  1. It's definitely fascinating to think how Disney+ was viewed as Daddy Iger's most crowning achievement, yet it arguably killed their entire film division in one foul swoop and I'm sure there's tons of regrets over this. COVID obviously didn't help here, but now you're forcing all these film executives to oversee a bunch of TV shows, making it harder for everybody to look over things in regards to quality control and marketing campaign, then you have to also deal with the fact that most consumers know that they can just wait a few months to watch it for free, which hurts all other forms of revenue. Even if COVID never happened, this would still more than likely be our outcome. I know the service is set to be profitable by the end of the year, but was it really worth all the other losses that came from it?

I have been tracking this stuff every day, but I have been so busy with modding and work and personal stuff that it's hard to remember to post this stuff. Especially since even tracking two movies takes a good chunk out of my day. By the time I'm done with work, I have to move immediately to tracking movies. This is basically a long-winded way of me saying that after The Flash is done, I'm taking a hiatus from tracking Philly. It's just becoming more and more of a chore lately and I need some time away from it for a while.
  4. Moderation Not the Star Wars/Last Jedi thread. Please.
  5. Sadly no. Seems like a totally new poster. But I very much doubt they will last long on this forum at all.
  6. Please don't feed the troll. Don't eat his bait.
  7. I'm not saying Barbie's gonna do bad, but I think the whole "social media is bigger now" thing doesn't really track. Minions 2 performed like most of the other Despicable Me movies. M3GAN's opening and gross wasn't all that atypical for an original horror title. And even Cocaine Bear, which was lauded as this huge success story bolstered by TikTok memes, its opening was only $2 million more than Snakes on a Plane if you adjust for 2006 dollars. Just feels like in hindsight, the whole "wow TikTok is such a huge influence!" doesn't really track much.
  8. This actually makes me feel like the whole "Disney movies lost their audience because DeSantis/Republicans" doesn't really hold much weight. Because that audience sector doesn't even go to the movies anymore anyways? Like moviegoing skews young, nonwhite, and more towards urban/metropolitan areas, all of which typically skew more left and Democrat. So they are the people who aren't typically into those gross Nazi tactics. Really, I'm in the camp that it's because Disney has the second-biggest streaming service on the planet and everybody knows they will be home in a couple months. And frankly, even if you put out the window for 6 months or more, I still don't think that's enough to shake that issue. Iger made his bed and now he has to live with it.
  9. Movie theater owners looking over the crowds last Memorial Day
  10. Caucasian shares have actually been down across the board post-COVID, to the point where most big movies typically have their shares in the 30% range. Using this year's top 10 biggest openings (which I know, it's still early, blah blah blah) 1. Mario: 30% white 2. Guardians 3: 41% 3. Ant-Man 3: 34% 4. Little Mermaid: 26% 5. John Wick 4: 32% 6. Fast X: 29% 7. Creed 3: 21% 8. Scream VI: 38% 9. Dungeons and Dragons: 48% 10. M3GAN: 37% And if you want to see last year's... Doctor Strange 2: 35% white Black Panther 2: 20% Jurassic World 3: 41% Thor 4: 39% Avatar 2: 33% The Batman: 41% Top Gun 2: 66% Minions 2: 35% Sonic 2: 29% Black Adam: 25% Spider-Man 3: 32% white Venom 2: 40% Black Widow: 46% Shang-Chi: 36% Eternals: 51% F9: 35% No Time to Die: 52% Halloween Kills: 38% A Quiet Place 2: 44% Ghostbusters Afterlife: 48% Using some pre-COVID openings... Avengers Endgame: 44% white The Lion King: 42% Star Wars 9: 56% Captain Marvel: 47% Frozen 2: 52% Toy Story 4: 49% Joker: 44% Spider-Man 2: 43% Aladdin: 42% It 2: 47% No Way Home losing 11% share from Far from Home is pretty extreme, while John Wick 3 had 42%, then 4 years later loses 10% of white viewers. That's a lot! The farther you go back, the harder it is to find race OW demos, but Sonic 1 had 42%, Black Panther had 35%, Ant-Man 2 was 51%, Creed 2 was 38%. I'm sure Beauty and the Beast was 40s, probably even more 50s. There is definitely a huge chunk of Caucasian audiences that just never show up for the movies anymore, which means that any gains from OS from casting a white Ariel, where Disney gets less money from, is offset by a lower DOM total.
  11. Moderation We're done with this "are the dwarfs in Snow White offensive" argument. If you still want to fight, do it through PMs.
  12. Guys, this is not even remotely true. If you check Wikipedia for five seconds, there’s an actor for Grumpy listed. Said actor also confirmed this. Please do research before you jump to conclusions. Thank you! https://collider.com/snow-white-cast-martin-klebba-grumpy-live-action-disney/
  13. It will be hilarious when Mission Impossible only does like 250M and everybody melts down because it didn’t do a bajillion dollars. Like…you’re setting yourself up for disappointment
  14. I agree on all accounts. And the way people are dodging this obvious issue is gross. (Like Torontofan’s post below mine) But your post was off-topic and going to cause derailments and fights and we don’t need that here. We have already said everything that needs to be said in regards to how racism impacted Little Mermaid’s box office and bringing it up again won’t lead to anything productive. I know you may be disappointed, but that’s just the way it is. And as always, remember that we’re not the only place on the Internet where you can talk about Little Mermaid and its box office.
  15. Because it will start petty fights and flame wars that we don’t need. We have already discussed how racism has impacted the movie’s performance already and have had to lock this thread once yesterday. We don’t need to do it again.
  16. Disney movies always have the Disney/Pixar logo on top of the movie title. Those movies air all the time and are promoted all the time on Disney Channel. The trailers and ads always say "From the people who brought you Frozen/Toy Story/Inside Out". They clearly push these movies to make sure you know they have the Disney name on them. Hell, animation studios have always emphasized the studio that makes them as a brand name. Dreamworks does this, Illumination does this. People know what's a Disney and what's not. I do agree the issue is that original animation doesn't sell (remember, only nostalgic toy commercials make money now), but the whole "nobody knows what's Disney or not" holds no water.

  18. Okay, time to unlock things. And to make sure everybody's in the loop on everything here. No, racism isn't the sole entire reason TLM is underperforming in certain territories. But to say that it isn't a factor or using some "well why aren't you supporting our movies" strawman argument that has literally nothing to do with the conversation is blatantly trying to hide from the facts and ignore a legit serious issue. An issue that is prominent throughout the entire world. It can hurt to see people call out your country, and at times seem unfair for understandable reasons. But this kind of stuff only derails conversations and makes things unbearable for everybody. Now that that's out of the way, we are done talking about whether this country is more racist than this country, the "beauty standards" of certain countries, any and all reasons why Halle should not have played Ariel, and so on. We have said absolutely said everything that needs to be said in this regard and there is nothing more to add. So we have to move on. And if you cannot move on, you will be threadbanned instantly. No exceptions. If you have any problems with this whatsoever, you can either explain why in my PMs or simply go somewhere else. As I love to mention again and again, and I will always mention until I am dead and buried into the ground, if you don't like a forum and/or how it's run, then find another place that fits you better. We are not the only place on the entire Internet where you can talk about the box office and Little Mermaid in particular, so why hang around a place you don't care for?
  19. Wakanda Forever was only 20% white, so this is an improvement. Really, it’s just that post-pandemic, white moviegoers have seen big declines. Creed 3 was also 21% white, though that is obviously a much smaller opening. https://deadline.com/2022/11/box-office-black-panther-wakanda-forever-1235169891/ https://deadline.com/2023/03/box-office-creed-iii-michael-b-jordan-2-1235277748/
  20. Moderation @Jeight has been threadbanned for 24 hours for defending an abuser for some petty Marvel vs. DC bull crap. Speaking of, we’re done with this “Blank killed DC” crap too. You guys know DC isnt “dead” whatsoever, and are clearly just doing this to start a fight, especially y’all being coy with Zack Snyder, and it’s not funny. You all know this is going to end badly, it has been for years and years, so is it worth doing all this to make fun of some silly kids movies? No. So please do me a favor and act like adults.
  21. Ehhh. This does have Hugh Laurie, but Cruella did it better
