  1. I’m not sure post Christmas will be a huge drop off. I’m in Miami and all the showings at my local theater are sold out on Christmas Day, but people who aren’t able to get into tje Christmas Day showings are seeing it a day later. I have three friends in three different states who had to get tickets for the day after since many Christmas Day showing are sold out. Also in the black community we are making this a take the whole family type of movie.
  2. Yes a lot of churches and HBCU sororities are renting whole theaters
  3. @WorkingonaName you’re the guru of the box office lol any predictions for this?
  4. Has that happened before, where a film with a wide release underperforms on its opening week but grosses more a week later?
  5. My local theater here in Miami in an a big family film area currently has this playing on 6 different screens simultaneously starting Thursday and not even 10 seats have been sold for any of the shows next Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
  6. Well the original Willy Wonka was considered a box office disaster but became a cult classic. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory made $475 million because it had a ton of hype and at that time everything Johnny Depp touched turned to gold even if the film wasn’t that good (Hence Alice in Wonderland, which critics pummeled) but it still made a killing at the box office. The films that you mentioned like Jumanji, Night at The Museum, Puss in Boots all had huge box office stars carrying the film, I’m not sure Timothee is at that level yet… but I could be wrong.
  7. It’s crazy Willy Wonka has barely sold any seats at my local AMC here in Miami yet the color purple has sold out most shows a week later.
  8. It's sad, this movie had so much Oscar potential but the studio dropped the ball by changing the date and now that Rustin is getting panned by critics (which Coleman Domingo was getting Oscar buzz for before the film was released) now there likely won;t be any black best actor nominees at the Oscars.
  9. People underestimate just how popular this is. I used to teach Lang & Lit at a famous Bilingual school in Medellin (Colombia) and TCP was required reading for all our Diploma Programme students. We used The Color Purple to teach southern African American dialogue. So it’s a popular book and film with many generations.
  10. Anyone have any early opening weekend predictions for The Color Purple? Or is it too early to predict?
  11. Every three days y’all say a deal has been struck and that the strikes are about to end LOL
  12. The problem is that right now we don't have a reliable source for viewing figures on streaming. The streaming giants just make up numbers so how will we know if the studios are going to be honest with their numbers? In addition this whole back end thing sounds like a deal for big Hollywood actors, your average SAG actor doesnt get residuals from the success of TV Shows. So whats the benefits of this deal for the typical SAG member besides the AI part>
  13. Agree, I see this going through thanksgiving or even Christmas
  14. You must be anti union, based on your logic unions shouldn't exist. Any time any union goes on strike another industry will be directly affected. So should all creatives just accept studio deals?
  15. Agree with you 100%, the majority of actors who are complaining about the strike going on too long are rich actors like Ryan Reynolds who just want to promote their projects so the films don't flop since most big actors have been signing deals lately guaranteeing them percentages of the box office gross. The majority of the SAG members aren't rich and streaming has screwed them over big time. Getting this over with isn't going to help those actors, for example Netflix recently removed a ton of classic black shows off the app due to lawsuits from the actors not getting any royalties on the streaming apps including Monique, and Countess Vaughn the star of the 90s show The Parkers although many of these types of shows have been successful on Netflix. If they let streaming revenue go, the majority of SAG members basically striked for nothing!
  16. Yeah but it would likely be a deal that would upset actors that aren’t huge stars. She is fighting for the little guy.
  17. It’s crazy how many pro AMPTP advocates are in here. At the end of the day as a union employee it’s obvious WGA accepted a bad deal to end the fighting while SAG leadership is actually fighting for actors not just the huge stars. Many of you are only thinking about release dates being shifted and telling them to just accept anything. The sooner SAG/AFTRA gives in without getting what they demand the worst the deal will be for underpaid actors. AMPTP have been playing dirty for too long with actors.
  18. Im in Bogota, bought tickets for tomorrow show at my favorite theater and the first show was sold out so I had to go to the second which barely had any seats left. Very shocking for this in a South American country! But Taylor is likely going to do Barbie numbers with this! excited for my showing tonight!
  19. Taylor film will def have the most ROI based on her cut and the budget!
  20. I think Beyoncé might do at least $50 million during the entire run. Nowhere near Taylor gross!
