I have a feeling GOTG will do much more than that in Germany
Most likely not much more, but I have a feeling GOTG could break out here.
-
GOTG (+600K) while TMNT (+200K)
TMNT 28.587M (-56.4%)
GOTG 25.315 (-39.9%)
Impressive holds for both. TMNT with the 3rd best 2nd weekend hold of the 60+ summer openers behind only Maleficent and GOTG. TMNT should be able to leg it's way to 180M and 200M wouldn't shock me. As for GOTG it's only 200K+ behind Cap's 3rd weekend despite that weekend being inflated by Easter. At this point, I think 300M is happening!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love your optimism. But regardless where GOTG ends up, it's certainly one of the greatest box office surprises in years.

My reaction to both TMNT and GOTG always increasing from estimates is simple:

Congratulations to Neighbors for hitting $150m domestic. Pretty strong number for an original R-Rated Comedy.

Kung Fu Panda 2 I think. It made close to 100M. And Dragons won't touch it probably.
That makes sense. KFP 3 could explode in China, too. Still a great result for HTTYD 2. Also, nice domestic holds for TMNT and GotG.

HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2: $366M Overseas Total / $537.2M Global Total #HowToTrainYourDragon2
Box Office Mojo @boxofficemojo 17 mins
'How to Train Your Dragon 2' opened to $25.9 million in China -- that's 8x higher than #1: http://bit.ly/1mYaNDO
What's the record for highest-grossing animated movie in China? Wonder if Dragon could surpass the record-holder.

Any recent update from Rth?
rough
TMNT 9.7-10.2, GOTG 9.3-9.8,E3 6.5
That's his last update though. The numbers in the thread title are from Deadline.

Decent film, much better than Wolverine Origins. Dragged in some parts and the ending didn't feel right nd the Viper villain was weak IMO, but Hugh Jackman is great as always as Wolverine. The end-credits stinger was amazing, too. Overall solid popcorn entertainment, but nothing special.
B or 7.2/10

Definitely the worst X-Men movie IMO and if even the CGI looks bad in a comicbook film, you know you screwed up. Still entertaining in some parts IMO.
C or 5/10

Thanks for the update. Nice increases for TMNT and GOTG and EX3 looks to end up with $16-17 million for the weekend. That's not good at all.

What makes a movie good or bad depends on what the movie is, what it is aiming to do, and how well it succeeds at its (artistic) goals. There are basic things such as actors/actresses performances, cinematography, script, etc that all come into play. But you can't really make a checklist on what makes a good movie because that depends from film to film.
And it depends on people's opinions.

Nice that both Turtles and Guardians ended up at Rth's high end.

Lol Baumer are you becoming a film snob Baumer.
GOTG was a very entertaining summer blockbuster which did not take it self seriously and it was exactly that.
It's his opinion, man. Not liking GOTG means you're a snob? Give me a break. This is getting ridiculous.

Congrats to GOTG for hitting 200M and in the process passing Apes 2/Godzilla/TASM2.
And we should also still congratulate Apes 2 for hitting 200M this weekend.

Damn, could Ex3 miss $50m? That would be terrible. Nice to see a close race for no.1 though.

BOF would be too boring without these mundane arguments.
Yeah, imagine some threads without Man of Steel discussions.

4.22M (-13%)
7.18M (+70%)
10.4M(+45%)
7.3M (-30%)
3rd weekend 24.9M (-41%)
Sounds quite reasonable, though I'm secretly hoping for a kind of miracoulous sub-40% drop.

7.5/10
I don't agree with many of your opinions on movies, Ethan, but it's always nice to have people with different tastes. This world would be way more boring if everybody would like the same stuff.

I think 20m seems like a safe bet for Expendables 3. I agree that it's going to be a very close weekend, but IMO TMNT will come out on top (though I hope for GotG).

I wouldn't worry about Guardians losing nearly 400 theaters. Its PTA will be great.
-
I'm a little surprised its losing so many theaters this weekend:
Well, a 35% or less drop for the weekend likely won't happen now. Sub-40% is still in play though, which would be amazing.

Let's Be Cops could be yet another breakout hit. Go August!

Dear God!!! 400M in the next Transformers?
Probably yes.

I think $650m WW is a reasonable target for it which would be amazing.
