What grade did Interstellar get in its opening weekend? O.O
B+, I think. The same as Inception.
-
That's pretty good #'s. Interesting since most people suspected this weekend would be relatively slow since it's sandwiched between IS/BH6 and MJ1 but it turns out to be quite good.

When I saw Grand Budapest Hotel I was the youngest person there by about 87 years.
For Tele it probably felt like home.

2013 was a pretty good year for comedies in general. Nobody expected We're The Millers or The Heat to make $150m. This year has continued that trend.

We don't necessarily want a 3rd Dumb and Dumber. But what we do want is Jim Carrey getting back on his game and landing film roles where he can be the comic genius he is and also get some juicy dramatic roles (a la Eternal Sunshine and Truman Show performances). Whether you like DADT or not, it's success will only help Carrey begin a comeback to being a major player again. He is so talented it would fun to see him get back on his game.
After the Ace Ventura sequel, Jim never did a sequel till now and had never liked doing sequels. The success of DD2 could help get his career back on track so he doesn't HAVE to do sequels.
I agree. If he's on his A-game, Carrey is one of the funniest people I know. I would love if he had success again with "original" comedies as well.

I agree. I'll be thrilled if it's actually good. I just don't want to expect it'll be the best thing ever before going to see it. Build it up too much and it's easy to get disappointed.
Tbh, for me the original Dumb and Dumber isn't even Carrey's best film. IMO Liar Liar and Ace Ventura are way funnier. Still really like D&D though.

Apparently you don't know the meaning of sarcasm. I actually like D&D (the first one) and many movies in that vein. I don't expect a lot from the sequel though.
I think much of the humor in Jim Carrey's movies -just like Will Ferrell's humor- is not for everybody.

If those estimates hold, which is unlikely, this would be pretty good for the Top Three.

I don't believe that 40m number for D&DT, but if it's true this would be a fantastic opening.

Interstellar roughly stayed flat and BH6 increased slightly. That's a good sign for the weekend in my book.
-
I think 30m is a good and expected opening for D&DT. IMO it's still quite popular among audiences.

Humoungous drop for Baymax, but it should also have a huge increase tomorrow and on Saturday, so IMO it's not that bad.

Dumb an Dumber To is doing pretty well in terms of presales on Movietickets. I think it may surprise with a close to 30M opening.
I'm relieved that most reviews I read or watched don't completely trash the film. It sounds like it's at least watchable.

Many of the most successful movies ever are 2.5h+. If a movie delivers quality-wise, runtime doesn't matter for the box office.

Huge drops, but they were expected. I still think Interstellar will drop less than 50% for the weekend.
-
It might be uninteresting to most people, but I'm surprised that The Judge has actually had some nice legs so far.

Excellent number for BH6 despite holiday. Good for Interstellar. I still think it could drop less than 45% this weekend.
-
Good for Interstellar. I still hope at least for $150m.

Exodus: Apes and Kings
The Dark Caesar Rises

Tbh, at this point it would be surprising to me if Interstellar grossed much more than $150m total. It all dpends on its holds the next two weekends.

Interstellar underperformed so badly that even Shawn came back on this forum. Only Nolan can do that.

Guardians of the Galaxy has passed $330m.

Should have made 1 B.
GOTG 2 will do it.

Fantastic #'s for the Top Three. I was kind of secretly hoping for 40m for D&D2, but even $35m+ is great for it. Also great increases for IS and Baymax.
