But predicting GotG making 250+ m and Turtles making 65 m OW were never realistic prior to their release.
Sure. Sometimes predictions that at first seem unrelaistic turn out to be right on the money. But these are exceptions. Some predictions here are just way over the top.

Best tentpole I've seen this summer.
Agree, although for me Apes is tied with DOFP.

I think it should be important to note that optimism for a movie's box office run is welcomed on this forum, but some people let their love (or hate) for a movie blind their predictions so that they become completely unrealistic. Nobody is going to hate on you if you make wrong predictions because nobody's perfect, but you should at least think about your predictions and their possibility before you make them.
Sorry if I sound like a mod, but I wanted to get this off my chest.

If Turtles keeps getting up from estimates, we might still have our first true 100m OW before Mockingjay.
Also, strong number for Guardians. Considering most movies this summer regardless of their critical reaction had bad to average legs, a sub-60% drop for Guardians should be viewed as a success.

Wait, what happened to the 47m wknd of GOTG?
It was a bubble that burst pretty quickly.

That Turtles opening is huge, but the box office needs it, so I won't complain. As for Guardians, I said it before and I'll say it again. As long as it stays above 40M I'm happy. The people who predicted a sub 50% drop let their love for the movie blind their discernment.

He should do both and have them cross over.
The explosions in that film would be.....out of this world.

Another really entertaining movie. The action scenes were pretty awesome and I think that Idris Elba's and the Asian girl's characters actually had some depth to them.

Really good movie and tied with IM1 as the second-best MCU movie so far (after The Avengers). I do think it's a bit overhyped.
A- or 8/10

Very fun, extremely entertaining film. As many have said, one of the better blockbusters of this century.

Friday afternoon forecasts placed “Turtles” well ahead of the second weekend of Marvel-Disney’s “Guardians of the Galaxy,” which looked likely to finish the frame between $41 and $46 million.
“Turtles” started strongly Friday with initial estimates in the $19 to $25 million range — including $4.6 million in late-night screenings Thursday at 2,651 locations.
I think that's the "Kal range".
Edit: BTW, if Kal sees those Turtles estimates, he will explode in joy.

Wasn't a breakout hit or anything. Did pretty much what was expected, actually below many expectations.
Domestically maybe, but worldwide it pretty much destroyed most people's expectations.

You can like Michael Bay or you can hate him, but you have to acknowledge that he knows how to make successful movies. And wishing him or any person to die is absolutely insane IMO.

So 50M+ for Turtles? Not surprising to me since the brand still is quite popular. I'm more interested in the Guardians number though.
-
I meant that there is no Friday numbers from Deadline.com yet. Which it surprising, considering how early the numbers come in (and how off they usually are).
Well, last week Nikki reported 36m for Guardians pretty early and that wasn't that far off (at least compared to some of their other numbers).

Did you vote? LOL
No, I just wondered about the results. Guess IMDb surveys are not the best thing to really make a guess about the weekend numbers.

@boxofficemojo What Movie Are You Going to See? Aug 8, 2014 http://www.imdb.com/poll/IxO1GvtZmm8/?ref_=po_sn … #imdb #poll
They can't be serious. Lucy over Turtles?

movies like Captain America and TDKR rised more in the 60% range on Fridays
I see what you did there.

But guys is this a sign of frontloadedness for "Guardians"? or give "Turtles" it's credit, it clearly appeals to some of the same demo's as "Guardians". People also forget that "Ninja Turtles" is technically a "Comic-Book" movie also.
As was being said by others, there were four openers yesterday, so a relatively steep drop is not surprising. I think a weekend over $45m for Guardians is still possible, though it's going to be tough.

Are there holidays in Germany right now or anytime soon?
I think right now, the entire country has holidays, but for some parts they will be over in a couple of weeks.
-
Ouch, dat drop. No catastrophe since Guardians has been performing darn well so far, but this suggests that TMNT probably will take no.1 this weekend.
