I'm Shape of Water. Ironic, considering I'm about to see it in an hour.

I never knew I wanted this until now.

Winchester just started selling tickets today, so it's too hard to say anything yet, although it should be noted Thurday and Friday are the only days with sold tickets.

Anyone got any big plans for Sunday night's game? I know I'm having a couple of friends over.
Be at work for the first half of the game and pray I don't miss anything exciting when I get back home.

Also, is it bad that I'm weirdly hyped for this?

Told y'all you were being way too overconfident on this.

Got free passes for a screening of this on February 7
I think I might be able to go as well. Well, depending on how big my school workload is.

I only prefer digital media, because I'm a clumsy oaf who's not good at taking care of things, and digital gives me a perfect excuse to not better myself.
Though in all seriousness, physical books are much better and more preferred by me. With movies, I really don't care about aspect ratio or letterboxing or whatever the h*ck film nerds talk about.

Panther's now at a point where almost all of the 3-day shows are either sold-out or are at least half-full, with Monday being the only real slacker, and that's kind of a stretch to call it that, frankly.
Shades also saw a huge surge over the past week, with a sold-out Thursday 7 PM show, and some big increases on all the other days.

Isle of Dogs.
Runners up in no particular order: Red Sparrow, Wrinkle in Time, Love, Simon, RPO, Death of Stalin, and Uprising, if only for Boyega, Day, and the trailer music.

I had a super weird dream last night.
So I went to a showing of Sherlock Gnomes at 12:30 on Friday (Don't ask why that movie), and yet the whole theater was packed, with babies, kids, teens, and adults. I went down in the very front as previews were about to start. There was some kid babbling over and over, so I moved to another seat, right next to my Mom, who coincidentally saw the same movie at the same time in the same theater. There was a trailer that was going on for about 5 minutes, and the crowd got super angry, so the projectionist stopped the trailer halfway through. And then it went to a sequel to Legend of the Guardians (the Zack Snyder owl movie) I was super confused and thinking to myself, "Wait 'till BOT hears about this," but the crowd still got mad because they wanted to see Gnomes, so all the trailers got cut, which got me upset.
Then the Paramount logo came up, but for some reason, the Mountain was replaced with Cookie Monster. I guess there was a Sesame Street short playing, but all I saw was some live-action bits with Johnny Depp, and I later got distracted by some teenage girl behind me talking super loud with her. I asked her quietly to stop talking, then she got pissy with me and started getting louder and louder, and I was getting more angry, but my Mom was getting mad at me, and said something like "Eric, sit down and ignore them." So I was in a bad mood, and just said to myself, "@WrathOfHan will have a field day with this." Then I noticed the screen was completely black, and then I realized, "Wait a minute...it's January." And then I woke up.
...I have issues.

Something I'm stealing from @La Binoche from the weekend thread:
In Spring 2016, Hello, My Name is Doris, a Roadside film, managed to gross $14.4 million, with a maximum of 979 theaters. The Meddler, an SPC film, grossed only $4.3 million, at a maximum of 464 theaters.
They both got the same level of reception, were considered crowdpleasers, and were targeting the exact same audience, and yet one was a modest success, while the other is completely forgotten. I know that release date plays a big factor for these films and how many theaters and screens they're able to get, but I still think Meddler could have done better under a different studio.
Better yet, a good chunk of SPC's recent English-language films could have garnered more success under different distributors. An Education could have tripled its gross under Focus, as would Whiplash under Fox Searchlight. I'd even argue Still Alice would have made a touch more under Focus or Weinstein (back in 2015 of course)
In short, SPC needs better campaigners, new management, or at the very least just stick to foreign-language films.

Blockers | April 6, 2018 | Leslie Mann, John Cena, Ike Barinholtz | Getting great reactions at SXSW
in Box Office Discussion
Posted
SXSW Comedy Premieres (or at least comedy films similar to Blockers):
Bridesmaids
21 Jump Street
The Incredible Burt Wonderstone
Neighbors
Get Hard
Spy
Trainwreck
Keanu
Sausage Party
So that's 7 out of 9 good movies in the bunch. A shame that only two of them were bad, because if one more movie was bad, we would have gotten 6:9. A good ratio, a fine ratio. I'd even say it would be a nice ratio, wouldn't you say so, Mr. @aabattery?
