  1. Moderation @SpiderByte If you continue this any further, you are going to leave me with no choice but to threadban you. You starting a fight against others for daring to be negative on a Marvel movie, derailing threads in the process, isn't funny and super old. This applies to everybody else here as well.
  2. I am very, very curious to see how Spider-Verse and Flash perform in a couple months. If those also do poorly (not impossible!), then we might have to consider Ant-Man 3 the Heaven's Gate of the superhero industrial complex. And I don't think that film will get any reevaluations after the fact.

  5. I mean obviously I wasn't expecting Air to make 200M, but I think 70M+ wasn't out of reach pre-pandemic for an easy crowdpleaser with a big ensemble cast and an easy hook. 10 years ago, you had American Hustle, Lone Survivor, The Butler, and Captain Phillips all making 100M. And between 70-100M, you had 42, Saving Mr. Banks, Safe Haven. Even Great Gatsby can be thrown in there, though that of course is based off an iconic book. And 5 years ago, even if you take out stuff like A Star is Born or BoRap, there was The Mule, Green Book, and I Can Only Imagine (and I guess also Creed 2/Fifty Shades 3, though of course iconic franchises). All these movies, if they dropped today, would have only grossed 55M at best, and more likely just 25-30M. That's what I'm getting at here.
  6. Not true. Shang-Chi did the same thing and Eternals likewise. I saw Shang-Chi at a free screening in fact. Though yes, there is something to say that this is the first time they have done this strategy since Eternals.
  7. Great movie. If you guys want a quality anarchic film that's all about how much the man sucks, this is the film to check out. This. Music biopics like Elvis or BoRap are basically a "prestige" version of every other nostalgia-driven blockbuster that comes out today. They're designed to sell you on big, flashy concert scenes and loud surround sound to get you in the theater, as well as taking a popular artist you listened to when you were younger and tap into all those nostalgic memories you had listening to it on your cassette/CD/iPod. "Hey, remember when you listened to Elvis with your parents? Well, you can listen to it again and see a movie that is basically like going to a flashy concert!" The Elvis trailers using snippets of Unchained Melody/Suspicious Minds is basically the same nostalgia pandering as when the new Little Mermaid trailers use Part of Your World as their big selling point. People obviously have a fondness for Nike and Michael Jordan, but Air isn't flashy and is mainly just conversations and business negotiations. Which I mean I love, but sadly isn't enough for today's auds anymore.
  8. I know this is kind of sad to say, but Air's in a new box office world where House of Gucci numbers are the ceiling for movies like these. So close to that film and over the 50M threshold is just a victory we have to accept now. 🤷‍♂️

  11. I was there on day 1. Main reason I liked Endgame more than Infinity War was that they weren't trying to make Thanos seem "deep". All the hoops they tried to do to make Thanos' plan sound "relatable" in IW was just silly.

  13. No. You can defend if you want to. Just don't do the hyperbole you were doing before, don't start fights against people who are being negative, and so on. It's not what you say, it's how you say it.
