Well, I’ve got a lot of lists to look through. Thank you to everyone who sent in a list. It’s been a lot of fun seeing how the competition has stacked up over the last couple months and it’s looking like a really fun, really exciting list all around. However, if you forgot to send in something, or didn’t have time to see one more movie, don’t fret! I can and will accept late submissions, up until I actually start the list. This is going to take a while to compile and I’ll have to check and recheck the data a few times, so it may take a while. But good things come to those who wait. Either way, thanks for being part of the countdown, and I can’t wait to reveal the final answers very soon.

Very tempted to bring my mom, since she loves Emma Stone, loves seeing the Oscar contenders, and would love the themes and story and character. But I also know its concept and style would still be too much for her. It's a tough conundrum.

Okay, maybe this could get close to The Favourite after all, if Searchlight plays its cards right. Even in a depressed market compared to 2018, this would still be incredible for something so unconventional and off-putting.

Understandable, but also important to recognize that Soul released in a time when there was little out for theaters to play in those markets, which made it easier to leg out. Soul was going to drop a week before Top Gun: Maverick, and two weeks before Minions 2. Who knows how much they would have made in 2020, but they were both certainly set to be some of the biggest movies of that year. And Minions was direct competition. Not saying they all couldn't coexist, but they would have for sure dented Soul a bit.

The storm isn't really affecting my area outside of cold winds. I've dealt with worse.

It probably would have, but I remember there were a lot of people thinking 400+ and stuff on the back of Pete Docter's name. I was even one of them. But I think numbers similar to Ratatouille sound about right in a no-COVID world, because Soul is honestly a bit too adult for a Disney movie. Not a bad thing, I like the movie, but the film's super existential about the ideas of life and death, with a major subplot being about a grown adult stressing over whether he should take a job with benefits or not. This stuff will not resonate with 8 year olds. You can argue Up was able to do fine with a lot of the same themes, but that also had a cute kid sidekick and a talking dog and fun jungle adventure and all the other things that make it fun for kids. The baby souls are cute, but not really as marketable as Dug. There's a reason why Luca and especially Turning Red are frequently on the Disney+ Trending page, while Soul never charts at all.

Cool. I still think it’s annoying and I think this forum would be a million times better if we went away from this insipid practice where some movie becomes the new whipping boy and we endlessly go on and on and on about how much of a failure it is. Offers nothing of value and is beyond irritating.

A lot of y’all’s obsession with The Marvels bombing is getting pretty darn old if you ask me. And weird.
