still scratching my head on this one, why?) on Monday and then Hercules on October 21...I don't see either being huge threats. Lucy is hitting 24th Friday, not sure of it has been 3D-converted for China, some weibo posters are saying so.
  4. Midnight shows sometimes can be misleading though, Spidey had a huge midnight showing significantly above of X and Cap just earlier this year. I guess the front-loadedness and the word of mouth can be a factor too...
  5. Didn't realize 1 was not released...then it might be that technically it is easier to get past censors since the conversion took place with a movie that was already content-approved in the first place. Hear, hear on the release date selection, they got a raw end there a bit.
  6. Any more Interstellar news? worried as december closing in and I assume the quota is nearly full.
  7. Curious decision from why convert this installment (part 2 in a series, fairly recent) to releasing it ON A MONDAY and outside of Summer.
  8. Overall box office slowing down...what happened to Into the Storm? The market used to be a gold mine for mindless, effects driven disaster flicks (think 2012, Day After Tomorrow)...is it just the post Summer blues finally catching up?
  9. What competition? The locally 3D-fied Ice Age 2 in a non-Summer date? Hercules 11 days later?
  10. No word on Fox's previously announced 3D re-release of Ice Age 2? The Summer is coming to an end. Still a rather curious decision on why the 2nd film (not the first).
  11. Indeed, but we are assuming all things remain the same: the rapid increase of screens, macro economy not getting affected, the quota system improves or at least stays the same, and the China market remain unaffected by the 3D fatigue that's already hitting domestic and many other markets.
  12. Went back three pages, no one seem to be talking about the next wave of Hollywood releases. The gates are set to open reportedly middle of August with HTTYD2...what follows after?
  13. Anyone apart from me suspecting there's some hanky panky...possibly daylight robbery happening here with The Breakup Guru?
  14. TA2 should aim to topple TF3, close the gap with phase 3 and hope to catch up at TA3 or TA4, given it takes longer periods for Transofrmers to churn movies out...and the longer it takes, the less fresh it is in people's minds.
  15. LOL "ONLY"...that's the problem when you hype it up, without that earlier 40 Mil claim this would not have an "only" in front of it, more like a smashing, record breaking which it is.
  16. That's low...but that official weibo isn't Paramount ran I suspect...it's those guys in M1905 and Jiaflix
  17. No need to worry, T4 is going to obliterate everything...Maleficent though is likely to sweep up what's left if it can fend off new Chinese pic, a rom com called The Break Up Guru.
  18. Asked a mate who has access to EN Database...it would appear CA retained its #2 imported film crown (let's face it, it will be supplanted by Transformers on top in a few days) against DOFP by a margin of 600-700,000 RMB, photo finish but Steve Rogers managed to eke out a win. Credit still to DOFP, no IMAX after all. Final counts should be 719.78 M for Cap 2, and just above 719 for DOFP.
  19. He did visit China, for Oblivion last year and it didn't crack 100 Mil...maybe he should stay away? Don't forget he shot M:I3 and came to China for that too.
  20. Olive, which chart are you looking at? The En database suggests that as of Sat in real time numbers DOFP was some 2.5M RMB away from beating Cap 2.
  21. Don't think Paramount at fault here, I'm pretty sure the Pangu tie-in was pursued and completed by their Chinese partners, the lugheads at M1905 and Jiaflix. It's as relevant as the "reality show" they staged for roles in the movie, ones that I'm sure will be comical to see, if seen at all, yet they made all those claims in Hollywood and Wall Street that it was a weekly seen by hundreds of millions...nuts.
