He was in three best picture nominees this year alone. Impressive. He's a great actor, so I'm happy to see him having some success, his performance in A Serious Man is seriously underrated.
I only saw Stuhlbarg in The Shape of Water as of this writing, but I have to say, he was great in The Shape of Water.

Wind River was a very good film throughout, and I am very happy that it made the list. A great modern western to join the likes of Hell or High Water and Brokeback Mountain as classics in the blooming subgenre.

I literally just saw The Florida Project at my university's theater hours ago. Sean Baker made a gripping, haunting film, and if I had been able to see it sooner, I would have included it very high on my list in a heartbeat. I wholeheartedly recommend that film to anyone who is even remotely interested in its premise.

Ooh, The Post made it, too!
There's still some movies I still need to see, apparently.

Well, Phantom Thread got in despite what is likely to be low viewership. A very exciting placement that I am more than happy to see realized even if I have yet to see the film.

I see the correlation. All of these film (#161-#177) must have only gotten one very small vote and somehow tied with each other; they're all in alphabetical order, too. That explains why Wilson takes 'last place'.

Haven't seen Paddington 2 yet. The film may have stolen the spot of a smaller undeniably-2017 film, but a good film is a good film. If it's good enough to gain the fandom necessary to put it on this list despite questionable eligibility, then I guess I better put it as a bigger priority on my film radar.

Maybe it's because I don't watch much horror thrillers (even if I didn't find this particular one all that scary), I saw the influence of a care for the filmmaking craft. James McAvoy stands out in an excellent cast, and the plot is very interesting throughout. The cinematography in particular also had some stellar moments. I felt a wide range of emotions watching this film. Very good thriller.

John Wick: Chapter 2 is something special. I personally believe that the entry has put the trilogy in a place that will end up defining it as something deeper than the usual action franchise. It is a very well-made action thriller, and I remember being invested in the film during both of the times I watched it.

I'll be honest; run-of-the-mill action blockbusters like the Marvel films are falling out of taste with me. But that's not to say Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 doesn't have merit. The film is well acted, consistently quirky, and is a technical achievement in quite a few regards, most notably makeup and visual effects (in my opinion). I'd say it's deserving of #24.

Girls Trip made it?
Didn't think it was targeting enough people on here
That shows the overall strength of the film! I have to say, I underestimated it too.

The films that aren't fully guaranteed but still have a small chance nonetheless that I would like to see on the list are The Lost City of Z and Columbus specifically. But this was such a good year that I'd be hard-pressed to have an angry reaction to any submission or omission.

The Florida Project
UNCW Lumina Theater, about 50% full
A lot of laughs, and a lot of reactions. That ending elicited a lot of reactions like "WHAT THE?!?!" and "Is that really how it ends?!"
Great film though. Definitely worth a look.

after the success of Jumanji I am sure this will get made
Ooh, that's a good point...

Dunkirk, in my opinion, was absolutely stellar. One of two films in 2017 that affected me so much I felt the need to pray to God during the rolling of the credits. It ties Inception for me in regards to 'favorite Nolan film'. An absolute masterwork that is told seamlessly and with great care.

The Greatest Showman was packed when I saw it with my family, and I live in Wilmington, NC, a coastal town.

Amazing how only ten years ago, her biggest claim to fame was a guest starring role as the villain on a Disney Channel show.
THAT REALLY WAS HER!!!!

underrated masterpieces (talking about BO)
I feel like a solid majority of the true masterpieces go underrated, at least for a time.

Star Wars: Return of the Jedi v. Batman (1989)
24 hours to vote again. The final vote will be discounted in the event of another tie.
Batman (1989) gets a vote from me.

I'm really not surprised at all that a film like this would move from a hectic May to a June that is much more mellow by comparison. Now its main competition is not a competing comedy (Life of the Party), but a survival thriller (Adrift), so it may make a little more than it would've.

"There lives are changed when their monthly book club reads Fifty Shades of Grey."
The thought of a book like that influencing people's lives is scary to me...

This has no chance of being good simply due to the fact Nintendo is so protective of their properties they definitely won't allow anything interesting to happen in the movie. It will be just so vanilla family friendly snore fest incoming.
Then again. Shiver Miyamoto himself is a producer; if the filmmakers want to do something interesting, they can approach him directly to get approval. And Miyamoto isn't afraid of doing interesting things as a game developer. So things may just turn out okay with him as a producer, because I'd be hardpressed to find anyone on Earth that knows Mario better than him.

I don't really plan on seeing It because I'm not terribly fond of that type of horror. But a good film is a good film, and I'm happy to see a good film like that make the list.
