  1. On the movie side, all the Pixar and WDAS announcements are gonna be exciting, but I'm probably most excited for the Wrinkle in Time movie. Everything I've heard about the movie makes it sound like it's gonna be something very special, so I can't wait to see the first footage. And as a scheduling nerd, I hope Disney updates their slate and reveals what the untiteld movies are and who gets what slot.

Haven't really paid close attention to the theme park stuff, but I know Star Wars Land is gonna be iconic, and there are rumors of some changes to Jungle Cruise, which definitely has me curious. Hopefully, it isn't just an animatronic of The Rock and nothing else.

  2. Apologies for going back to 1992, but this was just a fascinating trivia factoid I had to share. So I watched Basic Instinct for my Film Studies class last semester (for those wondering about my opinion, I thought it was overall pretty decent, although the film definitely loses some of its spark when Catherine Trammel isn't on screen), and my professor told my class that the film was originally released on DVD with an ice pick. A little weird for the studio releasing the DVD with a murder weapon, but it's a nice touch.

  3. I might be able to make that time, but Wednesday's when I get back from vacation and I have a lot of work to catch up on, so I could be swamped with stuff. We'll see.

Also, something that I think could be fun is to maybe have our movie nights be related to a movie coming out on the weekend. So this week we could watch one of the newest Apes movies or even the one from the 1960s. Then next week, we can see either a Nolan or Besson movie. Then the week after we watch John Wick or a Sony Animation movie. Etc. Not saying we have to, but it would be kinda cute.

  4. As time goes on, the more and more I think Meg has potential to really overperform. Both The Shallows and especially 47 Meters Down went above expectations and had really strong holds, and these were shark movies that were pretty cheap. So a big-budget shark movie has good potential to blow up, especially since there won't be much competition, outside of M:I 6 and Predator. I'm not completely 100% confident, especially since Jason Statham has never really been a good draw in the domestic box office, but I think it will easily cross the $100M mark.

So this weekend is shaping up to be a great one. All the hold overs are doing fantastic except for TF5(LOL). Spidey fever has taken over and looks like is here to stay. I leave for my trip to Malaysia tomorrow morning so sadly I will not see what the actuals are but I know Spider-man is going to hold well and out perform expectations.

    Go Spidey Go!

PS I need some good luck wishes. I'm gonna ask my girl friend to marry me while I'm on the trip so here's hoping she says yes

I can't give you a like (Blame Diana (and Steve) and her sexy legs) so take a GIF instead.

  7. Beauty and the Beast also had some significance within animation history. While Little Mermaid did become the first worldwide animated blockbuster, BatB became the first domestic animated blockbuster. Jeffrey Katzenberg, head of Disney Feature Animation at the time, believed Little Mermaid would break the $100M mark domestically and become an animated landmark. Mermaid, unfortunately, didn't hit that number, but it wasn't until two years later that Beast managed to do it, largely thanks to festival buzz and awards attention, as well as just being a fantastic film in its own right. Much like the other films in the Disney Renaissance, Beauty and the Beast was able to homage the animated classics of the past while also successfully modernizing the film for today's audiences (well, 1991's audiences, but you get the point). And of course, it soon became one of Disney's biggest franchises with massive home video and soundtrack sales, heavy theme park presence, two successful re-releases, a long-running Broadway musical and of course its recent live-action remake.

I liked it quite a bit as a kid, and much like Disney's other films it has aged like wine, getting better and better as time goes on, and is still one of my all-time favorites, both in animation and film in general.

In addition, the studio has dated the Brian Henson-directed comedy The Happytime Murders for Aug. 17, 2018.

Happytime Murders is set in the underbelly of Los Angeles where puppets and humans coexist. Two clashing detectives, one human (McCarthy) and one puppet, are forced to work together to try to find out who is brutally murdering the former cast of “The Happytime Gang,” a beloved classic puppet show. Henson, Jeff Hayes, Ben Falcone, and McCarthy produce.

Aaron Sorkin’s feature adaptation of Molly Bloom’s memoir Molly’s Game will open the Wednesday before Thanksgiving on Nov. 22, STX Entertainment announced.

Molly’s Game tells the story of Bloom (played by Jessica Chastain), once an Olympic-class skier who, following an injury, ran the world’s most exclusive high-stakes poker game for a decade before being arrested in the middle of the night by 17 FBI agents wielding automatic weapons. Her players included Hollywood royalty, sports stars, business titans and finally, unbeknownst to her, the Russian mob. Her only ally was her criminal defense lawyer Charlie Jaffey, who learned that there was much more to Molly than the tabloids led us to believe. STX acquired Sorkin’s feature directorial debut for an estimated $9M. The pic finished shooting during the early spring with the studio showing off some great footage at CinemaCon. Pic also stars Kevin Costner, Idris Elba, Michael Cera, Jeremy Strong, Chris O’Dowd and Bill Camp. Entertainment One (eOne) and The Mark Gordon Company financed the feature, and Mark Gordon is producing with Amy Pascal via her Pascal Pictures banner. Leopoldo Gout and Matt Jackson serve as EPs.
