I absolutely understand and agree with everything the author is saying; I think this is the reason why it deserved to come just shy of that Fresh rating, because the filmmakers could have said what they needed to say in a way that didn't cause an outrage.

These aren't the villains of the story taking advantage of other characters' allergies. These are the heroes. But the thing is, that's not something kids should think heroes do.

Yeah because I'm sure Boss Baby and Ferdinand DESERVED to be nominated over Lego Batman, Lego Ninjago, Captain Underpants, Mary and the Witch's Flower, and pretty much all of the foreign releases that were considered for the award this year.

    but why

Well, I guess it could go to Katherine Heigl instead...

I've never seen the Fifty Shades films (and do not desire to watch them ever), so the tepid quality of the franchise leads me to believe that the performances are as deplorable as the direction and writing and morals.

I forgot the Razzies existed until I peered into this thread again. So it's been nominated for Worst Picture, Worst Director, Worst Actress, and Worst Supporting Actress?

Lol, everyone is taking a shit on this film. Imagine if they had a "clean sweep" for all of these awards.

I'm just hoping The Emoji Movie wins Worst Picture. And I know for sure Jennifer Lawrence is undeserving of Worst Actress; I'd rather see that be given to either Dakota Johnson or Tyler Perry.

For those who may have missed it....Columbus also wrote Gremlins. (Seriously though, I'd be shocked if most of you haven't seen it since it's instantly recognizable.) This could be an interesting project to keep our eyes on.

You're right here; Columbus has experience displaying seemingly tense moments, even those including monsters, in a lighthearted, campy way that is accessible to all ages. I think he is capable of making this into a surprisingly decent film.

Chris Columbus, of all people, is attached to direct, write, and produce.

I think Gil Kenan would've been a better choice, but Chris Columbus really has dealt with playful suspense before (Home Alone; first two Harry Potter films). I no longer think this has a chance at being great, but I think Columbus can at least allow for a serviceable film.

The hiring of Columbus absolutely reveals the tone they are going for: a playful, lighthearted tone, which I think will be more accessible to the general audience then something more serious.

  7. Younger Voter #1: "I have Lady Bird and Shape of Water at the top and Three Billboards and Get Out at the bottom."

Younger Voter #2: "Well I have Get Out and Lady Bird at the top and Three Billboards and Shape of Water at the bottom."

Younger Voter #3: "Well I have Three Billboards and Shape of Water at the top and Get Out and Lady Bird at the bottom."

Steak-and-Potatoes Voters: "All of us are pretty consistent, voting for the usual period pieces like Darkest Hour and Dunkirk. Sorry, hipsters."

This race is going to be up in the air, with the winner hotly debated, until the envelope opens...

  8. I need to apologize for my initial reaction to this film's announcement after watching the trailer.

This looks to be a film with truly inspired craft elements in it. This looks to be a great Christian film, a much better film than most recent Pure Flix films such as God's Not Dead. So I no longer believe this was a film made just for money. I see the Godly artistic passion in this trailer that I want to see in faith-based films. This just shot way up on my radar.

    How do I vote?

For best picture, you make a preferential ranking (your most favorite being #1, your least favorite being #10, and so on, and so forth), and for all of the other categories, you choose a winner and a runner-up. Then send that whole ballot to both @The Shape of Pasta and @The Mad Panda through private messaging. The nominations can be found on the first page of this thread.

  10. I haven't read the article at this time. But I do have an idea on why there have not been any Fifty Shades copycats in the film industry yet, and probably will not ever be:

    1) The 'popular book series' excuse.

The book series was a massive success, so the sexual scenes in the films didn't take away from people's desire to see it. If a copycat attempted to display the same overt sexualization in a film that does not have the 'popular book' safeguard, it would be much easier to thumb it down for the general audience. Because I have the hope in other people that the majority of them did not cause the first film's massive success in order to satisfy their own personal lust. Not everyone in America who likes romantic filmmaking is interested in imagery that cuts it very close in regards to bring pornographic, and I trust that their disinterest in such content would prevent a rip-off from gaining such traction.

    2) Filmmakers have higher standards.

The Fifty Shades franchise is something with very little scope and very little artistic vision. It is very, very tough to imagine that filmmakers would want to undertake a film that shares Fifty Shades' specific 'subgenre' any time soon, because it's not something that actually merits it. Filmmakers don't want to stoop low and make things easy by doing what the Fifty Shades filmmakers did. And I'm sure producers are looking to make projects that are a little more grandiose and a little more respectable.

    3) Audiences would automatically deem it a ripoff.

Moviegoers aren't idiots. If a film or film series comes along and proves itself to be very similar to Fifty Shades, people will notice, and the negative stigma that's resulted in a decrease of the franchise's film profits over time will carry over.

    This decade

    Musical Hits

LLL, Les Mis, TGS, Frozen, BATB, Into the Woods, Moana, Tangled, Rio, Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, Pitch Perfect, Rio 2, Straight Outta Compton, Pitch Perfect 2, Sing, Trolls, Coco, Pitch Perfect 3

    Borderline

Happy Feet 2, Footloose, The Muppets, Begin Again, Annie, The Book of Life, Get on Up, The Last 5 Years, Sing Street, Alvin 4

    Musical Misses

Burlesque, Winnie the Pooh, Country Strong, Rock of Ages, Joyful Noise, Sparkle, Black Nativity, Jersey Boys, Muppets Most Wanted, Jem and the Holograms, All Eyez On Me

To me, it feels like musicals are like most genre's in which the films really need to feel accessible to general audiences to really shine through. I think they also need to feel either big, or kid-friendly.

But with the amount of musicals that have done just fine this decade, calling the genre a dead genre doesn't really work in my opinion. I don't think The Greatest Showman is a fluke at all, especially because of the musical successes that came before it.

    Elderly people basically are teenagers.

I agree with this. Humans nowadays only live to be up to 100 most times, and I think that is a very short amount of time in the span of eternity. That's why I think we are young, even when we are aging.

Next week my closest theatre is having showtimes for classic movies such as 'The Godfather' and 'Silence of the Lambs'. I am planing to go on Monday for 'Silence of the Lambs', 'The Godfather' on Tuesday and 'Black Panther' on Wednesday, perfect week.

Yeah, I wouldn't count out the possibility that the transition from The Godfather and Silence of the Lambs to Black Panther actually feels seamless in terms of quality filmmaking.
