I honestly couldn't care less about another cookie cutter Marvel superhero movie.
Jurassic Park 5 and Furious 8 will at least offer something different. Another gimmick!? Please. I'd rather have another gimmick for JP and FF every few years than another Marvel gimmick every 14 days. I wonder when they're going to run out of animals and insects for their future superheroes.
Er...In case you didn't already realize, they are not making up superheroes, they are making films based on Established SuperHeroes from their comics.
And 'another Marvel movie'? What do you mean by that? All these movies are totally different apart from the fact they have superheroes. They all have different characters with different origins, different powers, different villains, from different times and even from different worlds. Just because they are all superhero movies and are mostly slightly comedic doesn't mean they are 'all the same'. Its the jurassic Parks and the FFs that are the same. All FFs have the same characters (with some additions and removals along the way) and all include the same car chasing/racing and stuff. Similarly all Jurassic Parks have almost the exact same base plotline. The MCU movies are much more varied and different than both those franchises. And I am not saying that coz I like MCU. I do like it but I also like the JP movies. I am just saying what I honestly feel to be the case/truth.

Anyways...Hurrah for DH2!! Did the WW and OS-W record without China and yet got beat very marginally by a Movie that got a 100m 5-day in China...
Here's hoping Fantastic Beasts breaks records too (at-least those pertaining to Spin-Offs)!!

And it did all of that while being a pretty terrible movie, too
It got 96% on RT with >300 reviews!! Thats better than all 3 Lord Of the Rings!! So if you think so, you are part of a very minor minority.

So it looks like Minions, after an OW 26m greater, will have a second weekend within 5m of IO's second one. Looks like its gonna start losing ground to IO as early as next friday, probably before...

- 34% for Minions?!?
TOXIC WOM!!!

this film is a crap compared to this director previous films in terms of story telling and content. this film is just doing good because of granduerness and epicness. this film has very mixed wom in tollywood but it is doing wonders the boxoffice , crossed the previous highest tollywood film in just 3 days which was already a massive number.
Yeah, its not that great plotwise and maybe not as good as the likes of Maghadeera but it is not crap at all. Its pretty good actually. Probably the best Indian movie yet this year.
The WOM is Amazing here in the North. I can't believe so many people were in the theatre for a south-dubbed movie here in Agra. And that's when awareness is really low for the movie here. In the theatre I watched it, the audience really really loved it. Never before had I seen such a respnse to any film here. They seemed to be absolutely perplexed by it. For the avg Indian viewer who's not too familiar with Hollywood Movies and rarely watches them on the big screen, this is a complete new experience. I think this is going to make really huge numbers all kver India.

So anyone here seen this Baahubali? I just spent some time researching it and watching the trailers and I'm very intrigued. It basically looks like a Hindi LOTR crossed with Avatar. Had no idea they made such epic films over there.
Yeah, I saw it this saturday. Really amazing movie, by Indian Standards. A complete new level for the Indian Cinema. The first mega-budget film here with a budget around 2-2.5 Times the previous high. It wasn't that Much of a masterpiece plotwise, even though the story was good too, but the epic scope, the grandeur, the acting and the natural scenery in the first half were all really amazing, again by Indian standards. And the audience seemed to really, really love it. I had never seen such a response for any film. They seemed absolutely perplexed with the Film.
I'd say you should go and watch it. If you aren't too familiar with Indian Cinema (and actually even if you are, they rarely make War Epics and the likes so wouldn't matter) it would be a pretty new and different thing for you and I believe you'll like it.

Watched bahubali today. Amazing movie. A complete new level of movie for the Indian cinema. Never before has a movie of such epic scope been made in India. The pure Grandeur and sheer Epicness of the movie was one I had never seen hitherto in Indian cinema. I hope this becomes a massive mega-blockbuster and thus start a new era of Indian Cinema!

No one was really surprised by the drops. The insane midnight and then Friday night business was just a lot of fun to track. Into the wee hours of Saturday morning there were many of us thinking it might reach $100m for the day. Came up $9m short. So close, but so far away. The rest of the weekend was predictably frontloaded as hell.
You may be right, But even though it was obvious that it was going to be really frontloaded, I would still have definitely hoped for at least a 180m weekend and it remaining on top for atleast 1 more weekend...

DH2 was the BOM days. It's lost forever.
Fudge!
That would have been a good thread to read through....

Great for IO and JW. Good for Minions too but I hope it doesn't get to the record. I'll like Dory to be the one to finally beat that record.
Btw, talking about old weekend threads, is the DH2 OW/main thread still here? I would love to see the reactions of members to its abnormally high numbers and then abnormally high drops.

So has anyone here seen The Boy and the Beast yet? How's it? Is it on the same level as The girl who leapt through time? How are the reviews for it? Do the critICS say that its almost great enough for Hosoda and Studio Chizu to be actually considered the next Studio Ghibli, even if to a lesser degree?

I think the last 3D movie I ended up seeing was DH2
DH2 was my 1st one in 3D.

Above 20m weekend would completely lock 350m+ for IO.

IO is not gonna drop that hard on weekdays.
4.9
6.3
5.9
6.0
You sure you didn't change the 5's with 6's and 4's with 5's?

TA is closing in on JW -- 10m monday vs 4.2m monday.
That must have been a holiday Monday.
-
IO should get to 350m now. After last weekend's results, i had started to think that 350 won't happen. But it held well throughout the subsequent week despite the sucky 4th July Weekend. I think 350 can and should happen now.

Yes! Finally IO came out on top. Pixar's streak of No 1's remains !!

Shit... If I had submitted a list myself (I just didn't come across this before today), I would have definitely put Seita on the top 10 and Setsuko maybe in the top 5, maybe even top 3!! But still, this being a 1988 Japanese depressing anime film I hadn't actually expected this to even make this list. So I guess this is actually good. This is definitely one of the saddest films ever with 2 of the most realistic characters ever in an animated film (apart from Shizuku Tsukishima from Whisper pf the heart). I remember seeing this film for the first fime late at night. I saw the whole film, silently, without crying. It ended, the credits started rolling, with a sad song playing in the background. I listened to it for a minute or two, reawtched the first few minutes of the film till where the flashback starts, closed the TV and instantly went to sleep. Next morning I woke up and I started crying, just crying on and on. I cry very rarely so this was really just another thing for me. I just couldn't stop crying. Again and again, images and scenes from the film kept flashing before my eyes, especially the scene showing what Setsuko must have been doing when Seita was out woth beaitiful music playing in the background. The innocent playings of a little girl who had to suffer and go through what no such child should. The film was really a heart-breaker. Especially if you rewatch the first 4-5 minutes of the film after ending it. I can guarantee they would be one of the saddest movie moments of your life.79th: Seita - Grave of the Fireflies - Tsutomu Tatsuma

Quite possibly the saddest thing you'll ever watch. This film is evil, pure evil in how much it just rips hope out of your heart and destroys you with the slow destruction of the main characters.
The fact that the film's opening scene is Seita's death should warn you that you are not about to experience talking bears dancing to the beat as they pick fruit in the jungle, but still, this is one of the greatest animations, greatest war films, greatest films ever made and is something that should be watched by everyone. Just make sure it is alone, away from people who won't get to see you cry for about 75 straight minutes even though you don't normally do that sort of thing. Or that could theoretically happen at least.

Both JW and IO will hopefully cross 30m this weekend. If Ted 2, Terminator Genyses and MM2 hadn't underperformed we'd be having 5 movies over 30m this weekend. Combined with 3 movies over 50m in the previous weekend, that would have made this the most memorable and best month (or rather, the best 4 weekends) ever in history of Box Office (For people following it).

Wreck it Ralph is much much better than both Frozen and Tangled, even though they are good movies too.

How do movies like Transformers for instance increase awareness about anything at all? And FYI these movies are released not only in English but also Hindi and regional languages.
People will watch whatever entertains them regardless of where it's from and what language it's in. And if hollywood is entertaining them better then so be it. But in no way do I support the statement that India needs to change and westernize it's culture to be modern. Japan, China and even UAE are modernizing without having to change their culture or languages and hollywood movies make more money per capita in all these countries without actually "replacing" their culture. Are you suggesting that Indian cultures and languages are inferior?
IMO the Indian box office is starting to behave like China's where entertaining movies are huge hits and bad ones wither away, regardless of the film's origins
What the hell? You guys can take out any meaning from posts. I never meant any such thing as cultural inferiority. I was only saying it would help increase awareness of the outside world, in however small way. I mean 'countries like japan are modernizing without having to change there culture or language' - so? When did I say India should lose its culture to modernize? Heck when did I even say anything about modernizing? I just said that movies may help increasing awareness of outside world and western and eastern culture. How does that equal any such thing that you said. Knowing of other cultures and society is just finding out new things and new ways ghat helps in collective growth... Why would that mean losing culture or taking their culture? As for the language part, its not me who wanta people and students to know english. Even though I love the language myself I don't encourage it becoming the major language of communicatipn over hindi in here. But its those incharge of the education system that want this to happen. The complanies won't give you jobs here unless you're english is good. Being fluent in english is a thing that would help one get ahead. As such improved english will help people a lot. Its not that I consider hindi a low language.
Weekend Estimates: Ant-Man 58.04 | Minions 50.24 | Trainwreck 30.24 | IO 11.66 | JW 11.36 (Page 88)

Yeah, I too thought that would happen only by this wed-thursday, and even that would have been bad. But this movie almost got under it yesterday!! In its very First Week after an opening weekend 26m above IO's!! What more would you want as a proof of bad WOM, and the fact that most of the fan base saw this within the first 5 days and so its gonna start dropping big very soon?
