Don’t know if this is his last last movie, but it will be bittersweet to hear his voice in this now.

That one is easily the worst, so it’s what she deserves. I know there are people here who love it, but even if you are just here for the monster action, I can’t see the appeal when everything is pitch black and full of thunderstorms, so you can’t see shit. Just an ugly looking movie in general. GvK is flawed as hell, but at least I could see what I was looking at.

Honestly, if they just kept the airport fight, the reception of the movie would have done a total 180. It justifies the build-up we got, we have a cool action scene midway to keep the audience avoiding restless, and the climax is still satisfactory. Just not cutting to news footage would have made things so much better. Jaws still showed the shark eating the tourists. If they cut away to news footage and a kid watching on TV, people would not regard it as the classic it is.

I mean it still did well above the mid-30s most here expected, and the focus on the original cast as the main hook was arguably a detriment. The audience who would care don’t go to the theaters anymore, and Afterlife emphasized the new cast and Stranger Things vibes to bring in new, younger crowds. I doubt a third movie would do well, but this is fine enough imo.

Saw the sneak peek after the Ex Machina re-release. It was basically the first few minutes of the movie. Was dogging on the whole thing for a bit, but it was honestly pretty damn effective. Bit of an awkward end of the clip, where they clearly cut before they showed a big reveal. But hey. It looked good. Made me interested.

Isn't this an anthology movie? That would probably hinder a lot of awards chances right there. So putting it as a specialty summer offering/box office play like Asteroid City with maybe a Cannes premiere makes a lot of sense to me.
