The Box Office Buzz, Tracking, and Pre-Sale Thread

Should hopefully give it a nice bump @IdahoJacket @Dreadnought @ringedmortality @MovieMan89 @ThomasNicole -
The argument more so has to do with hypocrisy with films starring black actors and/or have black directors. Even in the tracking thread despite the fact that The Color Purple is doing great in pre sales people are literally in that thread saying that the critic reviews are going to be bad (even though all out of theater reactions and social reactions have been excellent) is going to hurt the box office sales. People on THIS forum have been publicly hoping that the film doesn’t do as well as suggested and literally hoping for it’s failure. They did the exact same thing with TLM. Yet with Wonka there’s a lot of “it didn’t do the expected numbers but it has time” With that being said The Marvels probably wasn’t the best example for him to use lol

I think the silliest thing is people here on BO Theory thinking that Wonka will have legs because “there won’t be competition”… post pandemic if people don’t have a movie they’re excited to see they stay home. Going to the movies every week hasn’t been the norm post pandemic. Barbie, The Little Mermaid, ATSV, Oppenheimer and Mario were cinematic events. People were excited to see this films, they weren’t “oh nothing else is playing so let me go see this movie”. It seems like people on this forum are expecting this to do better despite the underperformance domestically for the opening week. Films post pandemic don’t perform like Jumanji or The Greatest Showman anymore. If people don’t have anything that they want to see at the movies they stay home.

The Box Office Buzz, Tracking, and Pre-Sale Thread

It's been getting raves across the board from people who have seen it. Even though people on here dislike her, Grace Randolph named it the 2nd best movie of 2023 after Barbie. -
Very different here. I live near the most popular mall in all of South Florida in a huge family friendly area and most shows for Wonka are empty Its just not connecting with people here as opposed to ATSV, Barbie or Eras https://www.amctheatres.com/movies/wonka-65858/showtimes/wonka-65858/2023-12-16/amc-aventura-24/all

The Box Office Buzz, Tracking, and Pre-Sale Thread

Wonka can’t really be compared to The Greatest Showman. The reason The Greatest Showman had those legs is because the soundtrack was huge despite a low opening week at the B.O. The soundtrack ended up being the top selling album worldwide for 2018 WB isn’t even promoting Wonka as a musical. This weekend will likely be a clear indication for how the film will do domestically. -

For those tracking TCP is it likely that theaters will add more showings based on ticket sales or will the current list of theaters likely remain the same? -
