The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo
Eric Prime replied to grim22's topic in Numbers and Data
I agree with you on that though. I'd say Homecoming/Man of Steel is the floor for this at the moment. -
You know that I have the biggest crush on Timmy, but I think he's in the wrong for signing up for the new Allen joint. Yeah, he's a young actor who needs work and to build his resume, but even before Me Too, Dylan Farrow's articles and pieces were still fresh and relevant. You would think Chalamet's agent would tell him to do a double take.

The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

I know seeing such a massive headline is amazing, and I hope for the best for this movie, but it should be noted that Civil War came out two years ago. Presales and advance tickets are continuously growing, so it's not a completely accurate comparison when it's this far apart when it comes to opening weekends. Just saying this, because I don't want people to go all "This made less than IM3's OW? FLOP!" -

The fact Brendan Fraser will be wearing a cowboy hat throughout the entire show pretty much ensures this will be better than the Scott joint.

Evening Update: Paddington 39 2252 1.73% Proud Mary 107 1845 5.80% The Commuter 7 2318 0.30% Fifty Shades 221 1921 11.50% Black Panther 351 2176 16.13% Proud Mary saw a dramatic increase, with most of it coming from its Friday show. Maybe it's because of my area, but this could be in for a breakout. Cookie Monster, her POWAH! And of course, Black Panther saw a big growth. -

Theater Update: Paddington 4 2252 0.18% Proud Mary 12 1845 0.65% The Commuter 0 2318 Fifty Shades 211 1921 10.98% Black Panther 196 2176 9.01% Paddington, Proud Mary, The Commuter, and Black Panther are based off of their 4-Day weekends. Paddington and Proud Mary have the above-average auditoriums, but for some masochistic reason The Commuter is getting the largest auditorium this weekend. Also, there's no Post. -
It was surrounded by major kid competition (Scooby-Doo, Lilo and Stitch), and while the show was popular, it wasn't a cultural phenomenon on the level of Rugrats or a massive breakthrough success like Spongebob. It also didn't help that it was essentially a TV movie plastered on the big screen at the last second, which almost never guarantees massive success, and there was some internal conflict going on between the creator and Nickelodeon.

Premise: Jumanji transforms itself into an app. It becomes a huge bestseller, and everyone downloads it. It starts out completely normal without anyone being sucked in. The kids from the last movie learn about the app, and try to warn people about what it could do. Nobody listens, and it's too late, and the all the people with the app get sucked into Jumanji. Therefore, it's up to the kids from the last movie to turn back into their avatars and save the day. There's two ways you can do this: The first, more likely way, would be to have the people from the real world turn into their own unique avatars. This allows more starpower like Channing Tatum or Emma Stone to join the party. The other, and the more fun one, would be having the real world people turn into one of the four avatars from the last movie. Having one Johnson, Hart, and Black in a movie was already great. But having hundreds, thousands, millions of Johnsons, Harts, and Blacks running around the jungle, each with unique personalities and tropes, will be an easy sell to put in all of the advertising. Of course, if Johnson's too busy with filming other movies and preparing his presidential campaign, they'll probably go for the first option, and have the kid who turned into Johnson have some subplot with the remaining denizens on Earth.

WrathOfHan's Controversial 2018 Box Office Predictions
Eric Prime replied to WrathOfHan's topic in Box Office Discussion
IMDB Summary A couple off for a romantic weekend in the mountains are accosted by a bike gang. Alone in the mountains, Brea and John must defend themselves against a gang, who will stop at nothing to protect their secrets. Well, that's certainly a genre shift. -

That One Guy Grades His 2018 Predictions
Eric Prime replied to That One Girl's topic in Box Office Discussion
Because it's fun and interesting to compare and contrast preconceptions and postconceptions of box office grosses. I would have done the same, but Han and TOG are better at it (I'm clueless on OW/legs), and I already am doing a list of my own with the "Wins & Fails" thing. -
I just saw an ad for Hostiles that said it's going wide on January 19th....why?

If those are supposed to be the smart kids, I don’t want to know what the other kids are into.
