Guardians increased from estimates again?

I wonder if GOTG will increase from estimates like it did last weekend. Seems possible to me since the projected Sunday drop is quite big.

I'm sorry? Why are you freaking out so much lol.
Tele locked the thread earlier because people went off-topic. Many complained about that and now they're joking that even the slightest off-topicness will lead to the lockdown of the thread.

One more thing, it pains me to see that the Hundred Foot Journey outopened Million Dollar Arm.
What. the. fuck.
Dat Helen Mirren effect.

Hmm, yes. Numbers.
He needs to be on this thread.
On topic though: Another pretty good weekend. Turtles with a surprisingly strong opening and a good hold for GOTG.

Not as great as the first Pirates, but still very entertaining and Davy Jones is an amazing, menacing villain.

That's excessive but now weekend threads are gonna be boring as shit. I guess we have THE CLASSIC CONVERSATION THREAD now.
This and last weekends thread have been pretty fun without much derailment. September and October though are going to be extremely boring.

LOL, I figured, but I still hedge my bets, just in case something happens and it falls off a cliff over the next few weeks.ETA: isn't there a Minion movie that's supposed to come out soon?
Yes, in July 2015.

What? lol I'm really tempted to see this. Russia is on fire this year btw.
Still harmless compared to China. I mean TF4's gross there is just unreal.

How many markets? 250 M is a lock, right? 500 M worldwide or more is happening. That's bigger than the initial runs of THOR and CA: TFA. Who would have thought?
I would say 600M for Guardians is well within reach.
Overall pretty good numbers for everything (except Step Up). August will beat July, I'm telling you.

So $65M for Turtles probably won't happen now if the Saturday estimates hold. But $60M is still great for it. And Guardians with a good hold (as Long as it stays over 40M at least).
Also, WTF at parts of this thread.

Rth was late with the numbers yesterday as well, right? He probably has a busy time right now, which is the reason why the numbers come in late.

Regarding the anime-turned-into live-action film, I want to see a One Piece live-action movie directed by Gore Verbinski.

Lol just like Titanic was a fluke right... Alpha you do know Avatar on HVideo blew away avengers right and is still selling even the non 3D copies lol.
There is no way SW7 or Avengers will have the fan following that Juggernaut has.. Comics movies also have limited potential is getting those 50-90 yr old crowds into theaters. I mean Camerons brand commands a following that Ive never seen its equal in history. Once this man annouces a big project, you have to be part of it.. Even his side projects make killer money.
I'm not sure what I expect from Avatar 2 yet. Normally I would say it'll have a big drop-off, but it will be a sequel directed by James Cameron, which is an incredibly powerful combination. I think BvS, Avatar 2 and Avengers 2 all have the potential to earn $2b+ worldwide, but at least one of those will likely miss that mark.

EoT was an adaptation.
I know, but it's still not part of a franchise (in my eyes at least).

To join the debate, I also think it's very wrong to say that franchise movies automatically suck. Especially this year has been great for movies in general. We had a great, "original" (i.e.not part of a franchise) science.fiction film in EoT, but we also had great franchise fare, i.e. Apes, X-Men, HTTYD 2 and so on. IMO a great movie is a great movie, franchise or not.

Meh, I don't really care about the overall box-office at all.
Why not?

There are not very mainstream movies in a year made with main characters who are Black. They make up about 12% of the U.S. population but are only the main character in about 7% of the mainstream movies. And this year, the big hit one that made 130 domestic had an 18% on RT, and so far the one that is bombing is the one with a 79% on RT. I predicted Get on Up would make 75 domestic.
First of all, Get on Up is not bombing. And second, your prediction for it would still have been way less than what Ride Along made. So why are you so surprised that Get On Up isn't performing remarkably well?

I finally saw Dawn of the Planet of the Apes today and I gotta say that it's tied with X-Men: DOFP as my favorite movie so far this year.

The new Maleficent.
More like the new Godzilla.

Just fine, you hater.
(Though I expect it to be much more popular overseas than here in the States).
Call me crazy, but if it's as good as it looks, it could have a shot at $400m worldwide.

Top two are Avengers and IM3 right? Great result for Guardians there.
