In industry screenings maybe but it will be long out of theaters by then.
Yes, we are in the era of IP and Brand being king but star power of course still exists. It's a matter of marrying the right star to the right film though. Though even with a mismatched star can still bring in more people to the box office in the same role as a non star. Even in the height of star power it never trumped genre or whether or not the film was audience friendly films. Hardly anyone paid to see Cary Grant in his working class drama when he was the #1 one star in an industry filled with stars. Tom Cruise was the biggest star of the 90s - Magnolia did $22m - a fraction of Mission Impossible II or Jerry McGuire. DeCaprio can currently push almost anything - except J Edgar Hoover.
But I consider Magnolia more of an Indie movie & he was nominated for an Oscar for it so it worked out - thought that was one of his best roles - wish he would do more like that.

Elsewhere, while there were no major wide releases at the international box office this weekend, Universal’s Tom Cruise-starrer American Made flew off to $6.7M in 21 markets. There were 11 No. 1s in all — the UK and Australia are the only major hubs to roll out this frame.

Cant believe emoji movie only dropped 50%. The market place must really be dry for kids films. Maybe thats also why DM3 is doing so well.
My grandson is 5 - he wants to see it just for the poop emoji - he even has the pillow. Kids don't have the greatest taste in movies & most parents will take them to see it even though it's godawful.

Its enough. But don't hold your breath on a sequel
I guess I'm confused about this series - I never expected a sequel - I just figured the characters would interact in all the new movies they announced.

I'm excited for this - grew up watching them play & I think Shia is a great actor no matter his off-screen antics.

The Mummy has surprisingly done well in Latin America compared to Europe as a whole.
For instance JR:NGB grossed 1.6M in Netherlands whereas The Mummy which is well established brand might touch 1.8-2M gross.
JR:NGB grossed 9.6M in UK and Mummy will barely scrape thru 10M mark here.
JR:NGB grossed 7.6M gross in France mummy might touch 9-10 depending on Spidey release.
Not sure why its run in Europe is not upto the mark? Is it summer effect? Heatwave??
In LA it has done well, Argentina one of Cruise's weakest territories has grossed 3.8M in 3 weekends staying in No 1 spot for all 3 weekends.
Brazil and Mexico crossed 11M mark, Colombia gross is solid as well.
Latin America seems to love horror movies.

Must be because baywatch was a bigger deal there than most market with a German actor being the star of the show.
Reading this made me remember how big Hasselhoff was in Germany - they bought his albums & he sang when the wall came down - they were crazy for him.

It Comes At Night is another film that requires chicanery to get people to see it.
Should be a rotten film. Very angry right now. And what a horrible title.
Out of likes but I love that you used the word "chicanery" - well done!

Loved the trailer - me & my sons are gonna go see this when it opens.

Let me just say that I am not a Sci-Fi fan & I'm a big chicken at horror movies. My Mom wanted to see this movie badly but my Dad would not go so she took me & my friend along with her. I was tense from the get-go - was grossed out when the alien was stuck on John Hurt's face & when the alien popped out of his stomach I was truly horrified & sickened - I ran into the lobby for a bit to calm down. It's not my cup of tea but it was brilliant - I really don't think I was that nervous, sickened & tense at a movie since. I also loved the fact that Sigourney Weaver was so kick-ass in it - not often that a woman was the hero & lone survivor back then. I still have trouble watching it when my husband or sons do - so intense.

I saw that too in the theater - I was 14.
(should I drop the mic too?)

Saw all the movies on Tele's list - just a couple that I saw that year that I also liked:
Angel Heart with Mickey Rourke, Robert DeNiro & Lisa Bonet
Tin Men with Richard Dreyfuss & Danny DeVito
The Believers with Martin Sheen
The Big Easy with Dennis Quaid & Ellen Barkin
Barfly with Mickey Rourke & Faye Dunaway - this one stuck with me - so different
Baby Boom with Diane Keaton & Sam Shephard
Wish You Were Here - British film set during WWII
And just a little trivia - was trying to get home from work - had to walk thru Times Square - it was a madhouse - was the premiere for Who's That Girl - saw Madonna.

I've been watching the Oscars since the late 70s & it was just awful. Moonlight had it's moment in the sun ruined & the people who worked on LaLa Land have to give back the trophies - just a friggin mess. I guess Warren didn't know what to do but why not just say "I was given the wrong envelope" - I still can't laugh at this - just embarrassing.

I'll probably see this just for the cast but it does look largely unfunny.
Really - I thought it looked funny along with all my twenty-something kids & nephews - they all want to see it. I crack up every time that guy swings thru the air & hits that cabinet or whatever it is.

This runtimes is BS. No way its that long and they have Dr. strange that long, which Marvel would never ever let happen to a solo film.
Plus that is the cast for the first Jack Reacher movie

I still can't get over the woman with a bunch of young kids at the Mad Max screening.
Your 4 year really doesn't need to see an R rated movie people.
Went to the last showing of The Conjuring 2 last month - 10:40 show & right before the lights go out a woman walks in with 2 kids under 10 years old - I was shocked. I don't know what is wrong with some parents!!

RDJ hasn't had to suffer the humiliation of everything Ben Affleck has had to suffer over the past year or so in the media.
I guess you didn't follow RDJ in the late 90s then

I think this film is more popular among the younger demographics...
I don't know about that - I'm 51 & I loved it - my sister loved it & most of my friends did too. I really enjoyed this movie - thought Leo was fabulous & cannot believe he didn't win the Oscar. Jonah Hill was perfection & who really cracked me up though he wasn't in it much was Rob Reiner. Just a great movie with great performances that kept me interested till the end.

I was looking forward to this until that trailer - I shouldn't be surprised - haven't like anything Ritchie has done since Snatch.

Agree with other reviews - wasn't much meat to the story - wish we had the story of these two brothers & how one becomes a criminal & one becomes a successful politician - what kind of childhood produces that?? I love Johnny but I found him very distracting - those blue eyes & white face was just jarring to me - brought me out of the movie alot - wish they would have used an actor more Irish looking naturally. Joel Edgerton played his role very well because I hated him with a passion. Great cast but not much for them to do - wish we knew more about Dakota Johnson's character & her relationship with Whitey - this just seemed to not have any emotion. Shame because I was really looking forward to this one.

People were starved for entertainment back then.
No internet.
No video games.
No DVDs.
No cable.
And there were like 4 tv channels.
Outside of Godfather, none of those are crossing 100 m today.
We left our homes & went outside & made our own entertainment - we were not starved for entertainment because we were too busy having fun! I know people nowadays don't think it's possible but we had a blast without any internet or video games or DVDs or cable - people were much more social because of it.

"Cartoon" is nothing to be ashamed of.
And my 65 year old stepfather once said that Cars was one of the best movies ever. Sounds weird to me, but I think he really connected to the nostalgia that the movie evoked with Route 66.
I call all of them cartoons - I'm not denigrating them that's just what they were called when I was growing up & yes I am over 50.
