The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo
Eric Quinn replied to grim22's topic in Numbers and Data
Moderation Guys, the discussion on budgets and whether some movies look better than others has no place in this thread. If you want to argue with one another, do it in PMs or something. -

@CJ #BringBackSadAffleck is saved. May you use his sorrow for mirth.

I know I have my biases, but in its old December '20 date, I strongly believed in Tron: Legacy numbers, both in opening and total, was a decent possibility for this, even though everybody else said otherwise. The starrier cast would have also probably helped the movie perform better OS than Tron too. 450-500M WW would be stunning for a franchise starter like this, and with it supposed to reach 300M now, where everybody else was saying it would never reach, I don't think we should just go all "oh it's not that great" for this.

Oh we're not doing this revisionist stuff here. All of y'all were saying this was going to be a megabomb of epic proportions. Everybody was saying that the film was doomed forever because of HBO Max. But now despite all the stuff going against it, we're suddenly about to poo-poo on an opening that most of y'all would say would be above average pre-pandemic? I know part of the reason is because the legs will be nonexistent (seriously, Jason Kilar has no excuse to make Dune and Matrix exceptions), but give me a break.

ARE YOU TALKING TO ME? There’s a lot to say about Martin Scorsese and his immense body of work that I don’t know where to start. Since 1967, the man has tackled tough, fascinating subjects one after the other. His films encompass Italian-Americanism, Catholicism, faith, guilt, crime, corruption, machismo, the working class, and much more. Even his lesser films are so densely detailed and are cherished by millions. To say nothing of his immense passion for cinema, creating several nonprofits dedicated to film preservation and restoration. And he has been rewarded for his contributions to the medium, with several Academy Award nominations, a Palme D’Or, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a Kennedy Center Honor, and a whole bunch of other accolades to count. But of course, none are as prestigious as a countdown list from Box Office Theory. After the Spielberg countdown went off without a hitch, it’s time to look over another man who has redefined modern cinema and moviemaking. Again, your job is a simple one. PM me your rankings of your favorite Martin Scorsese movies. From Who’s That Knocking at My Door all the way to The Irishman. But while the task is simple, there are a few things I need to clear up: Not everything Scorsese has ever done will qualify for this list. His 25 narrative feature films he has solely directed are allowed, as are 10 of his documentaries. Films he only produced or executive produced don’t count, nor do TV shows like Boardwalk Empire nor his short films. Films he solely acted in, like Kurosawa’s Dreams will not be eligible, or films he solely edited like 1970’s Woodstock are also out. People know him as a director, and I want to give you guys less movies to worry about, I’m also excluding New York Stories for the same reason I excluded Twilight Zone: The Movie from the Spielberg countdown. Scorsese only directed one segment in the movie, I want to give you guys one less movie to worry about, and Woody Allen makes me want to die. These are the movies you can put on your list 1. Who’s That Knocking at My Door 2. Boxcar Bertha 3. Mean Streets 4. Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore 5. Italianamerican 6. Taxi Driver 7. New York, New York 8. The Last Waltz 9. American Boy: A Profile of Steven Prince 10. Raging Bull 11. The King of Comedy 12. After Hours 13. The Color of Money 14. The Last Temptation of Christ 15. Goodfellas 16. Cape Fear 17. The Age of Innocence 18. A Personal Journey Through American Movies with Martin Scorsese 19. Casino 20. Kundun 21. My Voyage to Italy 22. Bringing Out the Dead 23. Gangs of New York 24. The Aviator 25. No Direction Home: Bob Dylan 26. The Departed 27. Shine a Light 28. Shutter Island 29. Public Speaking 30. George Harrison: Living in the Material World 31. Hugo 32. The Wolf of Wall Street 33. Silence 34. Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese 35. The Irishman If your list has a movie not in this pool, I will ask you to change your list accordingly. 2. To allow your list to go through, you are required to send it through PM, whether here on the forums or on Telegram. This makes the process of tallying the votes much easier for me to follow. You are more than free to share your list in this thread, and I strongly encourage people to, as well as FYC the Scorsese titles you love. However, if you want it to count, you have to send it through PM. No exceptions! 3. I don’t expect people to put every movie onto their list, and that’s totally okay. The minimum number I will ask for your list is 10. However, I strongly encourage people to see as many Scorsese movies as possible, both to make the rankings and lists stronger and more accurate, but also so people can see some of his films that do not have the same cultural reverence as Goodfellas or Wolf of Wall Street. So don’t be lazy. 4. If you are wondering where you can find some of these movies, the best place to look is on the website JustWatch.com. It’s an excellent database on where to find the best places and deals to stream any movie. 5. I’m also aware that Scorsese’s docs are somewhat hard to find, especially compared to his narrative work, and might not get a lot of votes. However, because some will be curious to watch them, I might as well include them. If they do not get any votes, they will simply not appear in the countdown. Likewise, if they only see a couple of submissions/points, I will just slot them in under an honorable mention. 6. Voting will continue from now until November 28, 2021 @ 11:59 PM. You have until Thanksgiving weekend basically to catch up on the films you missed. The countdown should begin shortly after. Scoring Number 1. 10 points Number 2. 9 Points Numbers 3 - 5. 8 Points Numbers 6 - 8. 7 Points 9 - 10. 6 Points 11 - 12. 5 Points 13 - 18. 4 Points 19 - 24. 3 Points 25 - 30. 2 Points 31 - 35. 1 Points Have fun!

Eternals Greater Philadelphia Area Seat Report T-14 and Counting Sellouts Showings Seats Sold Total Seats Perct Sold TOTALS 0 59 1576 11921 13.22% Total Seats Sold Today: 46 Comp 0.852x of Black Widow T-14 (11.24M) 1.777x of Shang-Chi T-14 (15.64M) I mean it probably would have gone down after the reaction hype died down, but it's still a wee bit too low for my taste. -
