  1. The Heat and White House Down. But it was also the second weekend of Monsters University and World War Z and the third for Man of Steel, so...
  2. That opening for Guardians is nuuutttttss. Originally I was thinking $60M would be great for this, but $94M? Holy hell.Disappointingly muted start for Get on Up given the good reviews, legacy of James Brown, and the limited amount of titles aimed directly at adults this summer. Victim of timing, I guess. Legs should still be good, though.Lucy's drop is expected but it's still a huge success. Hercules got slaughtered, though. Wish Apes was holding better.Solid expansion for A Most Wanted Man, while Boyhood is still kicking ass. Still kind of tepid for Magic in the Moonlight, guess it's back to sub-$15M grosses for Woody.
  3. A Boyhood The LEGO Movie A- Chef Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Guardians of the Galaxy How to Train Your Dragon 2 X-Men: Days of Future Past B+ 22 Jump Street Begin Again Captain America: The Winter Soldier Edge of Tomorrow The Fault In Our Stars Get on Up The Grand Budapest Hotel Neighbors B Godzilla Lucy Maleficent Million Dollar Arm Muppets Most Wanted Noah Non-Stop B- The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Divergent Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit Jersey Boys Rio 2 C+ 300: Rise of an Empire The Monuments Men Tammy C A Million Ways to Die in the West Ride Along
  4. It's baffling how some theaters are actually mistaking the new Marvel movie with a nearly two year old animated film.
  5. The other main takeaway should be: Zoe Saldana as blue/green skin characters = $$$$$$$.
  6. Even just a few weeks ago I would've thought $60M would've been fantastic for this. But $90M+? Holy fucking shit.
  7. I really thought Guardians wouldn't impact it since the audience for it is primarily over the age of 40, but I guess not. If next week wasn't so packed it likely would've opened then (since The Hundred-Foot Journey doesn't look to make much of an dent at all).
  8. That number for Guardians of the Galaxy is as astonishing as that number for Get on Up is disappointing (really thought that would do around $7M at the minimum).
  9. Deadline is reporting that Get on Up is looking at a $14-15M for the weekend. It's still too early, but that would be very disappointing.
  10. I was just looking at the schedule in the weeks ahead and the only movies being released on August 29 and September 5 are...The November Man, As Above So Below, and The Green Inferno. Oy the box office is gonna look depressing.
  11. The Expendables 3 is looking to be an almost total non-event, so I don't think it has anything to worry about on that front.
  12. James Gunn's previous writing credits include the two Scooby-Doo movies and the Dawn of the Dead remake. lolz
  13. John C. Reilly is an Oscar nominee too. Also, Close has not won an Oscar. She's just been nominated 6 times.
  14. People who think Glenn Close and Helen Mirren are even close to same person:
  15. Unless she's uncredited, no. They must have her confused with Glenn Close lol.
  16. And his sister on that show, Emily Van Camp, is not doing bad for herself between headlining a popular/much-talked-about show (Revenge) and a supporting role in Captain America 2 that I assume will extend to other movies in this universe.
  17. LOL Jolie just had a movie open to $70M. You need to reevaluate your definition of "done."
