  1. Let's agree to disagree on the alleged contributions of this DMG outfit...read and heard enough on my end.
  2. I don't know Bob...not sure if DMG is being given too much credit here. They bungled Looper before and now Transcendence, and the former did have a vaunted holiday release date in the weeklong October holidays and the latter its supposed major push with Depp's visit (but then again as you reported, that actually went South with media outlets and fans). Also read avid Marvel fans pissed with the "Chinese elements" inserted into IM3 way back when, which proved unnecessary (it wasn't a co-pro) and really clunky/clumsy (not sure THAT helped with Marvel's branding among movie fans). I'm sure the one thing that Transcendence benefitted from was getting in, otherwise would have been a dicey proposition (same might be said re: Looper)...IM3 and the likes of TF4, I don't think any partners would have been necessary to get these in (not like they're stupid enough to shoot anything anti-Chinese in them to get banned), all signs point towards these movies being brought in anyway as part of the 34...like any Jurassic sequel, Spidey movie or a Jim Cameron directed movie...as long as nothing political in it (then again...Hunger Games movies are getting in, go figure, Panem = Beijing!) It'll be interesting to see what DMG does with the Gerard Butler remake of "Point Break."
  3. Many thanks...will ask an update in a few months, as someone stated, the next couple of months get screwy as protectionism kicks in.
  4. BTW, thanks to Firedeep, that was the kind of list I'm looking for exactly...would love an update as at April for the 2014 titles!
  5. Bob, that's exactly what I mean, it is confusing for us on the outside looking in. The non-major titles could be either way...heck, Iron Man was a buyout (which is ridiculous, someone made a ton of $ there) and Hotel Transylvania was a buyout (also preposterous, why would Sony sell their animated's?), so even that's not for sure anymore. Then you get Snowpiercer and Ender's Game...it gets pretty confusing and China Films aren't the most transparent out there with these...wonder if we have insiders who can give us a better idea...
  6. No one seems to have a definitive list of the 34 Revenue Share titles...while it is easy to say the likes of Cap, Rio and other major studio titles are, it gets blurry with the likes of Transcendence and Ender's Game...are they RS or Bought-Out/Flat Sold ones? Be good if our elders can start running a list to countdown when the 34 slots are exhausted this year...it just never seems clear towards the end of every year...
  7. the other 7 are: Avatar, Titanic, Pacific Rim, Mission Impossible 4, Iron Man 3, Kungfu Panda 3, Transformers 3 (in no particular order)...what's the closest one for Cap to take down if it can, Olive? M:I4? KFP3?
  8. Not sure about Jupiter Ascending...wouldn't Edge of Tomorrow be a stronger fit? Speaking of fits, disaster film crazed Chinese audience will likely lap up WB's Into the Storm as well...whilst the initial trailer looks comical, I gotta think Paramount will push Hecules too...it will be another mad log jam in August-Sept and latter part of October to Nov. The mad dash to finish up the 34 film quota.
  9. So much for Johnny Depp coming to China...it barely beat Cap's THIRD WEEKEND and Rio's SECOND. I read in an earlier posting the distributors royally screwed up the visit and pissed off media? Maybe that played into it, on top of what's apparently bad WOM from those who saw it in China or the US...critics are roasting it!
  10. That's going to be eventual now, question is how much far up North if US$100 Mil. The first one barely broke 90 mil, right? So close to 7x and well more than 6x. Rio will be lucky to do 2x at this rate, though it will catch a windfall with whatever screens it can hang on to on the May 1 weekend (loads of local titles hitting)...Transcendence may actually disappear before May 1 at this rate, at least in the US it will.
  11. R Rio2 lording it over during the daytime...these weekend bounce up for animated's are more pronounced in the last 6 months.
  12. EN group listing Transcendence as just a shade above 17 Mil for OD. That's way lower than the 22-24 estimates coming out of last night. Coupled with mixed skewing negative WOM, this doesn't bode well for Mr. Depp.
  13. Many, thanks! So Rio surpasses Peabody today, still disappointing took them 8 days to reach the level of its very well received first installment. However, it is kicking Depp's arse early on in Saturday 2:1 in audience count despite roughly half the screens!
  14. Anyone has final (or near final) BO numbers on the following titles, for all intents and purposes wrapped up their runs?: Monuments Men Peabody and Sherman Need for Speed Thanks!!!!
  15. Newbie here, ahoy there...avid box office observer in China. Sparse crowds reported on Transcendence its first Sat. Many saying on Weibo they went to a show where they and their companion(s) were the only partons...not great for a first Sat. Word of Mouth coming off of Friday's shows is mixed to negative.
