Depending on it's Japanese legs, Maleficent could ultimately come close to DOFP's WW gross and that would be very impressive. But since DOFP is a million times better film, let's hope it doesn't happen.

The wknd estimates seem to inject life back into this thread. Strong holds for Mal and EoT. And Dragon 2 is also finally showing some legs.

You have your classic Mario, Zelda, and Final Fantasy music.
Then comes Martin O'Donnell and the Halo awesome domination.
Then you got the Mass Effect series (particularly ME2 which told Jack Wall to just go nuts with his power action music).
And Jeremy Soule in Skyrim.
Plus other stuff.
The Mass Effect score is incredible. I can't remember the name of my favorite theme in the series, but it's the one that plays in the main menu of ME1.

So I guess TF4 making more in China than in NA is locked now.

It may be worse, depends on where it goes from here on out. But probably while have a similar attendance drop rather than worse.
Each franchises numbers seem very similar. First does 300-something million. Next goes north of 400. Then a similar drop for 3rd film (3D softened TF3s drop). Then a similar drop for 4th film.
Shrek is also a good comparison IMO. Although the first one just made roughly $265m, the rest of the franchise history is pretty similar to Pirates and Transformers.

What a awful drop for TF4. It IS POTC4 all over again.
The drop from TF3 to TF4 will likely be worse than the drop from Pirates 3 to Pirates 4.

So the trend of dissappointing numbers continues. I also still think TF4 could make it to $250m. Anemic number for Dragon 2. This has gotta be one of the most dissappointing runs in a looong time.

Meh for all the openers except Tammy, although even that won't come close to the totals of McCarthy's two vehicles from last year (not that it needs to to be considered a success since it will have made back its budget by the end of today).
Hopefully Dawn of the Planet of the Apes will shake things up a bit and overperform next weekend.
When would we talk about Apes 2 overperforming? I would say if it makes $250m+ it definitely overperformed.

It has great reviews, not much competition and is a sequel to a liked/loved film.
and it's 2014, so i think it will disappoint.

This has to be one of the most uninteresting July 4th weekends ever at the box office. I hope Apes 2 injects back some life into the industry next weekend.

I have to agree with Mr. Muscle: It's been pretty crappy. Godzilla, EoT and Maleficent were all poop.
But you thought that DOFP and HTTYD 2 were good, right?
