  1. ya know at least for like Wreck-It Ralph 2 they were shamelessly self-promoting stuff kids know and care about. What 7 year old will be like "wow, I can't believe Westeros and Fred Flintstone is in this!"
  2. I don't think that's entirely fair here. A 36% leap in just one month seems like a pretty strong increase to me, especially for a service that started out pretty rocky, though admittedly it is hard to do comparisons from month to month with this kind of stuff. And since December, we've only had one subscriber update in January and nothing else since then. Not really a good sample to definitively say the day-and-date strategy isn't working. And just judging by the iOS charts, where HBO Max is currently #1, ahead of YouTube and TikTok and whatnot, it seems like people are eager to watch this movie both at home and in theaters. I'd prefer to wait until the next subscriber update before saying Max isn't gaining much from this strategy. This is CJohn. He's always doing a dumb bit. Just let him do his thing and he'll tire himself out eventually
  3. While I feel it would have done well in normal times, I feel like a good chunk of the buzz for this is just its timing. It's the first crowdpleasing major tentpole release in over a year, coming out just when the two biggest markets in the country went back up, at a time when cases are going down (well, kind of) and vaccinations are rising up. Obviously it's not the only reason, but being first does have its advantages
  4. Moderation @marveldcfox has been threadbanned for one week for instigating a fanboy war. If you guys can’t be nice when discussing this monster movie for children, you will face consequences
  5. I marathoned through all the major Kong movies (except King Kong Lives because it wasn't streaming everywhere...probably for good reason), and I was really floored at the visuals in the 1933 film. There's so much creativity in the use of stop motion and green screens and the way they cut corners that it's still pretty solid and creative stuff even today.
