  1. That's the problem though. My idea would work if this was an adult drama. But for a family movie based on one of the most famous animated movies of all time? Probably not. It's kind of this movie's big conundrum. With all the other Disney remakes, they all have something that appeals to kids. Even the Glenn Close movie has the doggos. I don't really see what makes this interesting to the family audience.
  2. If Disney asked me to make a Cruella movie, I think the best way to do it would be a cautionary tale/character study that sees her slowly dive into madness as she becomes obsessed with being on top in the cutthroat fashion industry and become more and more obsessed with vanity and capitalism. But of course, that's probably not as commercial as Disney would like. But hey, maybe they've got something up their sleeves.
  3. The big problem is that its premiere was in Paris. For most critics, especially here in the States, it's too far and too complicated to make the trip. I do believe London and the US are getting premieres in the coming weeks though, so reactions will probably continue to trickle in. Also, FWIW @ViewerAnon, while I don't think he's seen it, had word that the movie was fine about 6 or so months ago. It could very well just be a faulty source, but he's a credible enough guy with solid connections that I trust him (btw ViewerAnon, if you do have new info, drop it for us maybe?) You know Magnussen doesn't deserve this funnybook BS (minus Black Panther 2. Daddy Coogler behind it means it's art). Put him in Detective Pikachu 2.
  4. It could also just be some critics, at least here in the states, haven't been able to see it. I follow a bunch on Letterboxd, and at least of the ones I've seen, not one has put it down under "watched". It also only just had its premiere in Paris, which is not really the easiest place to get to for a lot of critics.
  5. The Agony sequence from Into the Woods is probably top 5 greatest musical numbers of all time.
  6. btw I'm not gonna do any upcoming movies until at least Thursday (even then that's a maybe). With four movies already on my plate for this week, I've already got a lot to talk about. So @Mulder don't pester me for those Gojira numbers Though you can take a look right here

Not amazing, but could have been worse. Pikachu comps: 33% of Incredibles 2 (59.7M) 128% of Ant-Man 2 (96.8M) 286% of Hotel Transylvania 3 (126.1M) 313% of Christopher Robin (77M) 157% of The Grinch (106.4M) 147% of Spider-Verse (52M) 421% of Bumblebee (91.2M) 185% of Lego Movie 2 (63.2M) 115% of Dragon 3 (63.1M) 165% of Dumbo (76.1M) Some slight alterations, but the range seems about 60-75M (minus some outliers). Whether or not that's good or bad is up to you. There's also arguably a 90-105M range, so...pick the one you like, I dunno. Poms comps: 29% of I Feel Pretty (4.7M) 36% of Life of the Party (6.5M) 30% of Book Club (4M) 27% of The Mule (4.7M) 77% of Second Act (5M) 118% of Marwen (2.8M) 33% of The Upside (6.7M) This feels destined to hit single digits at this point. Tolkien comps: 57% of BlacKkKlansman (6.2M) 69% of White Boy Rick (6.1M) 43% of First Man (6.9M) 45% of Widows (5.5M) So initially comps had it at 4M, but now it's closer to 6M. A sign of good things to come? Well, with those mediocre reviews, probably not.
  8. @TMP ok you can't "crib" my post, without putting respect on our greatest young actor
  9. Like its Rex Harrison counterpart, this feels destined to be a bomb for the ages (although maybe I'm being a bit too harsh here)
