  1. Moderation @marveldcfox has been threadbanned for one week for instigating a fanboy war. If you guys can’t be nice when discussing this monster movie for children, you will face consequences
  2. I marathoned through all the major Kong movies (except King Kong Lives because it wasn't streaming everywhere...probably for good reason), and I was really floored at the visuals in the 1933 film. There's so much creativity in the use of stop motion and green screens and the way they cut corners that it's still pretty solid and creative stuff even today.

  5. Oh wow. It's really sad to say this, but I think our friendships have to be revoked On the other hand, you guys are now my best friends.
  6. Godzilla vs. Kong Greater Philadelphia Area Seat Report Final Count (Wednesday) Sellouts Showings Seats Sold Total Seats Perct Sold TOTALS 63 83 3877 4426 87.60% Total Showings Added Today: 13 Total Seats Added Today: 377 Total Sellouts Added Today: 13 Total Seats Sold Today: 969 Think I said this before, but this is a movie that is dinged hard by the capacity limits. Maybe this means the film will be leggy, but it could also mean people might just have to deal with Max to get their Zilly/Kong action. We'll have to wait and see I guess
  7. One of the best things about Easter time is seeing the DVD for Hop suddenly appear in all the bargain bins for like $5 and then disappearing immediately after the holiday is over. I was actually at Target yesterday, and the Hop DVD was right inbetween Peter Cottontail and Peter Rabbit. Not even the James Corden one, but some random Peter Rabbit movie with the Nickelodeon logo slapped on it.
  8. ONE WILL FALL So...been a while since I’ve done one of these, huh? Last time I did this kind of snazzy introduction for a weekend was all the way back in Labor Day, when we all assumed Tenet would put the box office back on track and everything would be totally fine. But fast forward about seven months later and everything has changed. As it turns out, Warner and Disney have emphasized streaming over theatrical exhibition, while the only thing keeping AMC Theaters afloat are memelords who decided to rig the stock market. And despite some people acting like they know what will exactly happen, the future of theatrical exhibition is both incredibly hazy and very vulnerable, even after this pandemic is over. But hey, at least we finally have one new event movie we can all get excited for. The grand and epic finale to the very spotty, yet passionately defended Monsterverse, Godzilla vs. Kong has seen incredible hype ever since its trailer debut, solely on the title itself. We all thought the showdown of the century would be between Freddy and Jason. Some thought it would be between. Batman and Superman. Others thought it was between Papa Nolan and Papa Feige. But instead, the actual showdown of the century is two incredible titans duking it out for monster supremacy. Sure enough, everybody on Film Twitter has placed their bets on who will come out on top. Will it be the stupid, smelly lizard? Or will it be the almighty and powerful King? In Asian and Oceanic territories, people are lining up across the block to see the showdown of the century, with the film’s international opening tallying up to $123.1 million, the largest overseas opening for any movie in these pandemic times. All that’s left to know is whether or not this movie will land here in America. The US has yet to come back into the swing of things, but it very well could be that people were just waiting for the right movie at the right time. Whether this lands or not will certainly impact the distribution strategies for almost all the upcoming titles in the next few months. And while things look good opening-wise going by presales in the Tracking Thread, stranger things have happened. Either way, let’s just all hope for the best and enjoy the brawl of the century while it's here. But before we get things started, you all have some rules to follow. 1. ABSOLUTELY NO SPOILER. NOT EVEN SPOILERS POSTED UNDER SPOILER TAGS. This rule is applied to all weekend threads, but it's especially true for this weekend. This is the battle of the century, and people want to go in knowing as little as possible. And sadly, because this pandemic is still a bitch and a half, not everybody will have a chance to see it right away. So please be careful about what you say. This also applies to other movies in theaters and films/shows releasing on streaming or VOD. So no Nobody spoilers, no Raya and the Last Dragon spoilers, no Snyder Cut spoilers, no Falcon and the Winter Soldier spoilers, etc. You are free to give general opinions, but try to avoid going into any further detail. If you do spoil something here, you will be banned. No exceptions. Don't be a dick. 2. KEEP YOUR AGENDA OUT OF HERE....KIND OF. We get it. Movie theaters are dead forever. Everybody predicting the end of theatrical business is an idiot. Streaming is a disease. Woke critics don't understand real movies. Marvel is the greatest film series ever created and all other franchises are below it. Disney/Marvel is destroying cinema and Kevin Feige/Bob Chapek/Kathleen Kennedy is the spawn of Satan. Warner Bros. is destroying cinemas with their HBO Max deal. James Cameron is the true king of the box office. Yadda yadda yadda. There's a time and place for these kinds of statements...actually, there isn't. But at the very least, it doesn't belong here. If you want to start these beefs related to all of these dumb children's movies, go somewhere else. This website would be so much better off with that bullshit gone in the first place. If you do this kind of stuff here, you will be banned. No exceptions. Not gonna name names, but you know who you are. Don't be a dick. However, you may have noticed the addendum. We are loosening the rules just a bit this weekend, but for one thing and one thing only. There’s been a few posts lately, including from yours truly, that have pushed a rivalry between two factions of fans. Team Kong, Team Godzilla. And it’s been fun to do this, as it seems people here aren’t taking this seriously and just having good fun with the whole thing. So for this weekend, we will let people do this kind of playful ribbing and team arguments. Especially since there's not much else to talk about nowadays at the box office. Emphasis on playful of course. If you go too far, you will get warning points. Basically just...you know...don’t be a dick. 3. CURB YOUR POLITICS. In threads like these, politics often spring up for literally no reason. And straight up, politics just aren’t fun to talk about. So unless it’s truly relevant to the conversation...no. Don't be a dick. 4. THE REPORT AND IGNORE BUTTONS ARE YOUR FRIENDS. See a post that’s breaking the rules? DO NOT RESPOND TO IT. Just hit the Report button, give an explanation to the problem, including the context, then hit "Submit". We the mods will determine the post and see if it's breaking the rules and give out repercussions. See a poster that's consistently being annoying? Then just highlight their name and click "Ignore User" on the pop-up. It'll save lives and hopefully cause less of an uproar or infighting. While trolls are already bad, responding to them only makes it worse. So again...Don't be a dick. 5. IS OFF-TOPIC DISCUSSION OKAY? Well...yes and no. We want people to stick to box office numbers as best as they can. However, there are plenty of dead periods of time with no new numbers, and other discussions will surge. And honestly, things will probably be real boring this weekend from a numbers perspective. So off-topic discussions are okay to have, so long as they don't impede numbers discussion. So if there's no action, and you want to talk about your favorite Easter movies, argue whether Better Call Saul or Breaking Bad is better, or show off the ceramic vases you made, that's totally fine. Just remember that when the numbers come up to keep those discussions down to a minimum. Keep on doing that, and it becomes a chore for many who just want to know the numbers. Don't. Be. A. Dick. And lastly... 6. DON'T BE A DICK. Lately things have been pretty hostile around here. Whatever the reason may be, if you're not following any of these rules or are straight up not being nice, you're going to get the banhammer smashed onto you. Concern trolling? Banned. Revealing that Godzilla kills Dumbledore? Banned. Just posting something unpleasant or mean? Banned. And if you're unsure if you can handle being nice for one weekend, then, simply put, get out of here. You probably know what I'm gonna say next. TL;DR. No spoilers, no fanboy wars. Keep it nice, keep it neutral, don't attack others, and you'll be fine. If you don't do this stuff, you'll risk a threadban, a suspension, or even a permanent ban, so tread lightly. Outside of that, just have fun! And two last things, First off, this thread will likely lean into being more domestic-focused. If you want to know about how Godzilla vs. Kong is doing in other countries, look at the International section of the forums right here. The international thread solely dedicated to this movie is also available right here. Second, there’s no sale this weekend. This weekend thread kind of came up on short notice. However, we do encourage people here to donate to the forum and become members. Since the box office has been dead, we’ve seen a decline in donations, the thing that keeps these forums alive. And while we understand finances are tight for many here, we do encourage people to donate if they can, as every dollar helps keep the lights on and will make the forum bigger and better than ever once the industry is (hopefully) back in swing. And now... WITHOUT FURTHER ADO LET’S DO THIS SHIT
  9. Moderation Okay we're done here. We had our fun, but this inane critics discussion has come to an end. Cut your schtick, or I'm cutting you out of this thread
  10. I've been working on a mock schedule full of tentative dates for Disney/D+ content, and just judging by everything, I'm leaning more on Porthos' side. With the way things are ramping up in terms of SW stuff, they're probably going the Marvel route and have stuff back to back with only a week or two gaps. And just going by how production schedules seem to be lining up, we'll probably get something like this: Book of Boba Fett: December-February Andor: February-May Obi-Wan: May-June Don't know if Obi-Wan will premiere May 4 since I feel you can easily slot the Andor season finale there, but this seems like the big summer piece for the service. Things are kind of murky from there, but we do know Willow and Mando S3 are coming in '22, and I think there's still just enough room for one more show (Ahsoka/Acolyte/Bad Batch S2/Visions S2) on the calendar. Either way, just going by production start times and what's filming, Obi-Wan is definitely coming sooner rather than later
