  1. $100m off a $33m w/e - would be a 4 multiplier.  TWS with did another $70m off a $35m w/e O/S.

Just checked Italy & Japan numbers - TDW and TWS did about $16.5-17m in both combined.  I don't see GOTG doing almost 20% more than both when it hasn't done so in any previous market.  Japan is usually a different beast than other Asian markets (it could go crazy break out like Maleficent and do $60m) but GOTG has underperformed TDW and TWS significantly in the others.

I think Japan + Italy + Germany = $35m is the high end

China could be anywhere from $60m-100m

    So my high end guess:

    $35m + $75m + $100m = $210m more O/S for a $406m O/S total

Low end it could do $50m less for $356m O/S.  So if it does $290m dom it would pass TDW ww

I think $650m WW is a reasonable target for it which would be amazing.

  2. GOTG (+600K) while TMNT (+200K)

    TMNT 28.587M (-56.4%)

    GOTG 25.315 (-39.9%)

Impressive holds for both. TMNT with the 3rd best 2nd weekend hold of the 60+ summer openers behind only Maleficent and GOTG. TMNT should be able to leg it's way to 180M and 200M wouldn't shock me. As for GOTG it's only 200K+ behind Cap's 3rd weekend despite that weekend being inflated by Easter. At this point, I think 300M is happening!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

I love your optimism. But regardless where GOTG ends up, it's certainly one of the greatest box office surprises in years.

'How to Train Your Dragon 2' opened to $25.9 million in China -- that's 8x higher than #1: http://bit.ly/1mYaNDO

What's the record for highest-grossing animated movie in China? Wonder if Dragon could surpass the record-holder.

  4. Decent film, much better than Wolverine Origins. Dragged in some parts and the ending didn't feel right nd the Viper villain was weak IMO, but Hugh Jackman is great as always as Wolverine. The end-credits stinger was amazing, too. Overall solid popcorn entertainment, but nothing special.

    B or 7.2/10

  5. What makes a movie good or bad depends on what the movie is, what it is aiming to do, and how well it succeeds at its (artistic) goals. There are basic things such as actors/actresses performances, cinematography, script, etc that all come into play. But you can't really make a checklist on what makes a good movie because that depends from film to film.

And it depends on people's opinions.
