  2. Yep. It's also an issue where WB has never done a great job keeping them fresh and relevant for today's kids, especially after Back in Action bombed. You look at Disney, and there's always a Mickey Mouse cartoon airing for preschoolers to indoctrinate them young, those new Paul Rudish shorts aired on Disney Channel all the time, Mickey toys and merch is always on the shelf. WB had a good thing going in the 90s, gangsta flava and all, but now you get like one new reboot every couple years that come and go after 1 or 2 seasons, and now the franchise is largely stuck in a walled garden of a streaming serivce that is nowhere near as popular or successful as Disney's walled garden of a streaming service. Maybe they need to follow the 90s playbook and make Taz and Porky trap/Soundcloud rappers.
  3. The director of this also did those Looney Tunes shorts that debuted on HBO Max a couple years back, which are AMAZING, so I'm excited for this. Neat-o that this isn't a straight-to-HBO Max release too. Good on them, even though I don't know how much pull Looney Tunes has with today's kids.
  4. I mean it was three movies for the longest time, but then when the first movie dropped, they announced it would be five. Even back in 2016, I was skeptical on that idea, and I'm still confused what the goal was or why they did it. Were they just spooked by the bad reviews for BvS and Suicide Squad and needed a bigger safety net? It's dumb.
  5. Been thinking for a while this had the chance to be the biggest movie of the holidays. I don’t think it will make Frozen or Zootopia numbers, and maybe it’s just my social circle which is biased towards Disney Adults/animation fans, but it’s been getting the strongest promo I’ve seen for an original Disney animated movie since probably Moana, even getting a boost from Disney 100/Once Upon a Studio stuff. It also helps that this is taking from the most successful, most iconic, most loved form of a “Disney movie”. Princesses, castles, catchy songs, cute sidekicks, the whole nine yards. Just need that good ol' 85% on Rotten Tomatoes and a bunch of "Disney does it again" review quotes, and we're golden. There’s even kind of a nostalgia effect going on where the kids that saw Tangled and Frozen back then are now old enough where they can go all “OMG MY CHILDHOOD” for a Disney movie that’s just like what they saw as kids...that feels very weird to write.
  6. I mean Universal has done the exact same playbook. Sing had sneak previews on the opening Saturday of Moana, Sing 2 on the opening Saturday of Encanto, Puss in Boots 2 the opening Saturday of Strange World. It's a free country, so why not copy the competition and play dirty right back?

  8. Ted Lasso is hilarious to me. Not the show itself, because I only saw the pilot. It’s my parents’ favorite show at the moment and when I mentioned that I heard the newer seasons are trash, they were baffled why somebody would say that. This was the same case with Game of Thrones’ last season. All I saw online was people complaining about how awful it was, but my parents couldn’t stop raving about it and thought all the complaints were nonsense. Was a real whiplash moment every Monday for me lmao
  9. Moderation ZattMurdock has been threadbanned for three days for ad hominem and straw man attacks, and consistent detailing of the thread. Please move along.
  10. Moderation I have no idea what Zatt/Bob Train are talking about here, but it seems things are testy yet again. End it here.
  11. But Little Mermaid...was a big hit? It was the highest-grossing animated movie ever on its initial release, ignoring movies that got re-released a ton like Snow White/101 Dalmatians/Jungle Book. It's of course overshadowed by stuff like Lion King and Beauty and the Beast a couple years later, but a record like that counts for something.

  13. Moderation We’re done with this interrogation over whether Shindaya has actually seen the movie or not. It makes no sense to gang up on somebody over this. It’s just a movie. Please move on.
  14. Anybody can make a weekday thread. Nobody just feels compelled to do so at the moment. Not sure why.
