Yeah. But again, a lot of book adaptations were aiming for the same thing: appealing to a broader audience. In the and, it's all about marketing and Sony is no WB or Disney when it comes to this. And when you look at the YA genre, there are very few books which actually were successful as movies. But I hope it'll do well. Sound like my kind of film
It's quite popular actually, even though I haven't read it yet. Also, from what I hear, it's pretty good. But even so, it's nowhere near the popularity (or sales) of Divergent, TFIOS or Percy Jackson for example. But hey, it' Sony - not exactly the best decision maker, so it's not that surprising.
Great article. And I believe that the FANTASTIC BEASTS trilogy will continue the streak. Maybe not on the same level, but still huge. What amazed about HP was it's consistency and the loyalty of it's fanbase. The same fanbase or at least a big part of it will turn up for a movie that has JK Rowling's name attached to it. And if it's a good movie (and I dont see why it shouldn't be) and has a great marketing campaign (you can count on that. WB will probably push this like crazy), then the Warners will have another huge franchise on their hands.
The 400-500m territory is for OS markets what the 90-100m opening weekend is for domestic. TASM 2, CAP 2, X-DOPF, Maleficent and now Apes - all are in the same ballpark: big BO hits, but not giants like TF4 or the last Hobbit. A bit monotonous.
