  1. Gotta quote myself, didnt realize its already out in the UK. Biggest first day opening of all time for a music biopic, grossed higher than Bohemian Rhapsody day 1 in the UK.
  2. I think a large part of it is that Bob Marley is actually huge in Latin America, he was a huge influence on reggaeton music. TCP was mainly targeted towards African Americans while Bob Marley can reach wider audiences. I think this film is going to be huge in the UK too because of the Jamaican population there,
  3. Not trying to be funny but why is there a spoiler thread? I think we all know how it ends lol
  4. Asa a Zendaya fan I'll be watching it and I didnt say the majority of the reviews will be negative but this seems like a either love it or hate it.
  5. This is going to sound silly but I think once Zendaya and Timmy start promoting, it box office numbers will be a lot higher. These numbers currently are based off just the Dune fanbase, but Zendaya and Timmy are media darlings with huge fan bases and I'm sure the publicity of this will be amazing.
  6. Yeah I live in Miami and we had some on Eventbrite but they were like $50 per ticket for TCP
  7. I’d love that but Lily Gladstone pretty much had it sealed way before the movie was ever screened. It’s odd how some films are guaranteed to get wins way before anyone has ever screened it.
  8. That would be a smart movie with Amber Heard in the movie. They lost a lot on The Flash trying to promote a film where the man actor is in a host of scandals including grooming minors.
  9. I was just asking because some people in the previous weekend thread were suggesting $700 million WW comparing it to Jumanji 2, Puss in Boots 2 and The Greatest Showman. Basically regarding the WOM and saying it will have staying power because of kids getting out of school. That’s why I was asking. Didn’t know how the data currently is
  10. Same impact though. As an African American people are going in droves to see The Color Purple, full families, black churches, black sororities. The problem is that The Color Purple isn’t getting anywhere near as many screens as Black Panther. Here in South Florida, most Color Purple screenings are sold out but Wonka and Aquaman have double the screens on Christmas Day, yet most screenings for Wonka and Aquaman are empty. As me and someone else from South Florida said in last weekend’s Wonka thread, Wonka simply isn’t translating well here. TCP has potential if more screens are added after Warner sees where the demand is.
  11. I agree that’s a better example with the exception that Puss in Boots 2 had stellar reviews, GG and Oscar nominations and it mainly suffered the first fews weeks because it was competing at the same time that Avatar TWOW. This December has been pretty slow overall
  12. People keep forgetting that the soundtrack for The Greatest Showman saved the movie. It was the best selling album worldwide of 2017. Most of these non musicals without a popular soundtrack can’t really be compared to The Greatest Showman
  13. Her issue isn’t Uncle Sam or splitting costs with her team, she’s done many interviews about this, her main issue is that black actresses don’t make the same amount as their white counterparts and despite being an Emmy and Oscar nominee she still has to audition, for example she had to audition and fight for this role in The Color Purple. Most of her white counterparts get offered roles, they dont have to stay on the audition circuit. She also said she had to fight for Danielle and Fantasia’s team to ask for a fair amount from the studio.
  14. She’s carried so many hit films at the box office, Oscar, Emmy nominated and it’s gotten her nowhere. Very sad In the segment she also spoke about frustration in how studios say black films don’t translate overseas so they don’t even bother to market there
  15. Beyoncé tour made around $500 million off around 50 dates while Taylor grossed close to a billion off the same amount of dates.
