Here be weekend numbers. SLOP opened to 140.1M lc, biggest opening for an original animated movie, beating IO's 131.2M lc. It should be able to reach 350M with ease, even more if it breaks the animated curse! In the meantime, it totally annihilated Dory and Scrat, both with drops over 70%
FD will be lucky to reach MU figures. So far this has been a very disappointing summer in terms of big hits.
dory's legs here is humiliating.............sad~

Dory : For the very first time a Pixar movie will be bigger in Brazil than in Mexico! Amazing!
what is the total for brazil now? japan has dory with $31m, and this is not even including its amazing monday (1/8), which increase 73% in admission from past monday

Yeah, that should be New year Holiday.
when is the obon holiday start this year? 11/8 is the public holiday for obon is it? that mean we have 4 days weekend next week!

In Japan:
Dory: 3-week total reached 3.25B yen after 1.15B weekly gross
Nemo:3-week total reached 3.59B yen after 1.10B weekly gross, final total 11B
Nemowas super strong during Obon Holiday, so Dory should still make 8B yen even it gets hit hard by Jungle Book in 10 days.
was nemo release during summer? i thought it was released year-end?

Dory is doing very well for discount day, more than 70% increase from last week, and even top Shin Godzilla and one piece

Germany:
Toy Story 2: $12m vs Toy Story 3: $17m
Monsters Inc.: $14m vs MU: $13m
Finding Nemo: $53m vs ????
i do not know if it will be able to reach the original amount, but it seems that Nemo is in a different league than Toy Story or Monsters in Germany.
what making me worry more is that pixar's films tend to make lesser in germany compared to france, examined by the past data.

but what i afraid is, germany's gross somewhat is highly correlated to france, look at the past figure, two markets seem tends to affect each others......Given the dory's performance in france, I'm started to worry.......

Having passed the $800m mark at the global box office on Thursday [July 28], Finding Dory now stands at $830.5m worldwide to make it the fifth highest grossing film of the year to date.
Overseas, Pixar’s latest added $23.6m from its 46 territories for $361.5m to date. The bulk of its weekend haul came from an estimated $10.8m chart-topping bow in the UK, the second biggest opening Fri-Sun tally for Pixar in the market.
In Japan, Finding Dory remained the leading overseas release for the third consecutive weekend with a drop of only 6% and a local tally of $30.9m. Its next major opening comes in Italy on Sept 15.

Adjusted for inflation, Finding Nemo crosses $1.1B WW.
well, that's one, but nobody cares adjusted inflation figure outside the world of box office forum, most of them will only see nominal term

Given how big the budget of ST is, $60m is somewhat not enough, even we add in the international revenue, the result is still not really impressive~
I thought there would be some sci-fi demand or people get thirsty for sci-fi as marketplace now are full with talking animal and superhero~ -

Well, a lot of those movies were made when passing $1 billion was a rare occurrence.
I don't think you can blame China, considering that Toy Story 3, Frozen and Minions got past that mark without China.
The movies you've mentioned, 2 of them were sequel/prequel, I'm referring it to original film~

good holds but next friday another big local film seem to open and will probably take away most of the screens. Can it still get to 300m yuan?
how is that next-friday big local films pre-sales performance?

the number is not encouraging as ST has $285m(production+marketing) cost........I thought some sci-fi demand would be available as marketplace now are full of animation and superhero films

JAPAN BOX OFFICE | Demon Slayer breaks all time record for OW
in International Box Office
Posted
well, after increase for over 70% yesterday from previous week, dory seem to have another great day, tuesday's gross is about even(+1%) from last week's tuesday, which had increase for 60%. The others pics drop 30% to 40% from previous week on tuesday except dory as mentioned.
Dory actually top Godzilla and one-piece for monday and tuesday, and tomorrow is woman's day which could turn to be another great day for dory as it feature female character at centre.
While godzilla and one piece still doing great business, godzilla seem break ¥1b Yen today and the overall market seem decent for now.
